I didn't buy a sling until DD was about 5 months old. I've only used it a few times. It kills my back/shoulders! I have to be wearing it wrong. I did not feel comfortable in it at all and felt like she was going to fall out in any minute. I feel like I have tightened it as tight as I can get it, but she does not feel close to me. (Hip carry) It's hard to figure out how to wear it because I don't know anyone who uses one and it's hard to tell by pics online. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is there any way I can fix it so it doesn't hurt my back? DD is 8 months old and about 16lbs.

Or does anyone else have any other carrier recomedations? I don't have a lot of $$ to spend, but will sell my sling on Ebay if I can find something better. I wanted to get a Moby Wrap, but DH thinks they look "stupid". Urgh. TIA.

Oh, or what about a pouch? What do you think of those?

I had the same problem when I first got my sling. I think the best thing would be to find someone who can show you how to adjust it. I learned from someone at a La Leche League meeting. There are always a lot of babywearing mamas there. If you have a group near you I would suggest calling the leader to ask if she thinks there would be people there who could show you, then go to the next meeting. It's kind of funny because it seems so simple and obvious to me now, but almost everyone I know has trouble figuring it out at first.

What kind of sling are you using?

Where are you placing the sling on your shoulder?
Is it spread out across your back?
How low/high are you wearing your baby?

Maybe you could try going to the Maya Wrap website. You can download video there that shows how to wear the sling.

Good luck!

I think those are all my problems I've been reading a bit and I've decided on selling the sling and buying a Mei Tai. Any buyers? LOL

A ring sling is a handy thing to have for a quick hip carry. I second the rec to watch the MW video. And look at this:
