I know better than to worry unnecessarily, but darn it! This stuff just bugs me! I hate umbilical cords. Wish they'd just be belly buttons from the start.
totally normal. ds2 had exactly the same thing, and both my midwife and ped said it was fine. i did use a bit of hydrogen peroxide to clean the dried blood. but otherwise i just left it alone.
i also hate the whole healing process - makes me nervous.
When it fell off it did bleed a bit too.... and she'd had dried blood along the way a few times. So icky.
I'm all about belly buttons coming finished

No worries, caroline.

No worries, caroline.
But, in all seriousness, I think it's more to do with the fact that you just feel so protective of them when they're this tiny. They completely rely on you to keep them fed, warm, changed and pain free. And, to see this little wound on their bellies is kind of heartwrenching. Besides, I just have to worry about something. LOL.
Now, if I could just not be so squeamish about it, it will probably drop off in my hands by morning and I can totally forget there was ever a cord.
I just made myself cry. He's outside me now. Darned hormones!
Good luck and don't worry! Totally normal from what everyone tells me.
