Today's FM: Running up and down stairs in a panic as I flooded the upstairs bath/laundry, which became a flooded kitchen. Took out ceiling tiles (I hate them, but am thankful for them) and the damage looks not too devastating. I'm sure dh will be so happy with me.
Is this a sign, you guys?

I skiied this morning!

My son has apparently been too busy having fun at grandma's house to be bothered talking to me.
But I had a lovely conversation with MIL, at least.

I saw Nick's "New Thread" post on the Oct thread and I couldn't figure out for several moments why on earth we should have a new thread.

So this is the Sept thread, right?

Right?

I do seem to be successfully resurrecting a running group for myself. Lovely run this morning, and thankfully I was well dressed for the 29F.

#9 ·

I'm setting out winterish gear for the morning.

ETA I think I've forgotten how to dress w/o overdressing. If I wear a single layer under the coat I wear when it really is cold Ithink I can always unzip it using my reflective vest to keep it on. I think I ran in shorts and a tank top last week?

#10 ·
New here! I'm back into running as of two weeks ago, after recovering from a broken toe. My kids didn't have school today, so I didn't get out for my morning run. I'm hoping to get to the gym tonight to run on the treadmill, just so I don't lose my schedule or my momentum, but DH is late getting home from work. Eek! I'm hoping to better my 5k time this month---as of Friday it was 35:10.

#11 ·
yay - new thread!

I'm sick *boo* as we were rained and SNOWED on during trick or treating with the kids... oh joy. Totally not even close to being ready for winter around here
How does everyone else deal with the super cold winter running outdoors?

I am getting excited about seeing the family (in-laws) this weekend for my SILs 30th birthday
it's 80s theme!!

Gah, I hear you Geo! How did it get to be November!!!!!!!! I was so out of the loop last month and I missed you women. I will have to start afresh this month.

Mommajb, the weather is crazy! last week it was 70 and I was biking and running in shorts and this morning, well, brr. I'm heading out in half an hour and I really need to get some new winter kit.

Welcome Simplehome

I'm trying to grade midterms while being painfully aware that I have a paper to write for a conference in two weeks. I'm only going to the conference so I can go to SF
and now I am sort of wishing I was staying home and not having to write it

so... the other thing, as some of you know from FB, is that next year I will either sign up for a half-ironman (it's in September) or I will have a baby!
Whichever comes first... Someone is helping me put together a schedule for training as I don't know what I'm doing, and day one of training was yesterday! I''m scared!

Okay, one more paper and I'm going for a run!

#13 ·
A new thread! Yay!!!

zub ~ which half-ironman are you thinking of doing? I really want to do one next summer too, but I can't decide which race. At least if you get pregnant during training, you'll be in great shape for pregnancy and delivery, right
!

Kris ~ for me, cold weather running musts include smartwool winter socks, long underwear under my loose tights, lots of lighweight layers, running gloves with removable outers, and my beloved hot pink balaclava
. Of course, that's for when it's really cold (ie. below 15 or so). Right now, just gloves, tights, and an extra layer.

Welcome simplehome!

Halloween candy has been my downfall this week. Damn you, fun size Snickers! I'm headed to the Y this morning for Power Pump and then to my polling place to exercise my right to vote
.

Jaygee, you should join me! It's the pumpkinman half in South Berwick, ME. I did the sprint this year and it's very well done. I have a couple of friends who have done it and they say good things about it.. Also, there is an aquabike if my legs don't behave running

Ooooh! When is it? I could even stay at my parent's house in Portsmouth or my sister's in Dover, NH! Hmmmmm.... and an aquabike you say? If my leg is still weird, I could do that.... Now you've got my wheels turning
.

When are you going?

I'll be there mid-December, so I'll probably miss you.

Poppy - hear that? Maybe BART in for dinner again? I think I'll be staying in SF this time, with maybe a few more evenings free. Maybe meet on a day in Berkeley (not yet scheduled), but the meeting will probably just make me sour.

FMR: 6 dark miles. I am not sure if I overdressed or not this morning. I was prepared for about 10 degrees cooler than it turned out to be and I was hot but I survived.

The kids ate all the good Halloween candy already so I am good there.

Ds1's basketball practice was in a gym I hadn't heard of before. In a town as small as this that is saying something. Anyway, I took him and my very vague directions and started circling town in progressively smaller circles. I knew I was close but we still couldn't identify which building we were looking for. As I was sitting in ther ointersenction of two alleys I suddenly saw a truck with a front plate from his school. "Quick! Jump out and ask them where it is!" Then we saw two boys get out and run between two buildings so I said, "Just follow them!" It was comical. There I sat in an alley in a part of town we had decided was a bit too rough for us to live in and I am telling my teenage son to just run follow those boys down an alley and between building into another building that looked all boarded up.
He found practice and said it was a very nice basketball gym. Ah, Indiana. I took dh back with me to pick him up so he would know where to pick him up today.

