Does anybody know of a free pattern (or know how to) sew a sphere? I want to make some cloth playfood for DD - thought by sewing balls in different colors and sizes, with minimal embellishment I could craft apples, oranges, lettuce, melons, etc. Does asnybody know how I can sew spheres?

a dear friend made this for ds. ive seen the pattern at quilt shops, its called a puzzle ball. its prettm much just a bunch of 5 sided shapes. its sewn in 2 halves, each one is one piece surrounded by 5, then the 2 halves sewn together. i can see she did it all by hand, but im sure a machine would be okay too.
i love it as this quilty look. im not sure if its really what youre talking about. i guess you could do them all the same color to make apples etc..
but... if thats what youre really wanting to do, i bet theres an easier way than sewing so many pieces of the same color.
maybe youll have a bright idea though, wed love to see when youre finished!
good luck!!

What a cute ball! I think something like that would be really cute as 'fruit'. Thanks for the photo - I bet I can recreate something like that.

Here's free instructions for a ball with 6 sections:

And here is a sweet lady that makes fruit and veggie pincushions that would work for play food and I think she has a pattern for them available too.

Those pincushions are adorable! Does she sell them? (is that ok to ask? ) lol I'm going to have try to make something like that. Lettuce would be fun, you could use felt for the ball then make detachable "leaves" w/ velcro.
