Hi there -

I'm just curious right now, more than anything and was wondering if anyone had some insight.

At my appt last Friday, at not-quite-14weeks, my uterus was found to be measuring at 20 weeks. Doc didn't seem overly concerned, but I'm wondering if this could be indicative of a potential problem? This is my third baby, but I've never measured ahead at all with either of my other two and measuring 6 weeks ahead seems pretty significant to me. Do I need to be worried? I do have another appt scheduled in two weeks, but it's for something unrelated.

Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

Kim

Are you sure of your dates? Maybe a month further along than you think?

Have you had any ultrasound/doppler done to rule out twins?

At 14 wk I measured 18cm with twins. If you wait a few more weeks you can look for twins possibly with a fetoscope if you don't want any u/s.

Is this your first baby? If not, what number pregnancy is this?

Sometimes around 14 weeks, your uterus can be asymmetrical and measuring larger (apparently) than you "should."

This is #3 for me. I've heard third pregnancies can be weird, and honestly, everything about this pregnancy has been a whole new adventure...! I don't feel like the seasoned veteran that I am!

Also wanted to add that as long as there is nothing really *horrible* about measuring this big that I should be aware of that that is a huge weight off. I was so taken aback at my appt I didn't think to ask until I was home...

I am pregnant with number eight right now and when I was 12 weeks I was measuring 20 weeks. I went to my 16 week exam and was measuring about 21 weeks, so I am evening out a bit. I have had an ultrasound and there is only one baby in there and my doctor isn't concerned at all. She believes it is just because I have had babies before.

I know with several of my last kids I used to measure 4 weeks bigger throughout the entire pregnancy -again nothing wrong, no twins, etc. I can't recall which number child this "larger" uterus issue started with because I know it wasn't there with the first couple of kids, but recall my doctors mentioning it with later pregnancies

I wouldn't worry too much.

With me my MW had trouble finding my fundus between 14-24 weeks. If your MW/OB is using the wrong fundus location it would affect your measurement.

I was measuring way far ahead from very early on this pg, I could feel my fundus above my pubic bone from about 7 weeks and it was way up high by 12-14 weeks. I'm now 33 weeks though and its measuring spot on I think. I think my uterus had just floated upwards somehow rather than being too big.

I can definitely feel mine a little bit above my belly button. But it doesn't sound like a red flag for anything, so I'm not going to worry about it!
