Does anyone know if texas medicaid will cover a midwife? I've heard both yes and no, and that they will only cover a certified nurse midwife.

I'm thinking of switching, and can't afford to pay out of pocket. My OB that I have been seeing is fully covered, but it just isn't working well between us, kwim?

It's my understanding that they only cover a CNM and only for a birth center or hospital birth - no home births.. although there is current legislation that is hoping to change it.
Contact some midwives in your area and they should be able to guide you to a caregiver that will accept medicaid and help you have the birth you want.

Here is what I know... They cover a midwife (CNM) as well as CPMs if your CPM is delivering you at a birth center overseen by a CNM. Does that make sense? And they do cover homebirths. If your provider is covered, your homebirth is covered. I know some local midwives who will charge a small fee if you choose a homebirth because they make their money on the Facility charge, which you wouldn't have with a homebirth. The midwife I know of, charges $600 if you want a homebirth... 100% covered if you go to the birth center. Considering how expensive it could be, I figure that isn't bad! Of course, we are in DFW, so it may be different in other parts! HTH's!
