I'm using a double stuffed medium sized HH (solid colour), with a BSWW over top and usually we're OK but sometimes we get wet PJ bottoms. On the nights that I use an FB petite instead of the HH, we almost always get leaks, so I have been putting an aristocrat over the whole thing and that works well. DS is a skinny 16 mo old and likes to sleep on his side. . . leaking is always from the leg opening. He's on the boob 4-6 times between 9pm and 8am.

Tonight I also have a thin prefold outside of the HH but inside of the BSWW without the aristocrat, just to try it out.

Any tips for something less bulky and more consistently successful?

TIA

Have you tried flannel or hemp? Both are fairly trim and dense and absorb well.

Thanks. I use microfiber as well as hemp inserts. Yes, I love hemp - I use hemp fitteds during the day. I've heard flannel is not as absorbant as hemp or micro, so I haven't tried. . . .

For the first six months of my son's life, I referred to flannel prefolds as "the nighttime diapers." They were (and are) sufficiently absorbant for us.

Have you tried just a prefold? Or a prefold, hemp as doubler and then the Aristocrats? It sounds like these are the absorbant elements that are working for you, but with the HH and the BSWW it's making it very bulky. Prefolds are the only thing absorbant enough to get us through the night.

Thanks. Hmmm, sounds like prefolds and wool are the way to go? Do you use a fleece liner? I tried using a hemp fitted (plus hemp doublers) once and while it didn't leak, DS's skin was pretty pink in the morning from hours of contact with pee! I would just do the fitted at night, but since the fleece liners aren't the same size and shape as the fitted, it would still leave parts of skin exposed. . . .

We used a TRIPLE stuffed (joey bunz) HH and that worked well for us.

have you tried just changing him once when he wakes to nurse? if he is only leaking a little, that should pretty much take care of it.

We used triple-stuffed FB for DD which worked pretty well.

DS has chubbier legs (although he's only 4 months.) With him (very heavy wetter) we use a Happy Hempy fitted with the regular hemp insert and the additional "stuffie" or whatever it's called. Then we cover that with a fleece BWWW. It is enormous, but we have never ever had even a tiny leak with it.

Yeah, I *could* but would like to avoid if possible. Sometimes when he wakes up around midnight, I change him because he's already leaked through, not because the inserts are saturated, but because of sleeping on his side. I'm wondering if Bummi's Super Brites would be better for side sleeping babes?

I'm considering trying a Happy Hempy as well. I think they're pretty popular for night time.

Thanks for the advice, everyone!
