Hi Ladies! I'm still here, even though I haven't posted in awhile...

The last time I weighed I was the same, no changes. I have had the flu for the past week, though, so here's hoping I at least got a pound loss out of this miserableness!

Thanks for the new thread!

Ok, so I am getting back on track. I don't want to update my stats because I prefer to be in denial of the damage done over the holidays. I would like to update my goal though. Baby steps don't seem to be working. Can you please update my goal weight to 140. Thank you!

Ok, let's do this!

I need to rework my daily life.  I have had several jobs since I was a teenager and not to mince words I was the best employee at most of them.  I work hard for other people and do a good job.  However, it seems that I am not a good at being self employed (i.e. a stay at home mommy).  I think the reason is because at home we kind of float willy nilly around, with only meals and nap happening at a set time every day.  That leaves a lot of time to fill everyday with work and play for the kids and I, and while I usually have dinner on the table at a reasonable time and the house is reasonable clean and organized most of the time, I know that if I had been hired to do this job I would not be getting a raise anytime soon.

Thinking along those lines I wrote out a daily schedule of things to do and when to do them (roughly) as if I were working at the preschool again and included exercise and going outside.  I don't think that we (the kids and I) go out nearly enough, regardless of the season, and I think that unless it is unsafe to be outside (and just being cold isn't necessarily unsafe) then we should go out for at least 15 minutes every day.  I don't usually make new years resolutions but my only one this year was to be more patient with my family and in doing so show them how much I love them.  Hopefully having more structure during the day will help me refrain from losing my patience with the kids and will also help me to get my exercising in at least 5 days a week.  It might sound corny but I want to be the best me possible, every day.  Let's see if my new resolve helps me to also be the healthiest me possible every day.  Starting 2011 at 140 but I will be at my goal of 125 long before it is over.

I really like your post spugly. I have similar goals for myself - inspired to be the best -me- I can be. This thought came yesterday after I drove DH to work at 6:30am and saw a group of women out running. I live in Canada, at 6:30 it was dark, cold & snowy - and here are these thin, athletic super women out running! I was enviuos of their motivation and desire to exercise and fit it into their day. I was impressed - to say the least. I want to be motivated! I thought `Why can`t I be a runner...``  But I suppose I can!

I`ve had a rough few days getting back on plan, quitting sugar after eating lots usually makes me grim for a few days while my body adjusts (sugar! my addiction! - which I let myself have as much as I wanted for ... maybe 8 or 9 days)

The damage: Well a couple days ago I was 138 in the morning, which sucked! But back down to 136 today. My WW weigh ins are in the evening on Thursdays .. so I am expecting to still have gained since my last weigh in (two weeks ago). Tonight I am headed to the gym to do soem damage control I suppose.

Okay, here I am. I've been kind of hiding out while I get my holiday weight gain under control. BUT this is what the scale told me this morning..

weightjanuary.jpg

so I'm pretty much back to where I was before I left. WHEW. It only took a week and a half, which is about how long it took to put on, so that is a relief. Plus this is the first time I've seen a 6 next to the 3! I'm trying not to think about where I would be if I hadn't indulged so much, and just trying to focus on my goals. I didn't make my goal of 135 by new years obviously, but I can still aim for 130 by March 2nd, when my DS turns one year old! I keep looking in the mirror and trying to think positive thoughts instead of all the negative. I had two babies 23 months apart, and I weigh 137lbs. I weighed 180lbs before getting pregnant with my son. I weighed 150lbs at my WEDDING! I weighed 135lbs in high school, and felt great and now I am only 3lbs from that. It is just so hard to switch my mentality over and realize that I am at a healthy weight for my height. I am not the fat girl anymore. I do not need to suck it in and put my arm over my stomach for pictures (like that would have somehow helped back then anyway!). It is just proving harder than I thought to switch gears. I was watching the Biggest Loser premiere yesterday, and for a minute I was JEALOUS of the contestants, because I wanted to lose all that weight in a short period of time. I was thinking "Oh man, these people are losing 20+ lbs a week, why can't that be me?" before I realized that I don't even have 20lbs to lose TOTAL. It is just hard to realize that this is the new me, this is my new body. I was folding the laundry yesterday, and kept looking at my size 6 & 8 pants, and they looked SO small to me. I was certain that they shrunk in the dryer, so I put them on, and of course they fit just fine. (a bit tighter from the dryer, but still fit just fine- in fact, most of my 8's are big now!) I can't even blame vanity sizing for that. When I first started fitting into 6's- I thought to myself, oh its just because of vanity sizing! And maybe it was a bit, but those pants yesterday LOOKED small to me. A skinny person would wear those pants. But somehow they must have magically grown while I was putting them on or something, because they fit over my hips & thighs. Its just weird. I think I might need a real life support group. I wish I could pay for weight watchers, but I am a SAHM, and with one income we really shouldn't budget that in. I know Overeaters Anonymous is free, but they only hold them around here on times that I wouldn't be able to go. I don't know if I need a therapist or anything, but as the months go on, I'm starting to wonder if that is what I need. Last year, I thought I'd be done by now, and happy with the way I look by now. I just wanted to be 150. That was the goal. My husband worries that there wont ever be a goal. That once I get to 130, I will keep saying "just 10 more.". In the purpose of full disclosure, I will say that I have struggled with an eating disorder in the past, and have seen therapists & nutritionists as an outpatient for it. Of course this was a looooong time ago, way before husband & kids, and I do consider myself completely recovered because I never have any intentions of going back to that place. Which is why I haven't really mentioned it here (if at all). I know better than that. I'll never let it get that out of control. I just need something, and I don't know what. Which is why I am so confused. Those of you who have been there done that, how did you find something that worked for you?

