hopeful: <3 I can sympathize with how you're feeling for sure.  Have you always only taken 50mg of clomid?  That's a fairly low dose and there is wiggle room in that.  I think the average is about 100mg.  How many follies do you typically see and how does your lining look?

I'm actually at a similar cross roads.  I only recently started ovulating on my own, but with the cost of sperm, I wanted to maximize my chance, so I started with meds out of the gate.  I responded fine to clomid even at the lower dose, but my doc did increase it.  My lining was acceptable, but not as thick as when I don't use clomid.  I was average 8.5 to 9.5 on clomid, but without it my lining is more like 11.  I did one cycle of follistim and it took  A LOT of medication and THREE WEEKS of injections.  My lining looked great but I went from having 0 mature follicles to 8 measureable follicles with 4+ at maturity.  I still didn't get pregnant that cycle.  So, I didn't see much benefit with the injectibles.  I'm planning to try the next cycle with femera.  I have heard many anectdotal stories of people getting pregnant on femera when clomid had not worked.  My understanding is that femera tends to yield fewer follicles, but that they are thought to be slightly better quality and the lining tends to be thicker with femera for most people. My next step is also going to include immediate progesterone supplementation post IUI.  I think that my initial progesterone check is fine, but I think it drops suddenly after that and I'm missing out on 2-3 days of possible implantation time.

I don't know if this is helpful, but I've been obsessing over your very same question. I hope it helps. :)

afm: I got my period on Friday 3 days early.  So, trying to decide if I want to try again this cycle. I was supposed to start femera last night, but I delayed so I could try to make a decision tonight.  I still am not sure what I'm going to do.

Hopeful and Jenny - sorry for your BFN's, it always sucks so much!

When we figured that IUIs might not be working after 9 insems, we switched to IVF with Menopur in a specialized clinic. They were also able to do more testing that we hadn't done before. Those tests showed issues that we hadn't know about, especially concerns about egg quality which were based on my extrmely low AMH and some other markers. During the IUI ultrasounds I always had one or two nice big follies and clear ovulation but of course we never knew about the quality of the eggs in there. I was pretty bummed, being only 34 years old but having 'old eggs' and lame ovaries. With the IVF meds (high dose of Menopur, 4 vials) we got 3 good eggs that we could fertilize, so for our case that seems to have been the solution. We also helped implantation with lots of progesterone.
Another thing that we did even before starting with those treatments was putting me on thyroid meds to lower my TSH (which wasn't too high at 1.9, but lower is better for conception, takes work of the hormonal system) and supplement vitamin D (I am way below normal levels). There have been signs that both of those have an influence on fertility, so it might be worth checking those out.

Good luck to both of you!

Mama, Thank you for the crossed fingers!!  I hope your DW's cycle returns to normal soon:)  It took mine longer than I expected, and that was without a car accident.  Sending you both positive energy<3

OMOM, Sounds like you have a great plan to get ready for another little one!  I hope the weaning goes smoothly.  Is it warming up at all there?  As I look around our yard and house, there's lots I wish I could do and want to get done, and yet, the weather is crap still.  Plus, I am not really supposed to mess with dirt or over do it:)  Good luck on your projects!!

FRIED, HOLY CRAP!!  I am so glad you and baby are okay:Hug  Wow, I can't imagine how scary that whole experience must have been...I am really sorry you had to go through it.  I hope your recovery is quick.  Good that you are getting to rest for a while.  Whew!  Girl, you've been through it!  Maybe this will mean that labor will be easy:)  Sending healing thoughts to you!!

Hopeful, really sorry about your bfn this cycle.  Figuring out next steps is not easy, I know.  I have been ttc for a little over a year...first 3 months with a KD out of town (so travelling 3 hours each way, staying in a hotel for 1-3 nights each time) which was rough.  Then we began trying with a local KD...conceived on try #5 and mc'd early into it.  Started trying again in January (but can't really count that month -- not sure of O and timing) so really Feb and Mar, and got our bfp from the Mar insem.  We never got his sperm level ck'd bcuz we knew he was successful in helping another lesbian couple right before he started working with us.  I hope you are able to make the best decisions and get your bfp!  I am glad you are educating yourself and advocating for what you want.  Sometimes that is what you need to do in order to get the docs to try something different or pay attention to you as an individual.  I know that doesn't make much sense but I think it's important to speak up and be proactive!  Just an aside, my sis in law tried for 3 years before she conceived.  So don't give up!!  It'll happen for you<3

Jenny, how's it going?  Did you decide to go with the Fermera?  I am glad you are going with the progesterone supplement, as well.  Seems like it helps lots of women here!  Hang in there, too:)

afm/u, I am very moody :innocent  I am surprised DW and DS still love me at this point...especially DW.  I got the call yesterday that my hcg more than dbled from Wednesday to Friday last week, so we have an u/s scheduled for next Tuesday to see that heartbeat flicker!!  I will be able to breathe a sigh of relieve at that point.  Thanks again, for all the positive sticky baby vibes.  I am a true believer that positive thoughts produce positive results!!

frederike: Glad to hear you are okay!  That must have been so scary!

