I already have a KK pouch and neither DD nor I are fans of it. I do not want to give up on babywearing but I can't spend much more trying to find something that works for us. I think I now am going back and forth between a Moby and a mai tei of some kind. I guess the most important feature is going to be able to take the baby in and out relatively easily. When DD wants out, she wants out NOW! I would mostly be using tummy to tummy and facing out holds. Advice?
Well, a Moby isn't going to last you your whole babywearing career, but a mei tai will, so that would be my vote for value for the money. Most babies outgrow Mobys between 15-20 pounds, and they are on the warm side.
Forward facing out is possible in mei tais, but it's not really the best position to get your dd used to, quite honestly. It's not as ergonomic for you because her limbs and head are dragging towards the ground away from your body rather than going towards your body.
It's better to let baby see the world by turning sideways so you can both look at things together, and/or learning how to do a back carry so she can see over your shoulder. The mei tai is great for back carries, so it will just increase your wearing options by a lot over the Moby.
We have both a baby hawk & a moby & DD loves them both. both are easy to put her it and take her out. If I could only have 1 I would probably choose the Baby Hawk b/c it can be used longer.
For easy in/out, I'd definitely go for a mei tai over the Moby, or a buckle carrier (like Beco, ERGO or the pikkolo).
