Thanks Astraphell!

I'm still waiting to O, but we just had an insem. I say we, but DP is in another country, so KD came over to make his donation and then it was just little ole me doing the insem. Kinda lonely. But, hopefully it works. KD is coming over again tomorrow and possibly again Wednesday.

How much leakage is okay? It felt like so much tonight, but maybe it wasn't really all that much.

Sounds great to me Coco!

heart-n-bones- I'm not sure of the answer to your question, but I think that the swimmers get to where they need to be going within a half hour of the insemination. So, if you're just lying down for even a little bit afterwards, you should be fine. The other thing someone had suggested to me if I was using a fresh sample was to use the Instead cup to sorta keep things where they needed to be. I never ended up going that route, but it's something to try to help minimize leakage.

Hi! Just checking in for July. Still chuckling over "fertility enemy" from the June thread.

This month I have two business trips during the two week wait, which could work out well and make the time fly. Just hoping my ovulation isn't delayed and I'm not out of town when the egg pops!

Good morning everyone. Just checking in. Thanks, Kate, for the new thread!

We're still sitting in the 2ww. I have no idea if I'm pregnant or not. I have lots of probably-just-in-my-head symptoms. Some moments I totally think I'm knocked up, other times I'm sure it didn't work. My temps are not doing anything abnormal but I'm having cramps (could be pre-AF?) and my boobs hurt (could be progestrone cream). I haven't decided if I'm going to test or just wait for AF. She should be here by Sat. Right now I'm leaning toward testing around Sunday, if AF hasn't arrived. I do not want to see that BFN.

Throw my name in for the 2WW, we tried Friday and Saturday.

Having tried with perfect timing with fresh, I don't know if I will feel like going back to frozen if this doesn't work. It's so hard if you don't have it at your ready disposal like most straight couples....Sometimes I have been more than a little envious of women who are married to fertile men who want lots of kids...Okay, too much , too early in the morning!

Good luck to everyone this week, in your endeavors.

That is so cool that you are both TTC.....I wish that was something we would have considered more because we do want our children close in age if possible. I guess it came down to I'm more of a bystander than my DP so if it works out good for her then then I can do it haha....Good Luck to you both!!!

I'm pretty much out for this cycle, I think. Got a negatory HPT this morning and am going in for a blood test tomorrow am (15 dpo) just to be absolutely sure before stopping the progesterone. At least I can drink some booze at the July 4th bbq.

Good luck to everyone else starting new cycles or waiting it out!!

Any advice on try #2 (with fresh swimmers from our superhuman KD) would be more than welcome!

There's a chance my GF will be out of the country when I O , though. Has anyone out there tried IVI solo? I was thinking of using a cervical cap.

Ellie - My DP is out of the country right now and I'm doing it solo this week. The mechanics went more simply than I anticipated. Last night I think I leaked a little more than the time we did it when DP was here. So, I was just setting up for tonight's round and came up with a set up that kept my pelvis higher and more tilted using the wall to prop my legs. I hope that goes better.

It was lonelier than I anticipated. I was really disappointed not to be sharing it with DP. I cried a little. Plus, it was harder to...ahem... get in the mood.

heart-n-bones - Thanks so much for the tips. : to you! I'm sure I will get anxious and teary too. Maybe the "conception curve" pillow would help: http://thefertilityshop.com/catalog/...roducts_id=162.

Oy, I can just imagine myself with the pillow and the cup of sperm and the vibrator and the crappy porn, trying to make a baby.... If it works, DP will never again be able to claim she does everything around the house!

Just checking in... It has only been 2 1/2 weeks that we have been on a break and I don't know what to do with myself. In the past, although the attempts were unsuccessful at least we were trying, now I feel that opportunities are passing me by. basically because I think that I o'd this weekend. I can't help but thinking what if that was the egg and I missed it. I am just whining I know. I need to find a hobby.

Hello all. First time poster... I am a bit stressed here in Virginia. My wife and I have been doing our best to get registered for at home insemination with the big giant sperm bank here in VA., but cant seem to find anyone to fill out our paperwork! We first went to our primary care physician who said that they couldn’t sign the papers, but referred us to a OB/GYN. The ob/gyn did some preliminary blood work, but said she couldn’t sign the papers because she was not a fertility specialist. I just contacted a local fertility specialist who said she could not help us with at home insemination, but could work with us in the office. Is at home insemination illegal in Virginia, or am I barking up the wrong tree here? The paperwork is supposed to be the easy part, right?

Welcome Jiffyjo. I gew up in Fredericksburg.

Not sure about laws related to home insemination in Virginia. I know you can't do a second parent adoption there, but that's all I know. Good luck in getting the paperwork you need done.

Welcome, Jiffyjo! Sorry for all the run-around you're getting. : Maybe try with a midwife? I've been lucky in that I found a bank that would allow a midwife to sign the paperwork for us for home shipment of the sperm. With another bank that needed a physician's signature, my PCP had no trouble signing off on it. It kind of depends on the bank though. Some will only allow physicians to sign, and others are a little more lenient. Sounds like your doctors are being a little ridiculous...

And not every bank will allow home delivery. The two we are familiar with is Xytex and Midwest. Xytex has a great site and catalog. They have known donors if that is important to you and nice profiles including childhood and adult photos for most donors. They are very expensive though. But they allow our midwife to sign for the home deliveries. Midwest requires a doctor's signature but as quasar said, our PCP signed off no problem. I think she is highly amused by the fact that she is helping lesbians get pregnant. If you are just looking for ICI unwashed samples then a PCP or regular OB/GYN should have no problem signing off on that. If you were looking to try IUI at home, most doctors probably won't go for that. Sometimes you have to explain it to them. Our PCP was confused at first how we could do it ourselves at home. When I explained to her you just put it deep in the vagina with a syringe instead of a penis, the light seemed to go on over her head.

Sorry you are having such problems. Sorry for the long rambling post. I would keep trying doctors and ask your friends if they know any queer doctors. They probably would be more understanding and helpful.

Jiffyjo!

Sorry you're having such a hard time already! I just had my PCP sign the paperwork and it was just fine with our bank. Is there any way you can look for a new provider that is okay with it?

Hi Jiffyjo --

I'm a homebirth midwife who does a lot of fertility work in Michigan, with women who have fertile male partners and women who don't. I have helped a lot of women get set up with sperm banks and found that they do fall into a few distinct groups:

first of all, some allow home ship and some don't. If you can find a friendly midwife (CNM, or sometimes licensed CPM) or OB or other doctor who is willing to take shipment of the tank, then you can do home insem even if you can't get home ship. Two of my clients have had our local bank ship to offices and then picked up the tank for home insem. The local bank doesn't charge shipping, just a courier fee, so it is a lot cheaper for them to do it this way. The bank won't ship to their homes, though. Many of the banks that require a physician's signature don't do home ship, though some do.

Some banks (Pacific and Northwest come to mind) don't require a health care provider and do home ship. Others (xytex, fairfax, california cryo, sperm bank of california, midwest) will work with licensed midwives and do home ship. Xytex will work with an unlicensed midwife if they are convinced she does fertility work routinely. Many small local banks do not ship to the home.

Have you considered asking a homebirth midwife? They are licensed in VA now, which means that they can work with some of the banks listed above. Even if a homebirth midwife doesn't have experience inseminating, they can sometimes be helpful with some of these logistical hoops.

Good luck!

Stacia -- intrepid mama, midwife, and doula. Changing the world one 'zine at a time.
