Hi there!

I'm a student at Hunter College, City University of New York, seeking participants to volunteer for my study on same-sex parenting and attachment and cognitive development.

The purpose of this web-based research study is to learn about which aspects of different family structures, and parental behaviors and beliefs are relevant to child attachment and cognitive development.  More specifically, this study aims to find out whether any differences exist in the attachment styles and cognitive development of children raised by gay, lesbian, and straight parents.

We are looking for parents who have children ages 9 to 13 to fill out an online questionnaire about themselves, their children, and which strategies they think would be the most efficient when dealing with certain day to day scenarios. The questionnaire typically takes about 45-60 minutes for the parent, and 30-45 minutes for the child to complete.  It will be fun, and we will have you thinking!

The study involves no more than minimal risk to participants (i.e., the level of risk encountered in everyday life), and involves no deception.  No identifying information will be asked from you or your child. All responses will be treated as confidential, and in no case will responses from individual participants be identified. Participation is strictly anonymous.

Your participation in this study will help us understand how parenting behaviors, parental knowledge of effective parenting strategies, and family structures relate to child attachment theory and children’s cognitive development. You may also benefit from knowing you will have contributed to science and from thinking about some of the different issues raised in the questionnaire.

If you have any questions regarding your rights as a participant, or if you or your child have experienced anyresearch-related discomfort, you should contact the Hunter College Human Research Protection Program.
