I just moved to California from Colorado and boy do I need a different baby carrying stash! My son is 4 1/2 months old and previously we loved our Over the Shoulder Baby Holder and my Moby. For some reason my ds doesn't seem to love the Ergo, yet.

Today I went out to walk ds#2, in order to put ds#1 to nap and so I had to carry ds#2. We used the Over the Shoulder and he got a faceful of sun and we both were dripping sweat by the time ds#1 was asleep. Then later I wore ds#2 in my Moby and that was a real sweat fest.

Any ideas for good - cooler and providing some shade- baby carriers?

you could try a solarveil pouch or ring sling. www.karmababy.com has some cute reversible (so, two-color) solarveil pouches.

Funny you should mention Karmababy. I had forgotten about it, but it was started by someone who used to be in my AP group in Colorado! Thanks for reminding me.

Yep...solarveil or gauze carriers are probably the way to go. There are ringslings, pouches and MTs made of solarveil. There are wraps made out of gauze. www.gypsymama.com has a great gauze wrap. You could also try a lightweight, light-colored Mei Tai, but that won't give you much coverage from the sun.
