Hi everyone.
Some of you may know me from other parts of MDC, I rarely am in the diapering area.
Well, for those of you who have been following Charlie's story, our situation comes as no surprise.

My son Charlie has had a strange rash since he was born. It was commonly (mis)diagnosed as eczema... and no one could help him. Numerous immunologists, allergists, dermatologists... no one could figure out what was truly wrong with him.
About three weeks ago, my partner was hospitalized with severe bacterial pneumonia. Very scary as it spread SO quickly and she got very sick very fast. She was home after four days, and we hoped we would be able to stay on top of the bills, having lost time off work for both of us and having her medical bills.
Then Charlie got sicker. The skin on his face started sloughing off, then his legs and elbows. We had him hospitalized at All Children's and saw every specialist around. Hematology, oncology (they thought he had leukemia, and we lived with that thought for two days until they ruled it out), immunology, infectious disease, hematology, the burn team, allergy, dermatology... everyone saw him. For four days we were told that no one could figure it out. He was on heavy duty IV antibiotics for a staph infection, as well as sedatives for the pain and itching. We very much thought we might not bring our baby home.
After four days, he was clearing up and we took him home. Still on steroids and a month of heavy duty abx, but he is home. He is suspected of having a very rare and serious immune deficiency, which will greatly alter our lives. He also has multiple allergies.
But, he was doing better. Then my partner lost her job due to lack of funding. The nail in the coffin it seemed.

Add to this the fact that Charlie has outgrown his diapers and we had no money to order more. A friend of mine, not even a friend really, just someone who reads my blog regularly, generously offered to buy him some diapers. I emailed Karen and let her know that I would be placing the order but my friend would be paying for it. Noticing my order was VERY different from past orders (PUL covers, cheaper diapers) she asked why I was ordering the synthetics (she knew about Charlie's skin issues, and I have previously used cotton and wool almost exclusively, with a few pocket diapers here and there and some PUL covers at times) and I told her that, as much as I loved wool, right now we had to make due with PUL because of finances.
She then told me that she would take care of it, and send me what I needed to get started on his next size with cotton and wool.

Today, she emailed me the order receipt.

She sent me several wool covers, nylon covers (nylon doesn't bother him like PUL), organic cotton fitteds, prefolds, pins, snappies, liners, doublers... the list goes on. A great deal of things. All from the goodness of her heart. And entire stash of organic cotton diapers and wool covers. At no charge.

I am still in awe. And profoundly grateful to this woman who barely knows us. I shop from her often (she is my only supplier) and frequently send her pictures of charlie and updates (she asks about his health), but beyond that, she doesn't know me from Adam. And she still send him so many wonderful things. Things I couldn't have bought him even in the best of times, because of the sheer expense of some of these covers.

I always tell people to order from her, but today I have an even greater reason. Now I know more the person behind the business. And I am amazed by her generosity and compassion and genuine concern for Charlie's health.

Anyway... I'm rambling. But I thought that many of you would appreciate hearing it. And I am definitely a GMD customer for life.
