I was nursing DD2 (13.5m) at the playground today. Another little girl appearing slightly older than my DD1 (so probably 3.5-4ish), came up and sat next to me. We then had the following exchange:

Her: What is the baby doing?
Me: Nursing. It's how she gets her milk.

Then she just sat next to me and watched until DD2 got too distracted (like, a minute later ).

Simple and quiet. Above all ordinary and normal.

Nessa, DD1 (5) DD2 (3) & expecting again in late February/early March!

That's so sweet. My babysitter's daughter just turned four, and she loves to sit there and watch me nurse. Very normal, everyday, that's what babies do kind of an experience. It's nice because her mom is pregnant, and very pro-BF, so she's seeing what it's like and it won't be a surprise. She makes the cutest comments all the time, just really simple observing statements about how babies drink milk from their mamas boobs. Once she said that she can't nurse because she doesn't have boobs yet, but she'll drink lots of (cows) milk and when she grows up it'll come out of her boobs for her baby to drink.

Jen, journalist, policy wonk, and formerly a proud single mama to my sweet little man Cyrus, born at home Dec. 2007 . Now married to my Incredibly Nice Guy and new mama to baby Arthur.
