I think a nurse-in at Rockefeller Plaza where they shoot the crowds outside the Today Show is in order!

Can somebody post a thread to provide contact information for The Today Show?  How outrageous.

No problem. I hope all nursing mothers get a public apology from this misguided woman.

Savannah, a very impressive journalist and interviewer and legal correspondent, has a point.  Do breastfeeding mothers have a desire to show this aspect of their personal interaction with their children in public for some reason other than demonstrating some titillating show or making some political point?  Is it really necessary?  Are they so totally restrained from finding a private place to do this?  Is it inconvenient?  Do they need to share this experience with the public?

I see the point that Savannah is making, and I agree with her analogy.  Wouldn't it be nice to accept the sight of a man urinating on the closest tree as just a normal course of nature?  After all, the dogs do it and that is acceptable.

You critics who believe that the maternal thing is so sacred that you need to flex your breast muscles to make a political point have no point.  Just slip into a private place to do your breast-feeding business.  And I will continue to seek a private urinal to do my business.

Hahaha Jelliottf that's some pretty good trolling!

Do breastfeeding mothers have a desire to show this aspect of their personal interaction with their children in public

It's not a personal interaction. It's lunch.

for some reason other than demonstrating some titillating show or making some political point?

Sure, I can think of some other reasons! 1) Your kid is hungry; 2) Wherever you are is the nearest and therefore most convenient locale.

Is it really necessary?

Yup. Surprisingly, kids really do need to eat.

Are they so totally restrained from finding a private place to do this?

Sure, sometimes I am restrained from finding a private place. I've breastfed while in the grocery aisle. I have a whole cart full of groceries, there's no getting out of the line until I ring up all my groceries, pay for them, and then take them to my car. That's about 15 minutes away; baby hungry now. Well, I guess we're eating now, while in line.

Sometimes I'm not "restrained" from finding a private place, but I don't, because why would I?

Is it inconvenient?

To find somewhere private to go feed the baby? Yes it is. Is it inconvenient for you to look away? Not really.

Do they need to share this experience with the public?

After reading your post, I kind of feel like, yes, we do need to share it with the public, and more often.

If breastfeeding in public is comparable to urinating in public, then bottle feeding in public is comparable to waving around a dildo in public.

The other comparison I hear is that breastfeeding is incest.  If breastfeeding is incest, then bottle feeding is beastiality.

People need to get over it.
