My husband read about EC when we were pregnant, awesome! Started with pottties when DD was 7 mo, but encouraged her to go during diaper changes from the get go. We both work and do daycare, so we use disposables (used to do some cloth at home, but we are making lots of catches now, and she is more comfy in the disposables now that she is walking - sometimes get one diaper to last 12-18hours).  Started with BB little potty, moved up to the potty chair, and started with the toilet seat this month.  This week she just started walking over to the baby gate and asking to go up stairs to pee - on occasion!!! so excited!!!  She does all her poops on the potty or toilet now - 1-2 per day, in morning or before bed (except when sick with daycare bugs).  At school they do try the toilet trainer over the toddler sized toilet, but she rarely goes for them (I've watched her on the webcam, and I have seen her walk over to the toilet room after nap but they missed her cue while wrangling 9 other kiddies).

DD is 15 mo now and we are flying from Philly to Arizona for Christmas. 5-6 hour flight time, mid-day flights (so poops should not be an issue), so hopefully we can keep her awake all morning and she will nurse and nap for most of each flight.  She will need to pee while on the plane, and I'm okay if she goes in her diaper, but would like to try the toilet.  My goal is to make those trips to the airplane potty as easy as possible, and wanted to brainstorm ideas and tips.  We will also be using the public restroom in the airports.  I'll end up doing the pottying and DH will stay with the bags.

1) Now I have never used an airplane bathroom myself (always go before and after) but have heard the changing tables are a joke.  DD is small, 19lbs, and in size 3 pampers (16-28lbs).  They don't make pull-ups until size 4 (16-34lbs - that is a huge weight range!) Still, I'm thinking of trying these before we fly, because putting on pull-ups seems easier in my mind than putting a diaper on a squirmy baby with no room on half a changing table.

2) The BBTT is said to fit on airplane toilets, so all good there.

3) Space is limited, so what else do I bring and how do I bring it for each trip to potty?

I was thinking a wet bag with the BBTT

1-2 diapers/pull-ups - but hopefully I'll be putting her back in the one she's wearing.

Of course wipes (soft pack with the hard plastic pop top I thought would be easiest).

A few chlorox wipes marked in a ziplock because public toilets - ewww! (DH said there are non-chlorox sanitizing wipes)

I can forgo the books and entertain her with songs.

anything I'm missing? and I bringing too much?

what size wet bag will acommodate all of this, and what brands are easier to carry / have the option of hanging from a hook while in stall?

any other ideas?

Thanks all!

Remember that a diaper bag won't count into your carry-on allowance.

If you've got shorter flights, the problem I had was that they didn't turn off the seat belt light the WHOLE flight.

I'd bring a potty. We brought the potty bowl on our long haul flights, and that worked out really well. When she was older and went on the toilet, we brought her there when possible (no toilets insert seat, we could just hold her onto the seat), otherwise she went on the potty in our laps. We brought some extra diaper flats (square diapers), so we could put one of them in the potty and place the potty under the seat in front of us until we could get out of our seats (we brought her car seat, but she also sat in our laps, with the baby belt on, and sometimes slept on me in the Ergo). It was great, as we didn't have to wait for a free toilet when she really needed to go. And we found it easier just changing her nappy/putting nappy back on after potty, in our seats, as there's actually more space there than in the toilets.

what did you end up doing?

I travel fairly frequently with my ECed 19mo. I just hold her to sit on the regular potty on the plane and in public restrooms and use disposible pullups (even if they are too large) for travel. Its fine. She doesn't tend to pee a whole lot when we are traveling (I think she gets kind of dehydrated). We just take all the convenient times for the potty... before its time to board the plane, after the seatbelt light goes off, when they tell you that you have a half hour or whatever left, when we get off the plane. Actually I can't think of a time she ever actually peed in a diaper while traveling except when she was 3mo, but it just makes me feel relaxed not to worry about it.

Oh and I am not to fussy about cleaning the seats. I wipe them with clean paper and don't worry about it. I know, I'm majorly unusual on this I guess but I just don't travel with wipes. As for other supplies... I bring 2 extra pullups and an extra pair of pants. I've never even used them but again, for peace of mind.
