So I know several of us were thinking about using the recipe for homemade laundry soap on our diapers but were nervous about it.
I have been using it for 3wks now. I love it. It seems to be getting the prefolds cleaner and better smelling than the Purex F&C that I had been using.
Also the diapers seem to be coming out with less staining, and after line drying they aren't as crunchy as when using the commercial detergent. That may be because I started using vinegar in the rinse but I like the way they come out.
Also I have not noticed any kind of stink issue or, leaking. That is what I was most afaid of. With the Purex, I would have the amonia smell in the night time diaper, and the diaper pail would get stinky quite quickly. That hasn't been happening.

I just wanted to post how it was working out for me since there were several who were wondering how it would work. I don't know how it would work on the more expensive diapers, I use prefolds exclusivly.

Thanks for letting me know! I was one of the people who were wondering about this. I'm glad it's working out for you.

Is is this recipe?

I have used this one for years now on Green Earth prefolds and all of our clothes for that matter. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. And it's CHEAP!

I was able to find Fels-Naptha bars at the hardwear store, and also our grocery store is now carrying it.
For the Washing Soda, the only place local I could find it was at the grocery store. (some have found it at target and walmart.)
You can go to Arm&Hammer.com and find a store near you that sells it, and there is also a website called soapsgonebuy.com where you can buy all the supplies you would need to make the soap.

I couldn't find Fels Naptha for the longest time, so I tried one called ZOTE which is made in Mexico and I LOVE IT. I like it much better than the batch that I made with Fels.

Zote rocks too. We used to use it when I was a kid and we lived in Mexico. Our local grocery stores carry borax and washing soda in the laundry isle. They used to carry Fels too, but my nearest store discontinued it. You might try to put in a product request at the customer service desk at your store. Hopefully they will accomodate you. If not, I know you can purchase it online....but who want's to pay shipping unless it's absolutely necessary.
