we've recently stopped our all-day diaper back-up for our 2yr old and have put him in undies, which he loves. but now he's often having trouble peeing when he's on the toilet even when he really needs to go. this was never a problem before, i think it's the pressure of not wanting to have an accident that's making him clamp up. any suggestions for how to get him to relax??
I'm sure others with more experience will come along, but running water in the sink might help. DD1 (28 months) loves sitting on a "warm potty." We run warm/hot water on the under side of either the small potty or the toilet insert so that it is warm to sit on. She often relaxes and goes more easily.
I would just ditto PPs suggestion to run water. Also, you could try letting DS "read" a book on the potty (works for grown-ups, right?) or play with a toy.
