thank you for the new thread!!!

last night i was having contractions at 5 or so minutes apart - this may be tmi (sorry) but they made me feel as if i immediately had to poo. as soon as the contraction was over, i would feel normal again. i'm assuming this is a contraction, but i'm not sure????

thing is, i honestly don't know anyone who has gone into labor on their own. all the mothers i know personally have either had c-sections at 37 weeks or went to be induced at like 38 or 39 weeks.

i did some searching on message boards and it seems like everyone's labor starts differently anyway, so that didn't really help. i haven't lost my plug and i'm not having any show, so i assume that nothing is really happening.

i'm considering opting out of the cervical checks all together until i go into labor. i feel like knowing that i'm not making progress will do nothing but make the situation more stressful. thoughts??

giggleblue - I wouldn't worry about not making progress at the weekly appointment. Some women are 3cm dilated for weeks and weeks and go 2 weeks past their due date. Other women are not dilated at all and go into labor early. You never can tell.

Yup, I was 3 cm and the midwives got me all excited, and said I could go any day... ("could" should have tipped me off) and then 2 1/2 weeks later (a day after my due date) out she came. I almost think it's worse that way...the expecting something to happen when it's not ready to.

Yup. I was not dilated AT ALL and had Coco 20 hours later.

I was clueless and had cramps for about a week and lo and behold I was 4 cm and 80 % effaced when we went in for our midwife to induce me with the wretched verbena cocktail. Ya never know.

The same thing happened to me for weeks at the end of both pregnancies. It was totally tormenting the first time (we went for many a long walk, hoping to "get things going" believing that "this was it"). The second time, I hardly even paid attention, and the experience was much more peaceful. So my advice is to try to ignore it, don't time how frequently the contractions are coming, don't wonder, "is this labor?!" When you're really in labor, you'll know. And try to think of the contractions simply as what they are: your muscles strengthening and preparing for the labor which is soon to come.

I also avoided all cervical checks/vaginal exams in pregnancy (except for when I really thought I was in labor at 35 weeks (really I was birthing some kidney stones )) because the information tells you nothing, and the idea of anyone entering me at that point was so unappealing.

Try to enjoy these last few days/weeks . . . someday you really will miss having your sweet baby inside you.

Hi folks!
I'm here for as long as I'm here... let's hope the full 40 weeks!
I'm due November 15th
I have promised myself that I am not going to resist getting happy about this baby despite the 3 miscarriages. I know this one is it. WE've temporarily named the embryo "warm" (for many reasons) and I feel good to already have a a name so I can talk to the being growing inside of me and let him/her/it know that I want him/her/it to join us on the outside when ready!

Not much in the way of symptoms yet. I'm fine with that. Friday (tomorrow) and Monday I'll do blood tests to see the status of the HCG.

Anyway, I just wanted to dive in and join you guys (again)! And have fun despite my worries.

Zeben was due 11/13 (born 11/14) and I really loved the seasonal timing of the pregnancy (not too big in summer, but big enough that wearing a bathing suit was pretty fun . . . and then right when the dreariness of winter is approaching, you get a brand new baby to distract you, just in time for the holiday fun!).

Stick, baby warm, stick!

We were boring and mostly called ours "the baby." Sometimes I also called him (and still do), "the bean." For a while we also called the baby, "Koa" since that was going to be the name if we were having a girl, and possibly for a boy too. Now we mostly call him by what we think his name is actually going to be: Leo (Zeben says "Lee-lo").

My DPs actually called it "Peanut" a couple weeks ago, and I melted. Still, once in a while they still call it the Parasite.

Me, I call it the Nudger, 'cause it likes to nudge me throughout the day.

I will be excited for you. May your stay here be a long and healthy one!!

AAU: We had one baby shower on Wednesday. It was thrown by the neighborhood group that Quasar's parents belong to. What a wonderful and generous crowd!! This weekend is our big family and friends shower and I can't wait to see everyone there. We set up some of the nursery yesterday (finally)... Seeing the crib set up was making everything seem so much more real!

How are pranava and giggleblue doing? And if MamaBear is still lurking... HI! You must be getting close too!!

We should probably be taken off of the "recovering from loss, waiting to rejoin" since we've now rejoined.

No symptoms today. I wish I could just be happy about that!

I know, I know. I keep trying to remind myself that with DS, I wasn't sick until right after the first midwife appointment when she told me, "if you haven't been sick yet, you probably won't get sick." (at about 8 weeks).

Smartycat--you guys are getting closer!! DS was born on 4/6, a whole bunch of years ago, but really... great time of year to have a baby!

katie, i'm thinking sticky thoughts for you guys! congratulations! i'm happy to see you back!!

dp had dreams about 3/5, which came in went with nothing more than start/stop contractions. i feel like the baby is still not in the right position and i guess there isn't anything i can do about that beyond what i've already been doing. i'm trying to find faith that things will happen in due timing.

meanwhile, we set up the bassinet last night in our bedroom which has made this whole thing even more real. i've also been washing blanket and the like again. i'd like to get our thank you notes made today. really, i'm just doing things to distract myself as much as possible.

Boy this thread is quiet lately. There should be all kinds of talk... don't we have two or more little ones due to make their entrance? And then us April women are right around the corner.

We had our big baby shower on Sunday and it was a huge success. Many friends and family came from far and wide to celebrate with us. We got almost everything off of our registry except for a swing and crib sheets. We are so blessed. My mom was there. And if you recall, she has not been too supportive. She seemed to have a good time and when I got all choked up giving the "Thank you to everyone" speech, she was crying. So maybe there is some hope. I hope that she could see that many, many people support us and think this is a wonderful thing and not anything to be ashamed of.

One month to go. Boy time flies. We have the nursery partially set up. I am trying to organize things and remember what outfits were bought by who. I know people quiz you on that later. And just trying to get the last few things bought. Still so weird to think that all of this is going to result in a real baby.

Well, thats what is new with us... What is new with all of you? Lets do a bit of a roll call and have everyone post a little something... how many weeks... how are you feeling... any thing new and exciting on the pregnancy / baby front. Even if you feel it isn't exciting, I feel like I lost touch with where most people are.

That's great news about the baby shower, Smarty! I haven't decided if it's appropriate to have one since it's Baby #2 (DP wasn't around for Baby #1 and I lived in a different state...so maybe it's okay).

I'm 16 1/2 weeks and have been having lots of cramping and a tiny bit of spotting again. It's that darned subchorionic hematoma that doesn't seem to be healing. I've been feeling frustrated b/c I feel like our family is being torn apart with all of my bedrest. DP is really frustrated too and I just feel like things aren't great anymore between us. Sex isn't everything, but we haven't been able to be physical in almost a month b/c of this that's going on and it's really been hard. I called my midwife to let her know about the cramping b/c it was really bad yesterday and I felt really unsupported and alone after talking to her.

To make things worse, last week my mom went nuts and tried to get into my house when I had told her she was not allowed in (we've been having problems for 2 yrs but things have gotten worse lately b/c she thinks my trans-spouse is a hazard to the family...just for being trans). I had to file a police report and it's been such a stressful week.

Interestingly enough, my DP's parents, who are VERY religious and do not approve of our "lifestyle" have been GREAT since we told them about the baby 3 weeks ago. I guess, like someone else with religious parents told me, they see the baby as a gift from God, and they don't think past that. I was so sure they'd be hung up on our bringing a baby into what they think of as a life of sin. But they've been amazing. DP's mom even rubbed on my belly the other day at brunch...very unexpected!

So yes, things aren't so great here...but they'll be better soon.

We are really ready for spring.

Feeling lots of baby kicks now, every night we fall asleep feeling him. And the kids have gotten to feel him to, which is really sweet.

We think a lot about all of the things we have to/want to do before June, but aren't making great progress. It still feels like a long way off, but I know that it will sneak up on us.

Dw's belly-button is flat now, and I'm curious to see if it's going to stay that way or pop out.

Her belly is so, so beautiful. I will miss it enormously once the little one comes out.

I think this is the quietest part of pregnancy; the end of the second trimester. We're just waiting.

Smarty...so glad the shower went well...and of course that it seems like your mom is coming along. I can't belive your LO could be here so soon! It seems like just yesterday you and Quasar were telling us all about plan humpy-hump (is that it?)! :

Rane...so sorry about the family issues you're having. Hang in there...you know we are always here to lend an ear if you need it.

Lex...you guys are closest to me as far as DD I think...so it's cool to get updates from you so I can compare! Glad things are coming along so well for you so far.

As for me...haning in there at almost 24 weeks. Alex (it's so cool to be able to call him by name now ) has been jumping around like crazy the past couple of weeks! It's great! Although, due to my anterior placenta...it's really tough to feel him from the outside. Poor DP. I really want her to share that feeling with me...but so far she's just felt a kick or two...where I'm feeling him all day. I guess soon enough he'll be big enough to give some kicks and punches strong enough for her to feel. Besides the anterior placenta...the little bugger seems to stop moving completely whenever either of us touches my belly! It's crazy! He's jumping around like a madman...and I touch my belly...he stops completely! If I move my hand...he starts right back up! He's a little stinker already! Other than that...we picked up his furniture this weekend and got to spend some time with DP's family. It was a hectic weekend...lots of driving...and Alex LOVED being in the car!! He was going nuts in there!! We're a little obsessive...so we're planning on starting to put the nursery together in the next few weeks. I'm convinced that he will come early...so I want to be totally prepared by the end of May in case he makes an early appearance.

Isn't it amazing to be so totally in love with someone you've never even met yet?! It really is incredible to have so much love for this little guy.

Well...hope everyone is well...looking forward to hearing some more updates.

I LOVE that name! If I hadn't chosen it for my own middle name, I would definitely name DC Alex. It's so great.

Partnered mama with DD (01/04) and DD (08/09) and 8 critters, including a !

Raene So sorry about the mom issues.

Smartycat - glad your mom is coming along. I thought it was progress a few weeks ago when DP's momactually asked about how the baby and I were doing.

Things are going well here. We have our big baby shower this weekend. I'm really excited! My co-workers just had a surprise shower for me today. They all chipped in and got us the really nice (on the more expensive side) car seat I wanted. Last weekend we had a photographer friend come and take professional maternity portaits for us. They turned out great! Now I'm just trying to decide which ones to get prints of.
