For the "day of silence" at my school, we realized that actually being silent wasn't going to get much done around here. Instead, we decided to do a week long film series.

We want to attempt to get one documentary video and/or one "regular" video for each topic:

Gay/Lesbian Parenting (Fatherhood Dreams?)
Trans (Boys Don't Cry? Ma Vie en Rose?)
Bisexual (I can't think of a damn thing)
Coming Out
Misc.
Humor (But I'm a Cheerleader?)

A bit about what we're doing:
Now, when I say "we" I mean myself and one other guy on campus. We have people supporting us, but we seem to end up doing everything ourselves. We're sort of the token OUT people on campus. There's lots of gay students/faculty/staff but we the ones who are really open about it, which is nice, but sort of a lot to throw on somebody. Organizing the week of the DoS has been CRAZY hectic. I managed to pull through sponsoring, but it's been tough. We also got books donated, and I contacted some people in the area willing to lean a couple panel discussions. So, at this point, we need movies.

can I just say that "when night is falling" is my favorite lesbian movie of all time? I lurve it. I lurve it to an extent that is overly cheesy and embarrassing. Love.

and definitely use "But I'm a Cheerleader!" and think about using "Saved!" which has all kinds of love in it and is cheesy and sweet.

Gay/Lesbian Parenting (Fatherhood Dreams?)

- If these walls could talk 2
- We are dad (documentary)
- There's a Spanish movie that I loved, I think it's called Bear Cub, and I think it's all subtitled
- What's that one with Madonna and her gay friend who have a baby together? I don't even know if it's good.

Trans (Boys Don't Cry? Ma Vie en Rose?)

- Boys Don't Cry is way sad.
- Southern Comfort (Documentary) is also way sad.
- TransParent - it's about trans guys who've had kids, and it's kind of talking heads and I don't love it, but it's a seldom told story (documentary)
- Just once, I wish I had a happy trans film to recommend

Bisexual (I can't think of a damn thing)

- Chasing Amy, perhaps?
- When night is falling, maybe?
Each of these deal with themes of a woman in love with a man and a woman or a lesbian identified woman who falls for a man

Coming Out
- The NFB did a documentary on queer teenagers in Canada coming out, I can't remember what it's called, but it's at least a dozen years old. I really liked it. But that was circa 1996 when I was just a wee queerlet myself.

Just off the top of my head. . . .

Oh, and how could I forget? In and Out, or something, circa 1997, with Kevin Klein?

Oh my gosh, I just saw DEBS for the first time over break. It was shown to me in order to "broaden my cultural experience." These are the same friends who showed me "Fear of a Black Hat," "Firefly," "Buffy the Vanpire Slayer," and "L A Story" for the same purpose.

I have others that I don't think anyone mentioned:

coming out while in a heterosexual relationship- Imagine Me and You ( a comedy with Piper Perabo)

Another is Three of Hearts: A Postmodern Family. This is a documentary about a triad family. It is a really good (and sad) film highlighting a family unit that isn't often explored in American culture.

Trembling Before G-d is a fascinating documentary about queers in the Hasidic and Orthodox Jewish communities.

Also, for coming out, Beautiful Thing

French Twist? Here's a wiki link describing the film:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Twist

I haven't seen this movie in a long time, but I loved it when it came out and saw it several times. I should add I am not gay; so I don't know how this movie is viewed by those in the gay community, but as a straight person I thought this movie did a good job of balancing humor with very serious situations. It was light-hearted in parts, very serious and thought provoking in others.
