We just started EC with our daughter who is 3 months and a half. After one week spending long time without diapers, she hasn´t go even once in the toilet/sink/outside. She goes on us, on her little blanket...
We make the “psssss psssss” sound every time she goes, but are unable to recognize her signals (might be very subtle). Are we in the wrong track? Any help?
Thanks a lot,
FWIW I have done EC without going diaper free. If you are interested in that, read on.
I take the baby first thing in the morning, right after naps, and anytime they seem fussy/squirmy. I find that catching poos is easier than pees early on, since they are often pretty obvious about pooping. And I might miss the first little bit of a poop, but then catch the rest.
Like today. DD is 2 1/2 months old. We went out for the day as a family. DD peed in the potty before we left home. Peed once on the toilet right when we got to where we were going (an hour and a half away - her diaper was wet too, so I changed her too). Had her in the carrier for the day. I offered one other time right after nursing (she didn't go), changed her diaper, and we drove home. She did pee on the toilet again as soon as we got home.
I feel good about the catches, and the misses don't leave me with a wet lap or two older kids who don't get to do anything because we're going to the bathroom all the time. I did the same with my DS and it worked out really well. Once they are a little older and can hold it longer, then we catch even more and have more dry diapers. I also end up changing very few poopy diapers this way too.
