help me write a policy change paper
I'm taking a "globalization and impact of technology" class and I
need some immediate help figuring out an angle for my paper.

The assignment is to submit a policy and proceedure change for
any organization, giving information on the background of the
chosen organization, how the organization is affected by
globalization and the proposed changes.

I was hoping to do my paper on birth (since I'm pregnant right
now and can hardly think of anything else) and focus on ACOG
(American College of Obstetrics and Gynocology). I though they
would be an easy and likely candidate for some policy change.
The only problem is I'm having a terrible time getting started and
picking an issue.

Can any of you point me in the right direction?

Great thread! I'm interested in seeing what others suggest.

My suggestion:

ACOG has reccommended that any woman giving birth in a hospital should receive epidural pain relief as soon as she asks for it, rather than waiting until she is 4-5cm dialated.

http://www.acog.org/from_home/public...01-31-02-1.htm

The studies that link epidurals (esp. when given early in labor) & c-section births are numerous and extremely reputable. The risks of c-section birth are numerous and well documented.

From a global perspective...I don't really know what you're looking for, but you could easily compare the maternity practices of other nations to the practices of the USA and show how the rates of complications and rates of infant mortality are related.

The March of Dimes might be a good place to start:

wonderful idea. right now i'm looking at that and the overuse of ultrasound....since the class is also about the impact of technology, I thought I might be able to show how advances in ultrasound technology is determining use rather than scientific data.

thanks for the great suggestion.
