My ob put me on hydrochlorothiazide (50mg/day) because of my blood pressure and swelling. I was 8 lb OVER my pre-delivery weight (as in, I lost no weight at delivery and actually gained more) when I went in to get my staples out of my incision. My blood pressure was 170/88.

Sooo, it's working and I'm peeing like a mad fool.

He wants me on it till August 18 at my next appt and then we're going to probably go off of it if my bp is okay again and the fluid is gone.

I was researching this and it looks like this drug can decrease breastmilk output. I'm obviously very early postpartum (5 days) and I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my milk supply.

So far, I'm fine, and I'm actually pumping off excess (at least 12 ounces a day).

I just want to know if anyone has been on this drug and if it affected your supply?

No advice, but if you're still pumping extra, that's a good sign.

I was also heavier for the first week after my c/s. I was so swollen that I couldn't even wear shoes home from the hospital, my slippers were skin tight. My doctor never put me on anything (but then again, my bp never rose). My swelling went away on the 3rd week.

As the other poster said, as long as you are able to pump excess, I'd have to say that is a great sign.

Thanks for teh input guys. I'm going to keep pumping a few times a day just for the extra stimulation and keep an eye on things... I hope to be off of it on Aug 18th

It's working very well though! My fluid is really dropping fast... I had about 40 lb of water weight from the end of pg.
