I really want a wrap but the ones I want are $$$...it seems to me that it'd be super easy to make one..just get the right length of fabric, hem the edges, sew on a pocket in the middle (like a Hug A Bub) and I would have a wrap for way less.

Am I missing something?

You're missing www.mamatoto.org, the perfect companion for wrap making mamas! They have detailed instructions on the site for how to make a wrap... basically just get about 5 yards of fabric (crinkle cotton/gauze works well), make sure it's between 30-45 inches wide, serge or sew (or tie the ends with elastic as per mamatoto). There you go! I have three wraps made at home, and they work really well! They are what I use to carry my dd most of the time.

Enjoy!

Another fabric you can try is interlock/jersey. I did that and it's a wonderful, super comfy, stretchy wrap. Right now, this is my favourite carrier!

I agree with thismomma, www.mamatoto.org is the best site for teaching how to use wraps and slings! It's wonderful. It was so easy for me to learn how to make my own wrap. I got 6 yards of fabric, hemmed the ends, and was wearing my baby in minutes. I love my wrap and I'm so glad I found that site!
