Is anyone going or have been? I know it's not technically a "lesbian" event but has a large lesbian presence (or so I've heard). I really want to go this year. Initially I was going to take both kids (DS - 4, DD - 2), but then thought of taking only DD. DP suggested I go without the kids so that I can have a free weekend. I'm not sure, but I'm looking at tickets now.

It's us: DH , DS ; DD ; and me . Also there's the . And the 3 . I . Oh, and .

im going! I didn't get to go last year but I I've been a few times. It's AMAZING. My kids are staying with my DP so that I get a non sahm week. I'm so thankful for that but sad that I'm not taking my daughter this year. She loves Fest too but I'm in dire need of adult time.

Me, too. That's why I'm thinking of going without the kids. I may look for someone locally to go with me, though. The idea of going and not knowing anyone is a little weird for me.

I used to go every year, starting in 1999. I stopped when I moved to Cali. I MISS MICHFEST!!! I love it and want to go again so badly! Check out the Festival discussion boards if you haven't yet. It's a great community with a TON of helpful info. And there is a new person or "alone" people meet up at the beginning so you can get to know other people that are new or there alone. Really, you won't be "alone" by the 2nd day! You'll have lots of new friends by then.

Your DD will love it! But I bet you will too, if you go alone! Go for it! Buy your tickets and then I want to live vicariously through a festie virgin's eyes when you come back and tell us all about it!

I have to tell you about my Michfest curse. There is a lot of fest lore about couples meeting and falling in love at fest and then not lasting, like it's cursed. But my curse is that every relationship that I've been in and then gone to fest, either with that person or alone, has ended the relationship within two months. 100%. And it's not because "things" happen with me there. It's purely coincidence! I keep telling my DW that she'll have to go with me someday so we can break the curse or prove it wrong.

Went for 4 years (2003-2006). It's an awesome experience and I really think every woman should go at least once. There's an amazing energy on the land and you can really turn the festival into whatever you want it to be....there are activities at all hours of the day and night so you can stay super busy if you want. Or you can sit around your campsite and talk to people, read, drink, eat, whatever you want.

On the flip side, there can be some drama and some negativity. Again, I think it's what you make of it. The guarantee is that you'll meet some amazing people there. It's a great community and 99% of the womyn are willing to bend over backwards to help you with anything. If you're having trouble setting up a tent, you'll be amazed at the help that will come along! Same for any kind of questions, etc.

My current partner has never been (and she's from Michigan!). Would love to bring her up there one year.

I didn't realize they don't allow transwomen, though given their heavy restrictions on boys as young as 6, it doesn't surprise me.

I totally want to go, but I'm still a little weird about going alone. I'm an introvert anyway, so I'd hate to pay and then spend the weekend sitting in my tent alone!

michfests policy is that womyn born womyn are invited. I don't want this to turn into a debate on the transpolitics that this generally creates so I'll just leave it at that.

Fest is amazing. I really don't think you'll end up in your tent alone. I have made SOOO many friends at Fest and I'm pretty shy. Heck, come hang out with me and my friends!

According to this article, they've retired that policy and now allow transwomen in. This was written 2 years ago, so I'm assuming that haven't changed it again since then.

No, read the long comment after the article that tells the truth about that article. The policy is still in effect.