Just another day here with the same old stuff. It is rather nice though you'd think I'd be better at it all by now.

I am so happy that it's cooler out. I feel like running again (finally!).

I also love Smartwool socks, and Under Armour baselayer clothing. I have other things, but my UA has held up so well. I wear it a lot (from October to April) and the set I bought 4 years ago is still going strong.

Abagale is sick today, and I have a ton of soap to make. I am shooting for a run tonight when DH gets home.

Geo, I'm going in two weeks! The entire family is coming so I'll be giving my paper and then doing a lot of tourist-y stuff!

Jaygee, you should do this!!!!!! Here's the link... http://www.pumpkinmantriathlon.com/

Plady, you should come back and visit Berwick soon

FM -my first training run this morning and my legs were still sore from Sunday. I am dealing with referred pain, and i think it's coming from my darn hips again. I hope this doesn't plague me. On the books was 50mins - 15 min warm-up, 4x3mins (2mins build and 1 min recovery) followed by 23 mins of steady running. It was much harder than it should have been, I think.

Gah, gotta get these exams marked.

Hey, hi guys! Is it November already?

All is well here; I've been running and stretching and am not currently injured, so that's a good thing. We'll see how long it lasts.

I'm in Massachusetts, so getting whiny about the cold already. The temperature has been in the upper thirties the past few days, which has me
. This really isn't the ideal environment for me, but we're settled so here we stay. I don't have any special socks. Talk to me about smartwool. It is still actual wool, right? I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to wool; I can't wear any variety of it without getting terribly itchy and red. Too bad, because my toes could really use a warm-up!

I've been wearing two layers of pants, usually tights with pajama pants over them. Very stylish.
On top I wear a long-sleeved shirt with a short-sleeved shirt over it, gloves, neck gaiter, baseball cap, and snow hat. When it gets a bit colder I'll have to add more layers or join a gym.

We've got far too much Halloween candy here, but I'm being surprisingly reasonable about it. In general I crave sugar, but I've found that when I'm running I tend to crave fat more than sugar. I'm constantly trying to think of something to eat that will include lots of butter. Lately I've been sauteeing whole oats in (a LOT of) butter, then drizzling with maple syrup. Today I've been eating ricotta cheese.

Somebody please tell me that this fat craving is some sort of good sign, and not just a sign that my body is never ever going to let me lose any weight.

Okay, I've avoided raking leaves for long enough; I need to get out there. Mid-December, when hopefully every single leaf will have fallen and been taken to the dump, can't come soon enough. I can't wait to have my car cleaned; it is disgraceful!

Geo~I thought the exact thing about why we needed a new threat.
wow, life is crazy!!

No FM today, too much going on, and tomorrow I'm meeting up with friends during my normal run time and have friends baby here over night (which means no morning in home work out either) so looks like Thursday is my next run day. Bought cheap stretchy gloves for $1 for running and easy to stuff in pocket when my hands get too hot.

Crafty~bought hemp cord to make another keychain thingy that we made at Dingo camp. I like them so much! Also bought some cotton yarn for new soap sack to hold all the soap bits.

Who made that soap that made us more "connected" to our hubbies? Want some more.

Off to get kids from school!

Mandy. I think she's out of the soap biz, but I wonder if Nemesis could supply the commune...

Running with D tonight. First time in ages. My on-and-off running buddies are all scattered! D hurt her hamstring, K's life is busier than most dingos, T quit running because she wasn't losing weight, C's nanny quit (with Gaye-like luck, with 10 minutes notice...) ...

Life. Is. Crazy.

And my insomnia is back. Likely tied to less gossip + running time. Which means I don't feel like running tonight because I'm wiped. It doesn't help that I've been grading or advising all day long.
: Seriously, I'm gonna lose it if one more student writes that olivine is green because the mantle's hot.

Zub ~ that race looks awesome, but I'm not sure I could break away to Maine after school has started in the fall. Will definitely think about it though.

Power Pump was HARD this morning. I walked in and there was a new instructor. At first I was kind of disappointed ~ she looked out of shape, overweight, and generally uninspiring
. But whoa! She kicked our butts and I'm going to be feeling some pain tomorrow for sure. Talk about not judging a book by its cover...

We have another showing tomorrow. I'm so tired of cleaning.