Jwaite: I decided to take this cycle off, but I have the femera for next cycle.  I just couldn't face another disappointment so soon.

So much going on with everyone lately! I can't wait to start trying to have a baby! We are thinking of trying in July, so far away!!!! Maybe in June I can convince her that we can try. lol I'm trying to really focus on getting when I ovulate down. Im on my 2nd month trying to figure out when I ovulate. Question: How long do you suggest learning about when you ovulate before trying to do a IUI? Im soo impatient and want to start trying to have a baby asap. We have a son who is 4 1/2 and I dont want that age gap to get any bigger.

For everyone who has kids, what are their age, and name and whats the age gap like? How do they get along if the age gap is big?

mkgarcia - if you're planning to work with and RE for IUIs, you may want to find out if they require anything before you start. We met with an insemination specialist (who we actually ended up not using) and she required a bunch of blood tests and that I track my ovulation with basel body temperature (bbt) and an ovulation predictor kit (OPK) for three months before she would do an IUI. She also strongly recommended using the clear blue brand OPKs - they're more expensive, but I do think they worked better for me than any others. At the time I was kind of annoyed that she asked so much of me, because I was anxious to start, but ultimately, I'm glad with did those things, because I think it helped us to get our bfp. Good luck with everything!

Rooting along with the rest of you!

fried- holy crap girl. Thank goodness they did an emergency appendectomy! And I'm so glad the baby didn't mind the construction happening beside him. I hope you're healing up quickly, and enjoying the forced rest and recovery. What a scare, but I'm glad you and baby are okay.

jwaite- such exciting times for you! Yeah- just waiting for DW to bleed. She's almost a week late now, and by my running estimation, the FET might be during the busiest week for both of us... Oh well.

mkgarcia- I tracked my BBT for several months before starting the process- mostly because I'm a data nerd and found the whole process interesting. I also did some acupuncture for a couple of months before trying.

jwaite, will you move me to Waiting to O?

My period came along as expected a few days ago. For a host of reasons, I'm going to try one more month unmedicated, inseminating next week on CD15 and CD17. Then, I'll be traveling for work for 10 days through mid-May, so that'll take up most of my TWW (and hopefully keep me from obsessing).

My biggest news of note is that, after years of serious addiction, I quit diet soda (in my previous attempts to quit, I'd gotten off regular soda and then gotten stuck) about a month ago. I knew I'd need to stop once I got pregnant, but every time I tried to cut down, I'd just lapse. I kept reading all these articles about how it could be an endocrine-disrupter, etc., etc., etc., so finally I just decided I was done. And so far, so good! A part of me is hoping that that one attempt to be more healthy is going to do the trick, and this will be my month.

Then again, assuming I don't get pregnant this month, I've signed up to be part of a pre-eclampsia study starting in May. The study takes women who are trying to get pregnant, who'll either be first time moms, or who have pre-existing BP problems or past Pre-E, and does a bunch of testing (bp, body comp, blood volume, etc.) in a pre-conception visit. They give you OPKs and send you on your way, and if you get pregnant, you go in for 1st and 3rd trimester visits to repeat some of the testing--the idea being to see if there are pre-pregnancy predictors of who will have problems with Pre-E. I would have done the first visit this cycle, but I'm crazy with work in prep for my early May trip and couldn't take a day off to go do the prelim visit. So, it would be sort of ironic (maybe in an Alanis Morrissette sort of a way) if I got pregnant now, after months of trying, just in time to not be able to do the study. Though, if that does happen, I will not be complaining! Actually, I told my housemate about the study, and they said "is this a tricky way of telling me you're pregnant?" I wish!

