Burg--so relieved that everything is fine for you, keep taking care of yourself & baby!

Looking forward to hearing those birth stories as you new mamas and papas get settled!

QOTD--I have recently found that my tone of voice and attitude while responding gives people a good idea of how they should respond in turn. I've never been so out (and we're just pregnant, baby isn't even here yet!) in my life! We also don't get the sister question really--I'm 6 ft, blue eyed and dp is 5'5 brown hair brown eyes--we look nothing alike!

On the other side, at a training this week, I sat at a table with an older lady, probably between 60 and 70 (I'm no good judge of age) possibly older. She asked "I just want to know if your husband is as tall as you" I think in wondering how big our baby might be. I responded, "well, I have a female partner" and without missing a beat she asked, "do you know much about the sperm donors height then?" I was totally (and pleasantly) surprised by her use of the term that I find myself so often introducing to people my own age. This reminded me that sometimes I assume that people don't know/care/understand about my life and that I am often wrong!

Mistral!!!!!!! Many congrats, and thanks for the story! Hope you are enjoying your little one even right this moment. xox

QOTD~ I don't think DP and I have had this problem, or at least if anyone's made this assumption, they've not voiced it to either of us. We look very different. I'm clearly of Irish descent, and she's half-Portuguese and very dark, so they probably just think we're friends. Ah well No one's ever responded badly to my coming out to them, so I hope this continues.

Who's next on the baby list! We need another birth!

October has been a great birthing month. Keep it coming!

We're now 17w4d and I'm really getting to enjoy this pregnancy. The baby is doing well (I think, as it's been almost a month since my last midwife appt and my belly is growing and I've felt some spuratic movement).

Right now, we're sorting out a bunch of medical issues on my front related to genetic inheritance. My brother has a blood disorder that is similar to hemophilia in the lack of ability to clot, only it's random - sometimes he clots and sometimes he doesn't. It's called Von Willebrand. This is a hereditary disease, yet my mother (who has many of the symptoms) has never been tested. I don't have any of the symptoms (with the exception of one). My midwife called last week to let me know that my last blood test showed that my platelets were too low and this can affect clotting. With the Von Willebrand noted in my file, she wanted to discuss further as this could indicate a risk of bleeding out during labour. There is no need for alarm yet, but it's something we'll have to monitor and make some informed decisions on. I have to discuss with my midwife further at my appt on Thursday. Slightly stressful, but it's a wait and see game.

DW and I are moms to two teens (DD 17 and DS 15) adopted through CAS in 2007 and a toddler (DD 2) born at home in March 2011.

Coco~ How awesome! It won't be much longer until I can feel our littleun move, and DP's said she's jealous that I'll get to feel it first. It must be wonderful for you for sure.

Gumshoe~ YIKES! That does sound like something to be nervous about. I'm glad they're watching you closely already, and are aware of the situation. Forewarned is forearmed. It's so exciting that you're feeling movement now, though. You're just a few weeks ahead of me, so it won't be long for me either. Yay! Do keep us posted about your health info, and we'll keep everything crossed for you.

AFM~ Not much. 15 weeks now and feeling really good. I'm outgrowing clothes, but not really looking preggo yet. Had a very fruitful maternity thrift-shopping this weekend, so that is very useful. Have a doc and midwife appointment tomorrow~ midwife is routine, the doc's going to draw a gallon of blood for various tests. All's progressing well, fortunately.

Coco!!! that is super exciting!!! congrats on that milestone! enjoy...

gumshoe, sorry for the stressful finding... but like library said, forewarned is forearmed! FX that everything will be just fine...

library, 15 weeks!!! yay!! and yay for a fruitful thrift store trip! i just scored 4 pair of motherhood secret belly pants at goodwill last week... they are awesome! and just in time too! i seem to have out grown all of my "fat" jeans overnight!
i'm hoping you start to feel movement soon, it's the most amazing thing ever!

afm, like i said... moving into maternity clothes... ppl are starting to comment that i'm starting to show, but all i feel is more fat really... my belly isn't very round.
in better news, we bought a crib and changing table this weekend! i'll post pics later if anyone's interested... this is starting to feel more and more real...

wehrli - Yay for cribs and baby stuff! I also felt fat for a long time before I really looked pregnant, so I know how you feel.

