I guess I never have. Hm. That's pretty good for nursing 7+ years straight! My SIL said that it's because I just have so much confidence about it and I'm so comfortable when I whip it out and nurse, that other people are comfortable too. I don't know if that's true, but it was nice of her to say. :

None here. In fact, many of my nip experiences have been notably positive. Lots of people smiling, thumbs up, a few older women praising me.

Once a man sitting next to me in a cafe adjusted the blanket I was trying to keep over ds's head.

And one time at the playground a very young mom approached me and said she was so glad to see another woman nursing in public, it made her feel not so weird.

No problems. BF my DD for 22 months- NIP'd all over.
Now bf DS who is 7 weeks.
Just last night DH, DD DS and I were out for dinner with DH's old boss.
DS got hungry. We were sitting in the bar-restaurant was full.
So as I sat on the bench seat side of the table-under a huge bright light I NIP'd.
DS kept popping off every 2-7 seconds. Finally looked at the ex-boss who was watching-said that he was going to get nipple flashes and that I was sorry (while laughing)
He laughed and said it wasn't anything he hadn't seen before.
I though for sure someone nearby would say something and I was prepared-but it went smoothly. YAAY!

I honestly have never had a bad NIP experience before : I'm really very glad, because I'm not the sort that can think of something to say on the spot if someone is bugging me...(then I'll go home and think of 20 great things I could have said ) I think I've gotten a few hairy eyeballs before but never any comments or situations.

Never. I have recently had to nurse my worked-up, close to bedtime, 2 3/4 year old while I teach knitting classes. I just warned the (very welcomign and kind) women I was teaching that they were going to see a lot more of my nipples than I would have thought a knitting class would contain. They laughed. Then i remembered that two of them worked in health care, and I said, "well hey, I guess given your jobs, if the body parts you see aren't oozing or suppurating, it's all good right?"

I nursed DD1 for 20 months and dd2 is 15 months and still going strong. I can't think if a time when I've been given a hard time.

The only NIP problems I've had are with myself being too shy to do it. Not because I was worried about what people would think, but because I was unskilled and large chested enough to feel comfortable nursing in public. I have gone to a few restrooms, and back to the car to nurse just so I would be more comfortable with a newborn who popped off and on a lot before getting a good latch. In the early days I felt like I practically needed to be topless to get the kid to latch!

Nope. Only positives! Especially from old men Seriously though, they're always really supportive! I have been told more times than I can count by 60 something men that I'm doing the best for my baby.

Me! 5.5 years now with a 1.5 year break...never a comment, nor an untoward glance that I noticed. I even had one mama come say "thanks for NIP!" And I'm NOT intentionally discrete either

I've nursed everywhere - planes, grad school class, the zoo, museums, the beach, you name it...also in lots of different regions of North America...Alaska, through Canada, ND, IA, IL, OH, IN, AZ, CA...

As the saying goes, "anytime my baby's hungry, anywhere I am!"

i was never good at being a discreet nurser, i actually would pull my breast out of my shirt to nurse for the most part, as i got cold if i lifted up my shirt. (we live in cold minnesota). i breastfed my son in public until he was over 4. no bad comments ever. not one that i can recall.

I've never had anyone say anything to me or look at me funny.
I have nursed in Starbucks when DH had a job there and even plopped myself right down in music store in the mall once when DD was little baby.

I love this thread.

Nope, I never had a bad experience. I DO have three lovely moments when three very different strangers shared beautiful positive comments with me.

One of them was when I was nursing my no longer infant at the playground. A man walked by and shouted out "good for you!". I was never sure if he meant for nursing at all, nursing at the playground, or nursing a toddler at the playground, but I'll take them all!
