I too am glued to the computer waiting for an update. I would expect the OP is super busy right now, I know she will let us know what is happening when she can.

I am outraged she and her sister have to deal with this right now, on top of a 17 month old with cancer. At a place that should be a safe haven. It is so heartbreaking. I hope if anything good comes out of it the OP doesn't feel so alone and is supported in such a difficult time. I hope she continues to update us on her nephews treatment and progress too. I hope this ordeal is the hardest part and all else goes very well.

Every time I check the computer, I see bluegreenturtle's name under the link...I keep forgetting that's because SHE POSTED IT...not because she's the LATEST post......ARGH!!! I get all excited and then go ooh...dang. I actually had to go out of the house to stop my compulsive computer checking..we drove to Cici's and picked up some pizza/brownies (told ya I needed some brownies) and came home..1st thing I did? Threw the boxes on the ground and checked the computer Gosh I hope all is going well..

Yeah I can't wait to hear the results.

Whoever was calling hotels, that was a really great idea. If this doesn't get resolved at least we can try to help find them another place to stay. They were paying only $15 a day at the RMH, so if we can find them alternate lodging for about that much, it'd be great. I wonder if there are any Houston-area MDC families that would let them stay there?

I also think it's a good idea for those of us who do fundraise and donate to let them know we will be giving our money to more breastfeeding-friendly organizations that follow the law.

Someone has already found them a hotel that will give a very deep discount if this is unresolved.

Just talked to the RMH at Riley in Indianapolis. They have no official policy, and had not heard anything about this whole event until I called. The staffer I talked to said they've never had an issue and that in her 3 year on site she's never had an issue because all of the moms who do it there are discreet and it' not really noticable, etc. She said they provide in room pump and a seperate pumping area as well and have never had problems on those fronts either. She kind of balked when questioned regarding if it would be correct to say that they would not intervene in the case of EBF over a year old, said to call in the a.m. and talk to the director. So I"ll do that. But that's the official word on this end.

And yeah, I'm waiting with baited breath as well...

Well, I wrote my letter, fwiw, and let them know that my business cannot in good faith support a charity that holds nursing mothers in such poor regard.

Just a modifiedartist.gif trying to find some peace and regain my balance.

I called and left messages with Naomi, corporate, and called the TX dept of health as well and expressed my concerns.

Thanks for standing up for nursing moms. This is way bigger than just a RMH issue.

My wife and I are hoping your nephew heals quickly, and this travesty is resolved soon.

If any donations are needed, we would be happy to help out as well.

Ah, yes, and I see someone else has offered her home already.

Let's just hope the hotel doesn't have any issues with them nursing in the lobby!!

My sister in Atlanta sent an email, she sent it to me for review...here it is..I'm so proud

(It's titled: Breastfeeding leaving a foul taste in your mouth? I suggest you read up on Texas Law)

Quote:
To Whom It May Concern ( To any in your establishment fond of corrupting the laws set in place to protect us from ignorance):

It has come to my attention that a few members of your staff at the Ronald McDonald House of Houston have taken it upon themselves to interpret Texas Health & Safety Code § 165.002, which clearly states:
Sec. 165.002. Right to Breast-Feed. A mother is entitled to breast-feed her baby in any location in which the mother is authorized to be.

Suggesting that a nursing mother is not allowed into a communal area because other rooms are provided follows a discriminatory stance that has not been attempted since the Jim Crowe laws. Or so most thought...
As a prominent and active member of numerous charities here in Atlanta, Georgia, I will be forwarding all information regarding this situation to the xyz, xyz, and the Atlanta chapters of xyz, xyz, and xyz.

I encourage all involved to fully educate themselves on the above law and act accordingly and will be looking forward to a positive resolution to this case.

Sincerely, my sister
Atlanta, Georgia
