Hello! I'm a new labor doula and am working on drafting my contract, adding info to the web site, and making a brochure for my new client packet.

For experienced doulas here, what do you think is important to put (or not to put) in a brochure or web site?

Do you mind sharing your contract (or important elements of it)?

Wife of one and mom of five, including my HBAC twins!

for this, Google is your friend!
search "birth doula contract" . you will find many on line. When I was working on mine, I printed of five or six that I liked, then I went through and highlighted the parts of each I liked. I took those parts and reworked them to reflect what I wanted my clients to get.

also, I think that it is good to look at several doula websites. bookmark the ones you like and you may find that several of them have similar themes that reflect how you want your website to look.
mine is www.supportingmom.com .

I do my brochures on vista print. they are easy and turn out nice. my back up doula does hers on her home computer. I think the one thing not to put into these is the cost of your services because these may change over time.

That is what we did too. I spent hours googling different midwifery/doula sites to get an idea what I liked and what I didn't. This is what ours ended up looking like:

I'd rather print smaller batches of brochures as opposed to not having a price for services listed on my brochures at all. I've found that people tend not to call to inquire about price because they figure if it's not listed it's likely too expensive anyway.

sarah, I love your website too. such beautiful pictures and neat nature based backgrounds. You have so much good info on your site. I love the circumcision page! Your site is sort of like reading a good book.

Hi there! My website is listed below. I think my website appeals to a wide range of women - I get a few crunchy mamas, but mostly I appeal to more mainstream mamas.

I agree with what previous posters have said about contracts. Just start googling. I would recommend that you try to keep it to one to two pages.

As for brochures, don't use too much text. Keep aesthetics in mind and your brochure will appeal to a wider group of people.

Good luck!

It's not perfect, but it's my first attempt at a website. I need to add to it for sure, but it is what it is.

Oh, I also forgot, but there's a copy of my contract on there. i took the one my dona trainer used, and modified it a bit.

When I found it at first, I watched it over and over and over again. Not even listening to the woman's words... her voice itself is soooo soothing and reassuring.

My website is:

http://brooklyn-doula.com and I also maintain a blog with more pictures and videos and links and such. My website is basically a calling card and I like it that way. If you are going to set up a complicated website, make sure you will be maintaining it. I always notce when I site is not up to date, a link is dead, page is empty or says comiing soon and I hate that. I get a lot of work with a very simple site, so I keep it that way.

I print other materials from vista print. I got business crads and fridge magnets for my clients made.

Good luck!

I have a complicated site and it is pretty much always up to date. It saves me paper and time and money.

Also, I am not supposed to have any ads on my website as I pay a small fee to have them removed. I don't know why they are there and I have contacted freewebs to make sure that they are removed.

Thanks teachermom!

And doulasarah, your site looks great. I just mean for myself, that was my logic. I am not great at html and web design and I am not interested in paying someone else to do it so my answer has been the business card web site. I made one for my MIL and I am making one for my midwife right now.

On Macs you can use iWeb and if you get a .mac account it is super easy. I don't have this, but I know it is easy. You can start with a blogging iste perhaps - vox is one that I like. They have the tempplates and such already set up for you.

LOL My dsite is www.thebirthangel.com. Where are you located?

I used yahoo web hosting. I pay a small fee each month and have no ads on my site. Also, I got a free download of yahoo's site builder program. It's a work in progress and not as good as a professionally done site, but it serves the purpose.
