Over the past couple of years the Diapering board has grown by leaps and bounds and is now one of our most active forums at MDC. We are grateful to all the members who make the board a supportive and informative place to share and care about diapering.

With growth comes change and we have found it necessary to review some issues of concern that have arisen in the Diapering board and set some policies to address these issues specifically for this board. We hope that this will help to preserve the friendly and comfortable atmosphere that we try to uphold.

General posting etiquette. The Diapering board is first and foremost a place of support and encouragement for and information about diapering. So, there will naturally be discussion about diapers – “What's good?”, “What should I buy?”, “Is x better than y?” and so on. A member's response to such discussion should be within the realm of their personal experiences with a specific ‘product’, and would involve sharing information for the benefit of the member requesting the information and the entire community. Therefore responses should be a sharing of that product knowledge and not a promotion or advertisement for the benefit of one's business or that of another.

Replies such as "PM me" or "I PMed you" in response to discussion questions are not appropriate and can result in the removal of PM privileges. If you do not have appropriate experience and advice to share directly in the discussion thread please refrain from posting a reply for off board purposes. Certainly a member can PM another member in response to a thread, but posting so is unnecessary. Likewise, contacting an individual by PM to privately offer product information can be considered soliciting if the information was not directly requested by that member in the discussion. We encourage members who receive such uninvited solicitations to report the member who contacts them so that we may take action to prevent such abuse of the board features.

In addition to this the following are policies that will be applied specifically to the Diapering board.

1. Reviews of products. Discussion about products should be a focus on individual experiences with the product itself. While WAHMs that make or sell the product(s) are welcome to share their personal experiences they should refrain from comments for the promotion of their business, giving helpful information only.

Diaper Selling WAHMs: A WAHM that personally sells a product may post to a thread discussing her own product(s) to correct misinformation about her product. However, a WAHM cannot post to resolve a customer service issue or to discuss a member's recent purchase from their store or business transactions. With the opening of our Diaper Review Forum, we no longer host reviews of a WAHM's person, character or business practices in the Discussion Forum. If a thread of this nature appears it will be pulled by the moderator. The WAHM should contact the poster off board for any type of explanation or customer service issues that extend beyond simple product support and should be courteous and professional in doing so with intention to resolve the issue, not ever to rebuke the member.

2. Reviews of personal customer service issues with WAHM businesses. Discussions along this line, whether positive or negative, are not permitted on the Diapering Forum and will be removed if found. We now offer two outlets for this type of review in our Diapering Resource Sticky and also, in our Diaper Review Forum We expect those resources to be utilized for the benefit of our members for their review and feedback needs, selecting whom they do business with and in sharing their WAHM experiences with others.

3. Posting in search of a product. If a member is seeking a particular product their post should be a straightforward "I am looking for ______” or “Can anyone tell me where I can find _______”. And can be followed by something like “Anyone who sells this product feel free to PM/email me." WAHMs cannot post to solicit sales for their own business, but when asked outright on the thread, can PM the originator of the thread. However, non-solicitous recommendations can be made by WAHMs and non-WAHMs alike in response to the original post for the benefit of the community.

4. Posting of informational links in reply to a question but which takes the reader to the poster's business site. Such posts are generally not permitted. The poster should rather post the actual information she wishes to share with a simple cut and paste, making it clear that she is the copyright owner of what she is posting. However, a member who has no personal connection to the site may post a link to share information. The same applies for links to images as well, please use the 'http://' vb code button above the posting box to post hyperlinks to avoid the direct URL of one's business applied within a post.[/b]

5. Usernames. We will no longer be permitting usernames that are business or product names and will be asking for a change of username for those who are currently using such names. This change – if done through the board administrator – will not affect your post count. This will be applied board-wide to all members. If a member would like to advertise their business, they need to refer to MDC’s signature advertisement opportunities which now includes brief advertising text along with the business name and hyperlink. In addition, those that invest in signature advertising will also be allotted their own business thread in our new subforum, The Daily Diaper, to advertise their business.

5. Links for charity fundraisers. Users who have paid for signature advertising may place links to their own charity auctions in their signatures provided that they stay within the 2 line maximum limit. A user who does not have signature advertising but would like to promote their own charity auction may request permission to advertise in their signature by PMing Cynthia Mosher or emailing [email protected].
------------------------------

A ‘Signature Advertising Package’ includes:

• A hyperlinked business name or URL in signature line.
• Advertising text in the signature line (up to a two line maximum, no larger than default size font of MDC)
• A thread in The Daily Diaper

* Eligibility for free bulk back issues for you to distribute as gifts and discounted Mothering subscriptions to sell to friends and customers at a profit for you.