Welcome to the new folks, and, as always, fingers crossed for everybody!

freiderike - whoa! I'm glad you are healing well!!! No more talk about 23 week old premies indeed. I hope you had a restful easter and are healing well. yikes!!!  I have no preference re: girl or boy. My kids keep asking for twin sisters.

mkgarcia - my two are three years apart in age. They play together and get along well. My sister and I were the same in distance and I liked it growing up.

fille - the study sounds great! I hope you aren't a part of it :) FX this is your month :)

afm - I saw a specialist about some abdominal issues I've had since S's birth. Turns out I tore my muscle pretty impressively during labour ?, and re-tore it later doing some heavy construction lifting. I was worried that they might recommend not getting pregnant again - in case there is nerve entrapment or something could get very painful. He actually recommended getting pregnant! saying it would help stretch out the muscle and break down the scar tissue. YIPPEE! Dr's recommendations: swim three times a week. Go TTC. Best recommendations ever.

OMOM, that IS a great recommendation!!  Whoo hoo!  Best of luck to you, and keep us posted:)

Jenny, I am glad you are taking care of yourself and not pushing yourself too far.  Continuing to keep you in my thoughts that you are able to have a much needed rest!

mkgarcia, sounds like you will be right on track for an IUI in July!  It's great that you are tracking and getting to know your body so well!  I found I knew my body better and better with each cycle.  I used the bbt and opk (I personally like the digital ones, altho' they are quite expensive, the peace of mind was worth it to me.  I also tested twice a day when I got closer to O day because my LH surge happens closer to ovulation than the text book majority.  All things I figured out as I have been going through the journey of ttc:)).  I also used an app on my phone to store all the info in.  Some ppl like fertility friend.  I hope this helps.  You asked about age gaps of siblings - my DS is 10 so there will be a huge difference in age of our next children and him.  But he is okay with that, and actually, he's quite excited to be a big bro'.

Mama, hope you guys are hanging in there!!  :Hug

NiseNise, WELCOME BACK!  I have added you to the TWW:)  When are you going to start testing??  I usually try to hold out til at least 12dpo but I also know that waiting longer is better to get an accurate result.  Best of luck to you guys!

Fille, got your moved to waiting to O.  I hope signing up for the test sample brings you good luck!!  That would be quite ironic, you're right.  :)

afm, had my appt this morning and no heartbeat.  Not sure what to think.  Our OB thinks it's a failed pregnancy.  But he ordered b/w to see where my hcg is at.  And now we wait.  Not sure what he'll order next, I guess he's waiting on my beta #s before we make any more plans.  We are bummed, worried, pissed, and trying to still be a little optimistic that maybe we are just too early and there is still a bit of hope that this little one is taking its sweet time.  Don't really know what to think or feel at this point.  Still feeling pregnant and not bleeding.  Still praying for a miracle.:candle

:namaste all !!  Wishing everyone the best.

Jwaite, I am thinking of you and hoping it was just too early to see the heartbeat. Your numbers going up seem like a really fabulous thing! Everything that I can possibly cross is crossed for you.

Fille- Sorry about your BFN. I'm hoping you won't be able to do that study since you will already be pregnant :)

Jenny- I have been on 50 mg of Clomid for 3 months and my RE doesn't want to increase it. I typically see three follies above 20mm and she hasn't talked about my lining so I am assuming it looks good.I think she may have said it was 10 when she was doing the ultrasound last time.  She says I am responding really well to it and that she thinks that if she gave me something else I would overproduce, but I think she just might be saying that to make me feel good.  The issue is not me ovulating though. In fact, we don't really now what the problem is. There is a possiblity that I have endometrosis and our sperm donor has lower than average counts. I have also read those stories about Femera being the magic trick for people. I hope it works for you.  Thanks for all the information. It really does help to compare my results to other peoples,

Fried- Thanks for the information. My previous PCP had me on thyroid meds a few years ago but when I got my levels checked again with my new doctor after I moved, she didn't think there was a problem with my levels. I think I'll look into that and the Vitamin D. Thanks for the reminder.

Mkgarcia- I tracked my cycles for about three months before starting to try. I think it was really helpful in timing things and I learned so much about my body. Is there a reason your DP wants to wait until July to start trying? Remind me, are you using a KD or frozen sperm? In my opinion, having the time to learn about when you typically ovulate is more important when using frozen sperm because you typically only have one or two insems each month, where with a KD there can be more flexibility.

Nise- Any news? How did this cycle go?

AFM- Can I be moved to TWW? We did a mid cycle ultrasound on Wednesday and I had a nice chat with my doctor. I had emailed the nurse when I got my period this cycle, and was really frustrated and wanting to try something else, and apparently the nurse told the doctor all about it. So she kinda told me about what to expect next and gave me a glimpse into the plan. If this cycle doesn't work I will be making an appt for us to get a detailed long term plan. She said that I was responding really well to the Clomid and that she wouldn't want to put me on anything stronger. I didn't think three follicles were that fabulous but she made it seem like it was a really great thing, I think it was just to make me feel better. She also mentioned doing IVF to bypass the possible endometrosis and "mild" male factor. So we will see. Maybe this cycle will work and we won't need to create a plan. As of yesterday, I haven't had a positive OPK yet so we did a shot of Ovidrel and we will go in tomorrow for our IUI.