Library - Yay for feeling good! If this helps, I was wearing maternity jeans before I looked pregnant and just using a Belly Band (like $10 at Target) to keep them up. MUCH more comfy than regular clothes!

gumshoe - Yay for feeling good and feeling movement! Boo for added stress. If it helps, the further along I get, the more I realize that I can't get too attached to my birth preference. You just never know. The important thing is that you and baby stay happy and healthy, no matter how s/he comes into the world! BTW, do you know what you're having?

coco - Yay for feeling movement! I love to lay in bed with DP at night paying attention to how the baby is moving and what she likes. Last night DP sang some Liza Minnelli to her, and she seemed to really like it! (Yes, I said Liza Minnelli. My DP might as well be a gay man sometimes... )

Monarch and smartycat & quasar - thinking of you!

AFM - We've been to two Hypnoborthing classes now, and have learned some really valuable relaxation and breathing techniques that I am thankful to have. However, when I hear the voice of Marie Mognan (the HypnoBirthing founder) on audios and in videos, I want to punch her in the face. Apparently, it's a common complaint among couples taking HypnoBirthing!

New QOTD - What weird and/or unexpected changes have you or your partner experienced since getting pregnant?

My Answer - First, my belly is covered in a layer of fuzzy blond hair. (I have dark hair everywhere else.) My belly looks like a peach! Even weirder, I used to wash my hair every other day because it would get too oily if I went longer than that without washing it. Since early on in the pregnancy, I can go almost a whole week without a wash and my hair looks beautiful! You can't tell the difference between the wash day and 5 days later. Really weird, but I'll definitely take it!

Korey~ Cracking up about the hypnobirthing woman's voice. Now I want to hear it just to see how annoying it can be!! We're starting Bradley Method classes next weekend. I hope it's going to be okay. Part of me can't get past the extreme emphasis on the word HUSBAND in all the literature. And the email of the teacher has an evangelical christian bible quote as her signature line. I hope we don't get any guff, since this is the only class in town.

QOTD~ Forgive me if this is oversharing, but my nipples are enormous. My breasts have grown, but my nips have grown like crazy. It kind of freaks me out a bit, and I have to be very conscious of my bra and my shirt so I don't 'shine' on everyone. The best thing that's happened is my skin has cleared up. I used to always have a zit or two and now I have flawless skin. It's kinda nice!

"picture yourself on a mist of green....."

I still can't shake this woman's voice 8 years later. We did hypnobirthing for DS's birth and DW did hypnobabies for DD's birth. We joke to this day about mists of green....her voice can SO be like nails on a chalkboard.

Hoping it still works well for you!

i'm totally with you on the nipple thing! i was never one to have to worry about 'shining' someone...
i'm totally envious about your clear skin... i've always had a pimple every now and again, but now i have 2-3 at all times. boo.

good luck with your classes... i hope they go well! we decided against classes (for some of the reasons you mentioned being aprehensive) and are just doing hypnobabies at home and our midwife is educating herself on it as well.

Ok, I haven't posted here in a couple of weeks so I'm going to start by saying

Congrats to Lyndzies!!! Cadence is beautiful and has the cutest chubby cheeks! We got an ultrasound last week and when they turned on 3D our little girl had chubby cheeks too.

Congrats also to Mistral on the birth of Olivia. Very pretty name!

Gumshoegirl, I have Prothrombin Mutation Factor 2. It's a rare blod clotting disorder that I didn't know I had until I got tested after late 2nd tri miscarriage. I am taking lovenox daily and will switch to heparin in a few weeks. Don't worry. Hopefully you can go see a hematologist, get tested and ease your concerns. I am now 32 weeks and the baby is doing well.

QOTD - Interesting that my nips are also more pronounced but not shining too much. I can't think of anything else that is that odd or unusual. I've had a lot of folks tell me they think I'm losing weight. That would be nice if after the baby I dropped more weight than I've gained (10 lbs). But I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary in my diet. I thought for sure I would've gained much more and been much bigger.

Madly in love w/DW by the same name, mourning the baby girl we lost and expecting another baby in December 2010!

Hi everyone! If we go by conception date then I'm due tomorrow! Wow! If we go by the first ultrasound where they pushed the date based on her size, then the EDD is next Tuesday. My midwives are using the later one to buy more time, but it's crazy to think that I've been pregnant 40 weeks tomorrow! I'm still just hanging out, keeping my BP low, not working and spending tons of quality time with DW alone before we're a family of three. DW used to work nights and is now about to be a SAHM so it's really new for us to spend 24hours a day together. It's great! So just hanging out, being patient, but ready! SO ready! We've been given homework of two orgasms a day. Whew! Trying to enjoy it but when it's homework AND twice a day? Not so much. Ugh!

