i sang this to dd last night as she was falling asleep

They say, "Oh, poor girl, you're so beautiful you know
It's a shame that you cover up your beauty so."
She just smiles and graciously responds reassuringly,
"This beauty that I have is just one simple part of me.
This body that I have, no stranger has the right to see.
These long clothes, this shawl I wear, ensure my modesty.
Faith is more essential than fashion, wouldn't you agree?

This hijab,
This mark of piety,
Is an act of faith, a symbol,
For all the world to see.
A simple cloth, to protect her dignity.
So lift the veil from your heart to see the heart of purity.

They tell her, "Girl, don't you know this is the West and you are free?
You don't need to be opressed, ashamed of your femininity."
She just shakes her head and she speaks so assuredly,

"See the bill-boards and the magazines that line the check-out isles, with their phony painted faces and their air-brushed smiles?
Well their sheer clothes and low cut gowns are really not for me.
You call it freedom, I call it anarchy."

This hijab,
This mark of piety,
Is an act of faith, a symbol,
For all the world to see.
A simple cloth, to protect her dignity.
So lift the veil from your heart to see the heart of purity.
Lift the veil from your heart and seek the heart of purity.

She woke up, at six a.m.
telling me she’d been out with friends
and I let her lie I let her lie

And in the glare of the morning sun
she swore I was the only one
and I let her lie I let her lie

Chorus
Cause the truth was too hard to handle
and I couldn’t bare to lose that girl.
We were that small town scandal,
but she was my only world

One teary night, she confessed her sins
but she vowed to never cheat again
and I let her lie I let her lie

Though she tried lord, she could not change
And I only have myself to blame
Cause I let her lie I let her lie

Chorus:
Cause the truth was too hard to handle, and I couldn’t bare to lose
that girl. We were that small town scandal, but she was my only world
The day I left no words were said
She was sound asleep on our double bed
and I let her lie
I let her lie
I let her lie
I let her lie

Daryle Singletary - I let her lie

I could escape this feeling, with my China Girl
I feel a wreck without my, little China Girl
I hear her heart beating, loud as thunder
Saw they stars crashing

I'm a mess without my, little China Girl
Wake up mornings where's my, little China Girl
I hear her heart's beating, loud as thunder
Saw they stars crashing down

I feel a-tragic like I'm Marlon Brando
When I look at my China Girl
I could pretend that nothing really meant too much
When I look at my China Girl

I stumble into town just like a sacred cow
Visions of swastikas in my head
Plans for everyone
It's in the whites of my eyes

My little China Girl
You shouldn't mess with me
I'll ruin everything you are
I'll give you television
I'll give you eyes of blue
I'll give you a man who wants to rule the world

And when I get excited
My little China Girl says
Oh baby just you shut your mouth
She says ... sh-sh-shhh

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green

Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene

He talks about you in his sleep
There's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, Jolene

And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don't know what he means to me, Jolene

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can

You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He's the only one for me, Jolene

I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, Jolene

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him even though you can
Jolene, Jolene

(Dolly Parton, lately done by The White Stripes, but the Dolly Parton version really rocks, and it's been stuck in my head all evening b/c I learned to play it on the guitar tonight.)

i have this going thru my head . i made the mistake of telling a friend about it. everytime he sees me, he starts singing it:

Where oh where are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over and thought I'd found true love.
You met another and PFFFT! You were gone!

augh!!!!!

You put in my hands a loaded gun
And then told me not to fire it
When you did the things you said were up to me
And then accused me of trying to f&%k it up
But you've never been a waste of my time
It's never been a drag
So take a deep breath and count back from ten
And maybe you'll be alright
And the license said you had to stick around until I was dead
But if you're tired of looking at my face, I guess I already am

Ahhhhhh Liz Phair's "Divorce Song" it's always with me....

Thanks you! and happy birthday mamaley!

alliwenk, you are very pretty and so are your dh and dd.

okay, (clearing throat) la la la, me me me!

Down at an English fair one evening I was there
When I heard a showman shouting underneath the flair

I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts
There they are all standing in a row
Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head
Give them a twist a flick of the wrist
That’s what the showman said

I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts
Every ball you throw will make me rich
There stands me wife, the idol of me life
Singing "Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch"

Singing "Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch"
Singing "Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch"
Roll a bowl a ball, roll a bowl a ball
Singing "Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch"

I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts (they’re lovely)
There they are all standing in a row (one, two, three, four)
Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head (and bigger)
Give them a twist a flick of the wrist
That’s what the showman said

Now but I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts (la da da da da)
Every ball you throw will make me rich (have a banana)
There stands me wife, the idol of me life
Singing "Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch" (all together now)
Singing "Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch" (harmony)
Singing "Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch"
Roll a bowl a ball, roll a bowl a ball
Singing "Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch"

Singing "Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch"

(I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts... Danny Kaye)

China....all the way to NY
I can feel the distance...getting close
You're right next to me, I think that you can hear me
I can hear the distance as you breathe

Sometimes I think you want me to touch you
How can I when you build the great wall around you?

In your eyes I saw a future together,
but you just look away, in the distance.

China decorates our table,
funny how the cracks don't seem to show
Pour the wine, dear
I think we'll take a holiday
but we never can agree on
where to go

LALALALALALALA
LALALALA
uh uh uh uh uh
LALALALALALALAILAI

(ok that's all ive got - at least it's out of my head....maybe)

Strangest thing... Lately everytime I go to my garden this starts.....

"I'm 'enry the eighth I am. 'enry the eighth I am, I am.
She was married seven times before
but every time to an 'enry
nerry (sic) was a Willy or a Sam.
I'm 'er eighth old man I'm 'enry. 'enry the eighth I am.
Second verse, same as the first.........."
