I'm really excited about trying a Moby Wrap next spring for my new baby, and I like the look of the ones that have the contrasting panel in front, but I know it's unstretchy material. So I'm looking for those who've tried both or one or the other - which did you like better?
Also, if anyone tried the Moby and didn't like it and has a recommendation for another type of stretchy wrap for a newborn, please feel free to tell me about it!
Wraps aren't my favourite carrier in general, so take this with a grain of salt. I've tried both the Moby and the Moby D. I like the Moby because I find it's easier to get baby in, but I find that the stiff panel on the Moby D let's me tighten it better - with the Moby, he feels like he's slipping down and I'm always readjusting. Plus, the Moby D panels are really nice - one thing I never liked about the plain wrap is that I felt like I look disshevelled all wound up in that long fabric, esp. with baby out. The red silk is a really pretty look - I like the lilac too, but the ends are lilac and I think they'd just get grungy after a while.
But, I'm a big pouch and mei tai fan, so take the comments for what they are worth.
my moby when DD was a newborn. I ended up with 2 because otherwise I'd be lost for the 3 hours that the other was in the laundry/dryer on wash day.
I have only had a regular moby, but I've heard exactly what pp said about the moby D panels -- harder to pop a little baby into and out of, but maybe more supportive when the baby gets heavier. And of course they are very pretty.
I've never used any other stretchy wrap, but it seems to be well looked-upon in the strechy wrapping community.
The one I hear even more positive things about is the Gypsy Mama stretchy wrap, but TBH I just liked the plain colors of the moby better, so that's what I went with!
I like a original Moby better than Moby d. If you want something woven, go for an all woven wrap. If you want a stretchy for a little tiny one, go for all stretchy like a regular Moby. The extra 20 isn't worth it imo.
I think the woven panel allows the Moby D to be used for longer. I personally haven't had any problems with the poppability, because the fabric Xs are what you pop baby in and out of and the cummerbund where the woven panel ends up is more for support/getting everything in place if that makes sense. I think for support my preference is for the woven panel ones and not for the fleece or silk panel ones.
Either way, I think the key is getting it on well in the first instance -- going through and tightening up the rails, making sure the fabric is flat on your back and across your shoulders -- before tying the knot. The stretchy material is very grippy and doesn't really allow good tweaking once it's on.