Coco- yay for feeling movement! That's awesome!

Gumshoe- that's scary. Hopefully you'll find out some good news though. Keep us posted.

Mistral: Congratulations on the birth of Olivia! (I love that name!) Hope you're healing well! Have you tried a "bottom" tea for your sitz bath? For my doula clients, I used to make an infusion of yarrow, rosemary, calendula, plantain, marshmallow and witch hazel. I also made them comfrey tea to drink.

burg: Back spasms are painful! Ouch! I get muscle spasms often because of my condition. I generally use a thermafore (moist heating pad) and an epsom salt soak to help ease them. I'm glad everything is looking good with the baby! What a relief!

wishin'&hopin': That's super cute about your partner having a "male clone". Also, thanks for the baby wearing advice! I'm always interested to see what works for people. I totally want to try that storch woven wrap and the moby. (I heard they're better for taller, rounder people which I am. lol)

As to korey's QOTD, quite often people assume that when we go to do things together that require paperwork, the person inevitably asks about our non-existent male partner even though the other one is sitting/standing RIGHT THERE. We just correct them and leave it at that. (EG: "What about your partner, is he going to blah blah blah?" "Yes, SHE is going to be able to do that.") Here, they have family health cards, and we were combining ours since we just registered as common-law, and I needed to change my name on it as well. The person there said "Oh, well you actually have to have a legal name change to be able to do that." So I had to (loudly... ) remind her how we are a real couple, and we could combine our names like any other couple when they got legally hitched. She turned bright red, sputtered a little and was like, "Oh, right; I forgot," and went on with the paperwork.
As for the parent thing, we just always say something about her other mom. (Whichever one of us that is at the time. lol)

mtnlisa: The story about the little old lady totally made my day!! How awesome!

gumshoegirl007: Oooh, yay for movement!! Have you considered taking a small piece of placenta sublingually right after it's out to prevent postpartum hemorrhage? I've heard it works wonders, and leaves you feeling energised! My friend who's vegan did it, and said she didn't notice much of a taste at all, and she generally bleeds a lot after birth, but totally didn't this time around and totally credits the placenta.

LibraryLady: Awww, I know how your DP feels with having to wait to feel the baby move. It's so exiting when you can finally feel kicks from the outside though!

wehrli: Sonja felt the same way... she wouldn't even let me take belly pics because she thought she looked more fat than pregnant until she was at least eight months! lol And yeah, post pics of your new stuff! Yay!

AFU: We're pretty much all set for baby to arrive! Baby's looking like ze might be breech though which means we're going to have to be extra vigilant with our UC, so we bought a stethoscope. Hopefully that helps a bit. We're thinking that we might just UC the labour, and call the midwives in for second stage depending on how things go. I can't believe we only have a week to go until the EDD!! I'm so excited to meet baby!!

placenta.gifeat.gif I'm a queer / trans-activist / poly / pagan / (dis)abled  / crazy / crunchy partner to fsonj; we're mamas to our unschooled/freeskooled 10yo, and co-breastfeed our sprightly toddler love.gif born Nov '10! (Ask me about how to supplement at the breast!)

So many babies due! Wishing all who are next wonderful birthing experiences. Can't wait to hear updates and of course see pictures

erthe_mama- I hope that baby turns around soon! Would your midwife recommend a hospital birth if the baby stays breech?

Monarchgrrl- very exciting that DW will be a SAHM. Enjoy the time together and good luck with the HW!

Korey- glad to hear the classes have been worthwhile apart some the annoying voice, lol.

wehrli- yay for baby stuff! Definitely post pictures

gumshoegirl007- Good luck at your appointment tomorrow. I am glad that they are aware of the risk now and can plan around it.

Coco- yay for feeling movement!

