Here's my routine:

Monday1 - Upper body
Tuesday1 - Cardio
Wednesday1 - Lower body/abs
Thursday1 - Cardio
Friday1 - Upper body
Saturday1 - Cardio
Sunday1 - Rest

Monday2 - Lower body/abs
Tuesday2 - Cardio
Wednesday2 - Upper body
Thursday2 - Cardio
Friday2 - Lower body/abs
Saturday2 - Cardio
Sunday2 - Rest

So yesterday, Wednesday1, I missed my workout.

Today, do I:

1) Just do my cardio (keep normal schedule)
2) Just do my lower body/abs and skip cardio
3) do both cardio and lower body/abs (make it up)


Among my thoughts:

- If I skip the lower body workout, I won't do it again until Monday, that's a long time and lost gain
- Since I'm doing cardio again on Saturday it's probably not as big a deal to miss it
- Not sure if I'm really up to doubling my workout. I could probably do it in a vacuum but I have a family and I want to spend time with them, cook dinner, etc.

So I am leaning toward option 2, but I don't know what I'm "supposed" to do.

(BTW I'm not an athlete at all. Just really trying to get in shape for the first time in my life).

Homeschooling mama to 6 year old DD.

I'd just do what you'd normally be doing today.

Since it's cardio I'd have no problem skipping it. If it was body work I'd just double up & do both upper/lower.

I hate to get out of my routine, it all feels off.

If I skipped my cardio tonight I would do it first thing in the morning. I would also have to do my weights or cardio tomorrow night like I would normally do.

I'd skip the cardio & do the weights you missed. I'm not much of a proponent of lots of cardio. Muscle gain is so much more effective for pumping up the metabolism & giving us a better shape.

Surviving sleep deprivation one day at a time with dd (Oct '11) & ds (Oct '08).

I'll either double up the next day or do it on my "rest day."

I'd make it up too. If time is an issue, I might do a shorter amount of cardio than normal to fit in enough time for lower body.

Skip the cardio. If anything goes for me it's the cardio. what you CAN do, is lift weights without rest by a few ways. Either condense your upper/lower body workout so you are supersetting ONE upper body thing and ONE lower body thing. SO, if you want to do say squats and bicep curls, you would do one set of curls, one set of squats right after with no rest. Then rest a quick 30 seconds if needed and do it again. Or get your cardio in with your weights. Do your lower body set, then pick up a jump rope and do 30 seconds, then back to your second set and so on. Or, super set lower body with plyometric stuff like jump squats or something. You can get fat burn and weights all in one. Cardio is good for your heart but you can skip it if you need to
