Okay, I'm DYING over here in the heat!! :LOL

What is the coolest type carrier? Anyone wanna help me?

So far my freehand is pretty cool, my podegi is a heavy hemp and smothers us, and my slings are mostly soooo hot. I have a nice thin cotton pouch, but she won't sleep in it and it's a bit too big so not secure enough until I get around to fixing the sizing. I love the freehand, but even it is too hot this week! WAHHHH!!!

What's the coolest fabric? Coolest style?

Are wraps hot? I want to try one, but all that material scares me...

My fleece pouch is sooo comfy but I'll die of heat if I wear that out. :LOL

I should say, my baby girl is an OVEN!! *lol* I don't know how someone so little can make so much HEAT. My DS didn't make me so hot when I wore him...

I miss winter... :

Sadly I don't think anything is cool enough for Houston summers.

What about one of those tai one on's? I think it would be hard for that to be hot but I wouldnt imagine it would be good for small babies. I was also thinking a mesh sling or carrier would be great.

I tried on a Gypsy Mama gauze wrap at a b'wearing group today and it was lovely and cool. Any baby-pressed-against-you action is going to be hot, though, even with no sling.

I just ordered a Gypsy Mama Gauze Wrap to use this summer I've seen them in person and I think the fabric would be wonderful in the heat! I have a Freehand and that's ok in the heat because its got a relatively small body, but I think the Gypsy Mama will be a bit better.

I'm thinking that any carrier is going to be pretty freaking hot in this weather! Mei tais or the gauze wrap are probably the best bets but I think they are still going to be hot. I've been using my solarveil ring sling for the sun protection and it is definitely cooler than my cotton slings.

I remember last summer when we went to Kauai, I used my KK Solarveil Ring Sling and it was great. Yes, we still stuck to one another, but it was so light and airy.

Late this afternoon around 2ish, we went to the local Farmer's Market and I used my Oopa and it was also very lightweight. But it was also only in the low 70's : .

Good Luck~

I just got a solarveil sling and it is awesome and really cool (it was 30+ degrees here today and I wore him alll day)

Since it reflects the UV rays it really does work to make it cooler..

I also second the gauze wrap idea!

I have a Gypsy Mama gauze wrap - it's very light and good for hot weather. Plus it's GORGEOUS!

I agree, when it's hot out (which I do NOT deal well with), wearing clothes is too much for me, much less a child. :LOL

That said, I'd agree a gauze wrap, solarveil sling or blanketless mei tai might be your best bet. Or a cotton pouch with no padding (that fits, of course ).

Honestly, when full-on summer hits, I don't want anyone to touch me, so I'm not looking forward to this myself.

Good luck to us all!

I love the look of the blanketless Nine Acre Mei Tai, but wonder how it is for spinal safety. It appears that the babes' legs are hanging Bjorn style with weight not correctly dispersed.

Thoughts?

I vote for solarveil! The open weave is great at keeping you both cool and when it's breezy it goes right through. I love it! You can get a pouch, sling or mei tai made with this material.

That looks SO AWESOME!!! Brilliant!

Other than that, stay in the water or inside as much as you can. I'm from Houston - MAN I hate it in summer, and I'm spending a week there next week. Where's the melting icon? Solarveil is my favorite summer sling.

Strip your baby down to his diaper and go topless yourself!
It is VERY hot here in PA (around 85 + humidity) and today I wore DS in my Indio Didy without a shirt on and I actually felt comfortable!! And the best part it - nobody could tell I had nothing on.

All the pictures I see look like the baby is in a more seated position.. they do adress the isse on the description saying that the lightly padded straps keep them in a seated position perfect for a developing spine (not a direct quote)

An Onbuhimo is another good summer option, since it's not a lot of fabric. The one from Peppermint.com I know has a very small body, and it has a removable headrest for smaller babies.

I was so bummed out today when dd wanted to be carried (high of 90; we have no air conditioning) so I tried the strap carry on mamatoto and dd and I loved it. I ended up using a 2 foot wide strip of a stained sheet to get rid of extra fabric bulk, and we were both pretty happy, although the biggest perk for her seemed to be that she could get her fist in her mouth.

So who makes good solarveil pouch slings? I had a GM water sling but sold it b/c I just couldn't get Ian in it. : He would struggle & fight & I would never get it tied adequately. So I use a pouch sling or a MT.

I just don't like the feel of Solarveil. It's scratchy, hard and not comfy to wear!

I MUCH prefer my sling set. Mmmm. Sling Set. Mmmmm, now that's a cool cool summer sling. Heck, its' a great any time of year sling!

Only the cheap ones, lol. They come in several fabrics, but the all-cotton with the open, crinkle-stretch kind of weave are the nicest.

My favorite hot weather sling was a tester from http://www.zolowear.com. I think it was made of some sort of synthetic that wicks sweat away or something. It is not scratchy at all, it is smooth, but I do not think it is solarveil. It is cool and light and has lightweight rings.

I have no idea if Zolowear makes them as a regular product, but it is still my favorite sling (I live in Texas and know about carrying a hot sweaty baby in the sweltering heat). I do know that zolowear has a mesh solarveil sling, but mine is not exactly mesh, it is smooth.

:LOL

So you thought!

I'm also laughing at the idea of 85 degrees being very hot up there in Pennsylvania. Seriously, we consider that to be a cold front here in Texas at this time of the year.

No joke. I'm in NW Louisiana and I thought I was going to die today. I think our high was 99 degrees. That's hot! I have friends over in England that are complaing when they hit 30 Cent. I think that's like 86 degrees or something.

For this super hot weather I either use the strap carry or my Kozy with natural straps. I have a GypsyMama Gauze, but I still find all that fabric hot. My MeiTai Baby is black, so it just makes me swealter!
