If you lived in a multifamily apartment and shared the washers and dryers with the other tenants; would you ask the landlord or feel the need to mention your use of cloth diapers with the landlord?

In our old apartment, I know my landlord got very queasy at the thought of cloth diapers. Just wondering if I need to say anything before we move to our next place before the baby is born.

I was a landlord of a two family home where we shared the washer and dryer with the tenants. No, I wouldn't have expected them to let me know ahead of time that they were using cloth diapers or ask if it was OK. (And this was before I had kids, but I still wouldn't have expected to be told that!)

I haven't said anything to my landlords about it, and I'm on my third CD'd kid while living here. I figure that if they don't need to hear about DH's hash marked boxers, they don't need to hear about diapers!

Why is it any of their business, as long as you're the one washing the diapers?

I would never think to mention it to anyone - after all it's just laundry !

FWIW - I've lived in an apartment for 3 of my almost 4-years of cloth diapering.

Canadian mom to Boo (Aug '02), Bug (Aug '04) and Bear (Dec '06).

Were now blessed to be in an apartment with W/D hook ups but didn't for a little over the first 6 months in our first place each "quad" had its own assigned laundry faciliality (2 washers and two dryers) I never said anything plus our LL was a jerk anyways. We also purchased a wonder wash to help keep costs down. No one complained.

Wife to DH since August 01 mom to a bubbly girl October 2002 and our newest gal March 2010

Our current apartment as well as the townhouse we are hoping to move into have a washer/dryer provided in the unit. It's never even occurred to me to let the landlord know we cloth diaper. It's just laundry. As long as the washer is working properly it's not like poop or anything is left behind in the machine. I know someone who cds who doesn't have a w/d in her apartment and so uses the shared machines and I doubt she's ever mentioned it either.

I have never mentioned it either and I live in an apartment with a shared laundry room. I heard from one of my neighbors that about 5 or so years ago a note went out telling the tenants that they couldn't wash cloth diapers in the laundry rooms but nobody has said boo to me about doing it and I have been doing it three months. Nobody in an "official capacity" has said anything too me and the neighbor that told me about it is a busy body who thought that rule was really stupid. She is a 65 year old lady who cd'd her kids. She loves looking at Belle's little diapers and is amazed how far cloth has come!