I was actually helping at a golf tournament fundraiser for work. I was out on the 8th hole witnessing the hole in one by myself and let me add that I did not know anyone and had bad cell phone reception. They gave me a chair to sit in but I did not realize that it was not level because there were pine needles everywhere and I went flying over backward. Someone was supposed to come get me because I needed to leave 5 minutes after I fell but after 15 minutes had gone by I started to get worried and walked up the hill to find someone. By the time I got there I was in a lot of pain and was starting to get a little hysterical. (A friend of mine that I have known since high school delivered a baby a couple days before at 28 weeks after an abruption and that is all I could think about. I was only 24 weeks.) By the time someone actually came to get me I think it had been over 40 minutes since I fell. OK, that was a long explanation but all the circumstances made it even more scary. I hopped in my car so fast, I just wanted to get out of there and find out what my doctor wanted me to do. I have to say that everyone at the hospital was wonderful and I am very happy to be birthing there, that is one good thing to come out of this. I was scared of giving birth and being in the hospital.

QOTD1- Total overshare but my breast are huge now (DDD, eep!) With huge blue veins and giant areolas. I have 2 large pimples that seem to have taken up permanent residence below my mouth, I have always had really dry skin so never really had much of an issue with pimples...I feel like a teenager!

QOTD2- I think most people assume we're a couple when we're together. Even though we live in a pretty liberal area we tend to get a lot of stares in the grocery store, etc. I know I am going to be intolerant of this when we are out with the baby. Grr. We haven't been mistaken for sisters or anything like that. When I am not with DW people ask about my husband...

Had a pretty quick appointment today. All looks good and we're still about 3+ and now 80% effaced. After the appointment I had some low, crampy contractions. They've come on and off all day, and were stronger after I nursed DS a couple times. So, things are happening.

Loving partner to smartycat  ribbonrainbow.gif  . Enjoying life with our DS's- 4/5/09 and 10/29/10 love.gif!  Moms to three dogs and four cats.

quasar, come on baby!!! sending you ELV :goodvibe

burg, that's quite a tramatic experience... how are you doing now? physically? emotionally? i'm so glad you seem to be much better...

erthe, good luck with your UC... i hope everything goes wonderfully! it's getting close...

monarch, how are you doing? how's the HW coming? (no pun intended... )

kimlyn, good to "see" you... how are you doing?

afm, nothing much here... we went and bought some cloth dipes last night at our local cloth dipe store... just a few covers, a pack of prefolds, a couple of fitteds, and an all-in-one (which is super cute!).

oh, yeah... pics of the nursery...

Wehrli~ Adorably nursery! I like the kitty you installed. Was it from Ikea?

erthe-mama~ Yikes about the breech, hopefully things will resolve itself. I think you're wise to have the midwife monitoring. I'd hate for anything to happen to you and the bambino!!

burg~ That does sound terrifying. I'm glad everything turned out okay and that you're feeling more positive about the birth. I'm also sorry about your gigantic boobs! Are you getting backaches? Well, other than the regular pregnancy backaches...

Quasar~ Won't be long now!!! Can't wait to hear how it all goes xo

AFM~ Had a good visit with the midwife. Good heartbeat, lots of movement, none of which I can yet feel. In an instance related to the QOTD, DP and I are in the room together, and when the nurse comes in to draw blood/give me a flu shot, she WILL NOT STOP yammering on about 'You're doing such a good thing, being safe. Tell your husband he owes you dinner now! Tell him you're protecting HIS baby, the husbands they really love it when you tell them that it's HIS baby you're protecting, and then your husband will take you out to dinner!' Many times I confront people, but in this case she was seriously talking a nonstop stream of this nonsense and I just didn't bother interrupting. I did make DP take me out to dinner, though...

For the past 4 hours now I've had low, mildly painful contractions 10 minutes apart and lasting about 30 seconds each. Hoping this is the start of it!

Woohoo! Come on baby quasar-cat! I hope this is it! ELV's to you.

I'm doing well. Woke up today with bad lower back cramps. That's what I would get every month as menstrual cramps. They haven't let up but haven't gotten worse. Maybe it's the start of something? And I felt pretty nauseated earlier. We'll see.

Homework is going ok. I can only do once per day. Twice is just too much. Great pun, wherli!

Love the nursery pics, especially the kitty. So life-like!

Still no baby over here. I woke up this morning around 7:30 to pretty strong and mildly painful contractions (definitely not BH). They were coming about every 10 minutes (lasting 30 seconds each) until 2pm, when they just sort of disappeared. I ended up taking a nap and when I woke up I was feeling a little achy. Contractions started up a little after 6 again and I took a drive around 8 which really got them going. But they've slowed down again. When they do come, they're a little stronger than earlier. Can't believe this has been going on almost all day and hasn't really progressed.
