I find it interesting that I keep getting the same question from people, "are you tired of being pregnant yet?" I don't get it - they act like being pregnant is a disease. Perhaps I have just been lucky - no morning sickness and I still move around pretty well. I actually love being pregnant and feeling my son squirm and move.
: Anyone else getting that question? And how do you respond?

#6 ·
Welcome pigirl! Congratulations too!
: This thread doesn't have quite the same amount of traffic as the TTC thread but we're not adverse to change

Hi and congrats to all of you! Hope each of you is enjoying a happy and healthy pregnancy, wherever you are in the process.

I posted this question to the TTC thread, but thought I might also get some answers from TTC veterans:

My DP may be out of the country when it comes time for us to inseminate (@ home with fresh KD sperm). Have any of you done this solo? Did you use a syringe or a cervical cap? I thought I might try the cervical cap, but it seems like it might be hard to, um, insert and remove.

Thoughts? Advice?

I have made the changes to here.

Pigirl....I was totally reading your username as " Pig Girl" until you posted your BFP. Silly, huh?

Jen....I moved you. Sorry about that. I can't wait for you to get your ass back here with us on this thread.

Ellie....Unfortunately, I do not have any personal experience with doing an insem by myself. But I wish you the absolute best of luck!

I think that's probably the more reasonable way to read it, actually.
I memorized the first couple hundred digits of pi in college, and got the nickname pi girl, but the pigs, they are more commonly discussed than the pi.

And I posted this in my DDC, but I want to post it here too: We had our first doctor's appt this week (I was 4w 4d) and it wasn't what I expected at all. They had me come in to confirm the pregnancy I guess, but they didn't do a blood test; it was just another pee in a cup thing. No hcg numbers, no progesterone numbers. Is that normal? I was expecting a pap, and some quantitative results. They did draw blood for a rubella titer, my blood type, etc. Anyone have any input? My next appt is for 8w 4d.

Thanks.

Yup, this is what happened at my first doctor's appointment. Man, I wanted that beta test and all those pretty numbers! But no, they just had me pee in a cup. As if I hadn't done that at home! I think that if you've been seeing an RE for medicalized inseminations, it's much more common for them to do the blood work, etc. Regular family practice and non-fertility specialists don't seem to do them. I was a nervous wreck about it all, but in the end, I realized that there wasn't a whole lot I could do, regardless of what the numbers might have revealed. I'm sorry, I know this isn't super helpful. The first couple months suck- lots of stress and waiting. But man, I remember the first day I heard baby's heartbeat on the Doppler (9weeks, 2days), and realized that there really was going to be a baby. Amazing.

And as for me, I'm just hanging out, trying to get my apartment, life, etc., ready for baby. I'll be 36 weeks on Monday, which is crazy. I can't believe the end is almost here! Or actually, I guess, the beginning!

My one piece of bummer news is that I tested positive for Group B Strep, which means that my midwife is recommending an IV of penicillin during labor. I'm not really psyched about this, for many reasons. Various studies have shown that only treating high-risk women (early labor, fever, lapse of time between water breaking and labor, etc.) yields the same results as treating everyone, but if I refuse the antibiotics they'll make me stay in the hospital for two extra days to observe baby.
: Anyway, I'm still figuring out what to do, and really, really, really wishing that I were having a homebirth. I *really* don't want to deliver in the hospital, let alone hang out there for days after. Ah, if only I hadn't blown all my money on getting knocked up...

Gotta run, more later, and I'm thinking good labor wishes for KK!

Thanks, folks. We'd been doing IUIs in the OB's office, but they're just regular OBs, not REs. I guess that explains it. I am, as you can tell, a numbers person, and would have liked some nice quantitative results. Ah, well.

In the OMG department-- my boobs have been so sore, yesterday I went out to buy a new more supportive bra. Two drastic changes: 1) my favorite brand no longer makes anything in my (larger) size, 2) I'm a #%! DD now, up from a C. I think a DDD would have fit better, but I'm a small band size and so couldn't find any. DDD!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

#16 ·
pigirl - you might find something here?

