Indoor cardio exercises - Mothering Forums

I went for a walk today with the boys in the double stroller and I had a hard time with all the hills. I was out of breath, ill feeling, dizzy, ugh. I used to have no trouble with that same walk, but this winter I have really been lazy with exercise. I have a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old (who is usually in the ergo), I am 5'4", about 112 lbs.

What can I do in my home to pump up my cardio stamina? I am thinking maybe run up and down the stairs?

Hi Linda! I suppose you could do step workouts or run up and down stairs, but IME, nothing gets me in shape for hiking/outdoor walking like hiking and outdoor walking. Even at my pinnacle of working out with kickboxing and step classes, Mother Nature still walloped me good. It won't hurt to get some workouts indoors, but the best, by far is still outside.

I do intervals on a step here at the house. I go, easy for a minute, hard for 1 1/2 minutes, easy for 30 seconds, then do 15 reps of 3 exercises with hand weights, then repeat. It boosted my stamina really fast. Also, on YouTube there are videos for 4 minute cardio workouts. Some go through the whole workout and some just describe it. But, it is really intense for 4 minutes and is designed to boost metabolism and endurance.
