I just thawed some breastmilk from May '04, I haven't given Vicente a bottle in about 2 months (my boy is 6 months now, btw) but I am starting work part time this week and he'll be staying with daddy for a couple of hours a week, so I wanted to make sure he still remembered how to take a bottle of ebm, (well, apparently he did, since he swallowed 6 oz in 2 minutes) anyway, I took out two 3 oz. glass containers and the oldest one (from may) had kind of a metallic smell. he drank it ok, but I didn't know if metallic meant bad. Does anyone know if that means that the milk has gone bad?

Hey Momma, I found this page about nasty tasting breast milk
http://parents.berkeley.edu/advice/n...sstasting.html
my ds wouldn't take ebm from a bottle. I tried giving it to him once and he threw a fit. I smelled it and it smelled AWFUL. I hope this helps!

Thank you!!! I wanted to name him something original, but it turns out there are a lot of Liams. I think what drew me to it was I had never met or heard of an UN-cool Liam, you know? haha ha ha! By the way, my grandfather's name is Vincente!!!

really? wow, I have met one other Vicente in the US but that's about it (and that Vicente is chilean too, :LOL) I still think Liam is pretty uncommon. not in england, perhaps, but Vicente is not uncommon in Chile either. (pretty common, I would say)

Definitely sounds like a high-lipase issue to me. Scalding will take care of it, and although it kills off some of the good stuff, if your baby is primarily breastfed it doesn't matter, one bottle of scalded breastmilk is still more nutritious and easier to digest than a bottle of formula!

Some babies will drink the milk without a problem even if it smells gross to us - it won't hurt them at all. Also, when I was pumping, some bottles would have this problem but not all - so don't throw out your entire freezer stash just yet!
