So, our daughter is due in about three short weeks and we're all excited to document every little detail of her birth and all the great stuff that comes next. I have noticed that there aren't many GLBTQ/alternative family baby books out there. I found one, but it's design isn't our style. So, does anyone have any suggestions or resources for us?

Second, I think that if we can't find something appropriate, I will go ahead and buy a blank album and create our own book. I have ordered some "traditional" books ('used' and cheap to get ideas) but I wanted to ask other parents for suggestions.

What kind of pages would you have included in your baby book if you were designing it? If I end up making it, I'll have our family trees, a donor info page, a page about her extended and friendship family, and of course, a page about our pets! I want to do a few pages about some of the choices we made- about choosing a donor, choosing our midwife, and about her name etc. Anything you've thought of? We're also talking, not sure if it's realistic or not, about turning this project into an at-home business. Who knows how we'll feel AFTER the baby is here , but I see a need for nice, affordable books that work for our, and other non-traditional, families.

I appreciate any suggestions and I sure hope this is an OK thing to post!

I am heterosexual but . . . . Creative memories has "baby book" pages you can get. I make my own for my dds because I hat that the assumption in them is hospital birth by Dr.

creating your own photo and journaling book is by far the coolest most personal option and avoids the whole wasted space. delima.

The truest answer to violence is love. The truest answer to death is life. The only prevention for violence is for the heart to have no violence within it.  We cannot prevent evil through any system devised by mankind. But we can grapple with evil and defeat it, but only with love—real love.

Check into adoption baby books. (Sorry I don't have any great links at the moment, but you could google it.) They tend to be very flexible for multiple types of families and situations. Ours is in a three ring binder so you can include the relevent pages, and we just used two "mother' pages and discarded the "father" page, for example.

Creating your own seems like a groovy idea. We have a Todd Parr one that includes all kinds of families, but I don't really like it that much (too much 'check the box' and not enough room for writing). It does include adoption, queer families, all kinds of stuff.

I got a great baby book from a WAHM who makes them - you can chose which pages you want - how many parents, which genders, adoption, donor, doctor, midwife, etc. Let me look up the url of the website...

Here you go: http://handmadebabybook.com/

I love it also b.c it's not all pastel or characters or too cutesy. I love our way cool baby book! (Sheesh, I shoudl get a commission, eh?)

You can do some amazing "scrapbooks" online now, for nominal fees. If you have a digital camera, the results can be highly professional. My "regular" pictures from when my kids were born (they're 7 & 4) - some are in books, many are in boxes and now the family's gone completely digital with our photos and videos. I'd highly recommend borrowing a digital camera/vid camera from someone if you don't have one.
Best of luck with your impending birth! I'm a Lamaze educator and doula wishing you all the best.