------------------------------
Administrative Note: We will be reviewing the forums as related to these Rules and Guidelines. If after a period of time, we see a need to make changes to assist the forum’s operation, we will do so then. As always, any and all input is welcome via PM to your board moderators or the board administrator.

There have been a few charity fundraiser threads that have come up recently and we feel there is a need to specifically address MDC's position on charity auctions/fundraisers and to point out a clarification that has been made in the User Guidelines.

The current guideline states:
Quote:
In addition to that guideline, threads started for charity fundraisers will be removed as they are found.

Again, we would like to reiterate that this is not because we do not care or are not sympathetic to the mothers and families facing these times, but simply because fundraising or giving of any nature posted on the boards must meet MDC criteria, part of which is that anyone in need is entitled to receive. We cannot ensure that everyone who is entitled to receive will do so, therefore we cannot allow posts of this nature.

WAHMs that are participating in charity fundraisers and have purchased signature advertising may include links to their auctions or a page set up for the fundraiser in their signature, provided it is within the 2 line limit. A user who does not have signature advertising but would like to promote their own charity auction may request permission to advertise in their signature by PMing Cynthia Mosher, the board administrator or emailing [email protected].

Today we have closed and removed two recent threads that are discussing customer service issues. There may be more and they will be closed and removed as well

Our guidelines clearly state:
Quote:
2. Reviews of personal customer service issues with WAHM businesses. Discussions along this line, whether positive or negative, are not permitted on the Diapering Forum and will be removed if found. We now offer two outlets for this type of review in our FAQs and Resources Sticky and also, in our WAHM Diaper Review Forum We expect those resources to be utilized for the benefit of our members for their review and feedback needs, selecting whom they do business with and in sharing their WAHM experiences with others.
Please do not post issues of any sort that you have with a business or WAHM to the Diapering forum. We simply do not host such threads, even if identities are not revealed. Any threads posted about customer service issues will be closed and the poster(s) issued a warning.

If you have any concern in this regard you can address it to me personally and privately by PM or email [email protected]

Recently there has been an increase in the number of off topic posts in Diapering where it is fairly obvious that the OP is aware that the post belongs in another forum yet still chooses to post in Diapering. Mothering Dot Commune is a community and Diapering is a forum within the community. We realize that many Diapering posters wish to remain exclusive to Diapering or to Diapering and the Trading Post. We realize that we cannot force users to participate in other forums. However, the repeated off topic postings congest an already fast moving forum and cause an unnecessary burden on the moderators who have to move them to the appropriate board and communicate with members over the moves.

From this point forward off topic threads may be deleted as they are found at the moderator's discretion and the OP will be issued a moderator's alert. Subsequent off topic postings by the same user will be forwarded to the MDC Administrator for appropriate action. This will include threads that try to incorporate a small bit of Diapering to keep it on the board such as:

"This is my 1,000th post! What diaper should I buy to celebrate?"

"Today was Billy-Joe's first birthday. We had a party at Chuck E Cheese. Oh and he was wearing Fuzzy Bums all day long!"

If y'all would like to discuss off topic things amongst yourselves, please feel free to revive the Diapering Mamas tribe thread in Finding Your Tribe.

If you have any questions please feel free to address them to me, Megan and/or Cynthia Mosher via private messaging.

There have recently been a lot of threads posted that show links to, or discuss, baby and toddler clothing items, with our without matching pants or shorts. Examples include:

"Wow look at WAHM's gorgeous sets. I love the work she put into the whale applique on the shirt. Such detail!"

"Look at my toddler in these cute, hand-dyed knitted overalls by WAHM!"

Please keep in mind that unless the main emphasis of the discussion is on a diaper or diaper cover, the item would be more appropriate in another forum.

If such posts are seen they will be moved and the user will be issued an alert. Thank you.

Per our policy on WAHM issues, we also will not host discussions concering individual Trading Post issues, whether or not the trade being discussed reveals names or not. Any such threads will be removed immediately and the user will be issued an alert.

We have had several threads posted about WAHM made clothing lately, some of which are fine here in Diapering. Others belong in the Life with a Babe or Toddlers forum and are moved as appropriate.

Thread topics that are a discussion of WAHM clothing may be posted to Diapering if the discussion is in relation to their use with diapers. For example:
The effectiveness or fit of wahm made wool pants as diaper covers

Mom of a 7 yr old, 4 yr old, and 1 yr old. Wow. How did that happen?

We have had problems lately with the number of threads that have been misposted to Diapering Activism so the subforum listing has been removed. The forum is still accessable through the following link, which will also be placed in Diapering Resources.
