Evening primrose is much more widely used I know, hear about it all the time. I have never heard of Borage oil use for that, but I know Borage leaf/flower tea is wonderful for bringing in the breastmilk.

Are you overdue?

Good luck!

If you ask me, your cervix will naturally be nice and ready when it's nice and ready. Why fool with mother nature?

Well, she didn't really ask did she? LOL. I mean, you don't know her history or story or anything. Maybe she has a provider who won't allow post-dates or something.

I would like to hear more about borage oil... never heard of using that.

I sort of have to fool with mother nature at this point...thanks Sheena!! I am having a HB but I have cholestasis, so...baby is supposed to come out by 38wks or there is a greater risk to baby. My MW is incredible and will help me induce naturally at home, but at some point after 38 wks we would have to think hospital induction for the baby's safety. This is all very hard on me b/c I have had/wanted such a hands off pregnancy, but today I had to go in for bloods and if they come back elevated we have to start monitoring the baby more which means ultrasounds and BPP which I have avoided this whole pregnancy, I have only used the doppler once and now I might have to have crazy exposure: It is very stressful so hubby and I are working hard!! I know that if baby's not ready nothing will happen, but I want to get my body as ready as it can get. Alot of ICP babies come early, so I can always hope! I had it with my daughter but I was induced at 38wks so I don't know when she would have come on her own. I can't afford the things that I know would help like chiro and acupuncture. I am on a homeopathic remedy to help with it the itching, so hopefully it does its job. send me HB and early baby vibes!

I recommend having your midwife massage borage oil directly onto the cervix. I have a bottle of it (collected from cutting the capsules open and sqeezing out the oil inside). I draw it up in a syringe and squirt it in while doing a vaginal exam, then massage it into the cervix. I've never tried this before 41 weeks, I find that the cervix usually remains rather posterior until close to when labor is ready to begin.

so both borage and evening primrose oil are going to provide EFAs essential fatty acids- your body can convert them to prostaglandins but I don't think that they have much prostaglandin effects on their own-castor oil probably has because of the way it acts on the body-- given that you are having trouble digesting fats and oils- either borage or EPO will be somewhat helpful because mucous membranes absorb things directly-

our gal a couple years ago with ICP had PROM at 38 weeks with a tight cervix- we waited more than 48 hrs and no labor what so ever- she ended up with a successful induction and antibiotics-- I think that the PROM occured because of the build up of bile salts -- she only half complied with the herb and diet recommendations -- JanetF has a friend who has had good success with herbs and diet and her doc could attest to it because he was following her with labs in more than one pregnancy...

what about black current seed oil? It is less expensive than borage an EPO, but works the same.
