I felt this needed a new thread. I wonder why this is more acceptable than this

There is something wrong with a society that feels that way. Does anyone want to get with me to put together a site? Directed at the NIP issues of right now. It can be used to promote NIP & help disolve attitudes that breasts for sex, advertising & skimpy attire is OK, but NIP is not. I would need writers & such. I can design & maintain the site. Anyone??? I have a great idea for the site name, BTW. Not going to spill that yet though, lol.

Good idea,jen.

Maybe we could send pics to media, too. Perhaps show a woman nursing her baby discreetly(as most of us would try to do in public) and then show pics of people we see around town? We could block out their features(ala Glamour magazines "do's and don'ts) so they're unrecognizeable other than their outfits. That might work for the website,as well.

Are you thinking of something similar to this website? www.007b.com I find it's an interesting resource. The goal of the site is similar to the goal of what you're thinking up. To de-sexualize the breast. Afterall, breasts can be sensual, but they also have a fantastic utilitarian purpose.

Close. I think it could be a good place for media to be refered to when there are nurse ins or such. We could have a committe of people willing to organzie info, pics & links. We can all donate our time for it.

Whoohoo! I contacted waters web & she is willing to generously donate domain & hosting if we can get something together. It will be able to handle high traffic with no problem also.

We are in need of a centralized website. There are plenty on breastfeeding geared to moms wanting to BF. We need a site geared to media & representatives. So they may be informed. Nothing over zelous, but to educate & change minds.

Here's what I think would be an excellent picture for a website:

A woman sitting nursing a baby in a mall right in front of a victoria's secret. I don't know about other victoria's secrets, but the one in my mall always has a huge poster right in the window of a barely covered model. I think the comparison between the two in the SAME picture would be awesome.

The next step is we need people to supply content & work with me to get the site up & running. Articles, news, photos, etc. I have a very open schedule. So if people can write stuff so I can paste it in my HTML processor, it will save me time. Once I get people willing to help we can get it rolling pretty fast.

A page with links to news & articles about "The Views", bad views. ie media coverage.

Link to LLL, nurse-in & other good BF sites.

A page with links to legislation & laws in each state.

A good place to link to all the other quality BF info.

I can write a bit...think I could manage a press release for sure...gather information...absolutely...just tell me what you are looking for and I will help.

I think it would be interesting to see how differently bfing is viewed in other countries as opposed to North America...most North Americans seem to think it's primitive tribes in the deepest jungles that bf in public but "civilised" countries just don't do that...totally untrue of course...

Can you write?
Replying to you here since the other thread is currently closed (and it is more appropriate here anyway)

I'm an OK writer. Here's the letter I just sent to our local newspaper. Not sure if they'll publish it or not, but figured it was worth a shot.

Quote:
I’m sure most of your readers could agree that there are few things more beautiful to witness than a mother feeding her child. I wonder how many of them change their minds if she is using her breast instead of a plastic bottle.

Nursing mothers around the country are becoming increasingly determined to satisfy their hungry children wherever they are. On Monday June 6th, about 200 nursing moms nursed outside ABC studios in New York to protest disparaging remarks made by hosts of the daytime show “The View”. As more moms get tired of the discrimination, you may see a nursing mother at the mall, at the park or even in your local restaurant. Strangely enough, there is a lot of opposition to nursing in public by society in general.

When questioned, many of these same people will agree that breastfeeding is the best nutrition for a child. There are numerous physical, mental, and emotional benefits for both the mother and the child in a nursing relationship. In fact the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life, and continued breastfeeding for at least the first year.

Why then are women scorned for daring to nurse in public? Why do people not even look twice if they see a baby being fed from a bottle, but demand that women who are nursing should do so in private, or in the restroom? Do you enjoy eating your meals in the public restroom? I certainly don’t.

What about using a blanket to cover yourself? Despite drawing even more attention to what you’re doing, and how hot a blanket draped over your body is, things are not that simple. If any of your readers have ever tried to hold a squirming, hungry child, while trying to lift their shirt, unclip the nursing bra and position the child, all without seeing what they’re doing, I’m sure they’ll agree that this is an almost impossible task. Even if you manage to get it right, odds are that the child will think this is a great time to play Peek-a-Boo.

Besides, most nursing mothers I know are very discreet. We don’t particularly want to flash our naked breast to the whole world.

Is it really too much to ask that women be left to nurse in public, in peace. If you are that offended by what you’re seeing, please feel free to turn away. It won’t bother us at all.

Regards
Samantha XXXXXX
Proud nursing mother to Millicent age 9 months.

I also think we should get a male perspective...everyone is so sure that the men are uncomfortable with bfing in public yet every negative comment I have ever heard was from a woman...maybe men are more comfortable with it than we think...I know most of the men I know wouldn't bat an eye at it.

Basically any information or articles, etc that promote NIP & show that it is natural & normal. How we in US are backwards & view breasts as sex objects, instead of thier intended purpose of nurishing our children. Breast can fullfill BOTH rolls without degrading women or thier breasts. Info on other contires Views of NIP would be great! Esp the ones about women in Islam (I think, forgive me if I am wrong), that are covered head to toe, but can bare a breast to feed a child anywhere. We want NIP & BF normalized!

What a wonderful idea! I would love a page on mens/fathers quotes on the NIP & BF!

will get a quote from my husband no problem...

I was thinking further about this..men are uncomfortable sometimes(as are women of course) when they see a nursing mother...I think it's because they don't see it often and just are not sure what the appropriate response is..if they look someone may think they are a pervert so they immediately look away....maybe we could make suggestions on how a person should respond if they see a child bfing...of course not the ones that give angry glares( I think they are pretty hopeless) just the ones who are "uncomfortable". A smile,e eye contact an and approving nod would be perfect but maybe most just don't quite know this.

eta...also advice to new dads/partners from experienced dads/partners who are comfortable with their own partners bf/NIP...takes a lot of slashes to be inclusive and I am still unsure if it makes sense :LOL

I need anything to further promote NIP as a normal thing.

I am working on an article about lactophobia and I can get a quote from my husband. I think we should try to get the articles published in major newspapers and magazines (reader's digest, etc.), (not just parenting mags).

Along with the article about what men can do, how about articles about what to do if you have a nursing mother as a house guest, things you can say if you aren't the nursing mom being persecuted in a public place, but want to stick up for her. I'll see what I can do besides the lactophobia article (didn't that word get coined by and MDC mama - can we get her permission to use it?)

Do you (or someone else) know how to contact Celebs that have BF about quotes or support. I know Lucy Lawless, Gwenteh Paltrow, Cindy Crawford, Elle McPherson, Jerry Hall, Faith Hill, Jodie Foster & Catherine Zeta-Jones? We could use a contact letter for that.

Sounds great! I know words can't be tradmarked or copyrighted, so it should be no problem. Maybe just out of courtesy we could ask though.