Small band size = 28 or so?

I'd tell you about Bravo Bras but they're local, and I don't think that they have a web site. There's a company that always advertises in the back of Mothering magazine, but I can't remember - oh! yes! it's decent exposures.

Good luck, send some breast-growing vibes my way...

Holy crud-- they have the size I need! Thank you! I'm looking for (gasp) 34 DDD. Try finding that in Target. My sister, who's about my size, went up to a G cup when she was nursing. I've never been small-chested, but this is getting ridiculous. Esp. because they're too sore for any real *fun* with them, you know?

I was, for the record, too shy to post this in my DDC.

My boobs are like balloons. The first 8 weeks of pregnancy they were freaking enourmous, then they deflated back to their regular (D cup) size and they're now on their way back up again. I think it's got to do with all the weight I lost in the first trimester - but whatever it is, I'd like them to make up their mind so that I can find myself a bra or two that actually fits for 2 days in a row!

pigirl - I've got a good tipster... a friend of ours is a 36J and can only wear custom, cantilevered bras. No kidding - cantilevered. They cost $60 apiece. Prior to her being able to buy custom bras, she bought retail and she KNOWS where to find 'em!

Have you had a poke around MDC? There's lots of mums with GBS success stories - women who have gone hard on a diet/vitamin/probiotics and something else (???) regime and retested negative prior to labour. It's worth a try methinks.
Can't believe you are so close!!!

Yes, I've done some research. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time left for massive dietary changes, but did try doing several hibiclens douches (which is what homebirth midwives use to treat GBS) and then retesting. I'll find out tomorrow if anything changed. Fingers crossed...

Yeah, I can't believe it's so soon. Crazy! Utterly crazy!

Welcome to all the new members. This can be a bit of a quiet thread sometimes, but I'm really grateful to have this little queer pregnancy support group.

Hi there
I want to play too!!! I'm 4 weeks 2 days and thinking sticky thoughts.

I just realized how much knowledge I've gained about TTC in the last 12 months. I was beginning to feel like an expert with that. So, now that I'm in completely uncharted territory for me, it feels daunting to have so much to learn about pregnancy and birth!

#24 ·
Angela, I can still remember your post: OMG. OMG. Two lines! TWO LINES!!!
And now you're a month away from holding a baby! To that I say: OMG, OMG!!
If I had been faster on the draw I could have given you my beat-the-GBS-test regimen which I took with #1 to beat the test. It came back negative, so either it worked or I was GBSneg to begin with?!

I am just sick of the heat, and tired and cranky. The whole weekend was, unfortunately, little fun. OK, the fireworks were nice, and I really enjoyed walking back from them, pushing our big little guy asleep in the stroller and actually talking to my wife. I feel like we don't have any quality couple time together anymore. She also spent much of the weekend painting half of the trim around the porch windows. I don't envy her the job, I'm glad that she did it and not I. There was just a lot of yelling at our son which always makes me sad. they have such a combative relationship somehow.

Yesterday was 90 (32C) and very humid, and everyone around here is raving about it finally being summer, but yeah, thanks, you can keep your summer heat like this. If I wanted hot like this, I'd live in Texas.

grouse, grouse, grouse.

J?! Cantilevered!? Holy smokes. Nothing like a little perspective to help a girl feel better. (Now I'm imagining, like, the suspension bridge bra, and the flying buttress bra, ...)

Welcome, pranava and Erica!

I know, it's crazy, right? I'm so excited. And, just trying to get my head around what it all means, becoming a parent. Whoa...

Heh heh, douched with hibiclens and retested, and CAME BACK NEGATIVE! My MW wants me to retest in two weeks just to make sure, but I'm assuming that if I repeat my protocol, hopefully I'll retest negative as well.

And yes, it's hot here too. Been spending more time in the pool than cleaning my house. Not ready for baby. Oh well...