After years of waiting, DP and I are so excited for the arrival of our baby girl, expected January 15th 2015.
Remebering our Angel Baby, Emery.

Jwaite, I don't know too much about HCG levels/doubling times, so I looked it up and the sites I looked at all said after 6000, the doubling time can be four days or more and that's perfectly normal. It seems like going up is the key. Continuing to hope you get good news!

36, hoping to have a new member of the family in 2015, to join my queer clan: Me , Things 1&2 , my long-distance KD/cheerleader (the guy who's been telling everyone what a great mom I'm going to be) , and the rest of the superheroes and sidekicks .

Jwaite - I'm so glad your numbers are still heading in the right direction - I've been keeping you in my thoughts and have my fingers crossed for Monday! fingersx.gif

Lots of good thoughts and babydust to everyone else! I've been lurking around still post-graduating since the other board can be so quiet. Everything is going strong here. Did the NIPT test on Monday and results take 7-10 days. So excited to find out if we'll be having a boy or a girl  stork-suprise.gif

Jwaite - I'm glad to hear the numbers are going up - that does seem promising. Will you remind me how far along you are? And did your doctor do an external or transvaginal ultrasound? Or just use a doppler to try to find the heartbeat? I'm curious about all these details...I hope your appointment on Monday gives you some valuable information!

Hopeful - sounds like you have a really good plan for this cycle and it must be nice to know there are solid options moving forward, if you need them. I hope this cycle works out for you!

How is everyone else doing? I'm with pookafaye - the board does seem more active than others. And I think am still finding it hard to feel ready to move on after being on this board for so long...so, I'll keep hanging out a bit and rooting for all of you!

Jwaite, thanks for asking about me - I just had an appointment with the midwife this afternoon and she found the heartbeat right away with the doppler - we also heard a lot of kicking (which, of course, I can't feel at all yet). It was a kind of emotional experience because it was the first time the doppler has actually given us good news!

me (34) and dp (39). After 18 months of IVI with a KD and 2 losses excitedly awaiting the arrival of a baby in October 2014!

Sorry have been gone for awhile but the last few weeks have been super stressful.  Good news.  HSG is normal.  Bad news:  Ovulated last cycle, OPK did not catch it and it wouldn't have mattered anyway because it happened on a Saturday and my doctor doesn't do IUIs on Sundays.  Oh well... there's always next time.....

Hopeful:  Sending you lots of baby dust

Jwaite:  Hoping for the best

lea2012:  Very happy for you!

Hopeful, I got you moved!  Hope the IUI was painless today:)  I am glad you had an encouraging meeting with your RE.  As they say, it only takes one egg and one swimmer to accomplish the task, so hopefully 3 follies each time give you a good shot!!  I'm sending you lots of baby dust that this is your cycle  dust.gif

Fille, THANK YOU for the info!!  I am staying as positive as possible:)  This info helps<3

Pookafaye, I am so glad that your progressing and think it's really neat that you get to find out the sex so early.  How was the NIPT test administered?  Did they use tissue from the embryo?  Was it painful?

Mama, thanks again for the encouragement!  How are you guys hanging in??  Still waiting for AF?

Lea, I am so excited for you that you got to hear a heartbeat with the dobbler, and movement, too!!!  Whew!  I bet that WAS SO EMOTIONAL:Hug  I am really excited for you guys!!  After all you've been through, you deserve a healthy pregnancy<3  Are you going to find out the sex of the baby?  Are you starting to 'poke out' yet??  :)  Today I am 6w6d according to LDP.  I had a trans vaginal u/s on 6w2d.  Showing an empty gestational sac, which measured correctly with how far along I am.  The OB is comparing it to the u/s 7 months ago that indicated the m/c, which was a bit upsetting to me...he's saying it's the same scenerio...I'm saying it's really not.  That one was done in the 7w +d mark, showed a gestational and yolk sac with a slight fetal pole measuring at 5w?d and I had started bleeding (slightly).  This time no bleeding, and I am really hoping this embryo is just a 'late bloomer'.  I have been reading lots of success stories that 6w is too early for some women to see anything.  Maybe it's false hope, but it's getting me through the waiting game.

BabyFaith, happy to hear the testing came back clear.  Sorry that you missed this cycle.  But maybe the test will have opened those tubes up so that next cycle will be the one for you!!
