Is there a general time period that is good to be separated for? I am not in a hurry, and h would be filing... just wondering if there is any kind of recommended length of separation....

It depends on where you live. Where I am, we must be separated one year before we can get divorced. It varies from place to place...but a quick call to a local lawyer will get you the information you need.

I think in most states there is a legally required period of separation before you can file for divorce. In North Carolina it's one year.

Here in WI, there's no waiting period--but after you file, the divorce must wait at least 4 months.

My ex and I (no kids) filed pretty much the week we realized there was no going back. Once you're sure, here, there's no reason to wait.

In my state, there is no minimum time and one can get a divorce in a matter of days.

Until you or your ex knows, without a doubt, that the marriage is totally over.