Thanks for letting me vent. stillheart.gif

edited to add: i was looking over my old wii fit weigh ins and wow, i completely forgot about that day that i saw 135. ignore my sentence about the first time seeing a 6 next to the 3. now im just depressed again haha.

Amanda, LOL, I do the same thing watching The Biggest Loser. The same thoughts! DH thinks I'm nuts. lol.gif

Also, it takes awhile for that mind-body connection to kick in. It hasn't even been a year for you, and you've made amazing progress weight wise. Hopefully, it'll kick in for you soon.

Welcome.gif chewynotcrunchy!!! Congrats on the weight loss so far.

Hi everyone! Can I join even though my baby is now 13 months old (how is that possible?!)? She's still nursing around the clock and just recently started eating solids consistently so I feel like my weight loss is still on the "postpartum" track. My pre-pregnancy weight was 152, I was 205 on the day I went into labor, and weighed 135.5 this morning. My ultimate goal is to maintain in the 125-130 range and to commit to a lifestyle where I drink lots of water, eat healthfully, and exercise 5-6 days/week. Currently, I'm taking a couple ballet barre and yoga classes each week and going for the occasional long walk/jog with my dog. I really need to up my cardio and refocus on healthy eating. I'm looking forward to getting to know you ladies! smile.gif

Well, I've been around 138.7 the past few days, so I will say that my new weight is now 139.  I can't believe my baby girl is going to be 6 months in a few days!  In six months I have gone from 184 down to 139, that's 45 lbs!  I know that I will be able to keep the downward trend going as long as I keep paying attention.  Little Man and I have been having dance parties together and goodness gracious is he a tough trainer!  When I do the WiiFit he does it with me and he always wants to do more.  I decided that I wanted to start lifting weights with DH as soon as the temperatures in the garage climb out of the 30's and start heading towards something more reasonable (like in April).  We keep his weight bench out there because there isn't any other place for it, but there is no way I'd be able to do it while freezing my butt off.  It's been snowing outside the past few days which means that we have been inside all day.  I don't have any boots or waterproof footwear of any kind really.  I really need to remedy that if my goal of going outside daily is going to work, even in the spring and summer we get some wet days that I would like some boots for.

Does anyone here veggie garden?  I am starting one in the spring and have been planning where and what to plant.  Hopefully it will give me some exercise (albeit very low intensity) as well as a reason to up my veggie intake this spring/summer.  Good intentions but... shrug.gif we'll see.  I actually really like vegetables and since I hate for food to go to waste (maybe that is part of my weight problem) I am hoping that I won't let all the food rot on the vine and will instead fill up on wholesome, organic, vegetables.

I lost 2 lbs. smile.gif But knowing my scale, it could be inaccurate. I do feel better, though. And I'm really happy with my curvy hourglass figure I have going on. I am not looking forward to losing that and my boobs when I lose the weight, but my knees can't handle this weight and I want to wear non-maternity clothes! lol.gif

I've been doing yoga about everyday, plus squats and the Sahrmann exercises. I am waiting for Eoin Finn's Blissology program to arrive so that I can dedicate a month to yoga, happiness, and feeling better about myself. smile.gif

Arghhhh.  Maybe Christmas, but I am up to 148.  I have not been watching what I eat since DD2's birth, I think I have to start there.  Am also trying to work out 5-6 days a week.  3 so far this week, need to get in Sat and Sunday.

Lets see what I can get done in January!

I was skimming through the roll call and just wanted to remark how honored I am to be in the company of women who are totally ROCKING the weight loss. I mean...take a look! Some incredibly impressive weight losses happening Ladies!

After 4 months on Weight Watchers I have made good progress but still have a ways to go. We can't continue to afford meetings right now but I am doing etools until Spring maybe...once I get close to goal the plan is to return to meetings for 6 weeks so I can earn Lifetime status and then attend for free as long as I stay at goal. I rejoined TOPS for in person support. (www.tops.org) It is cheaper and more motivational for me...keeps me on track and I can continue to do Weight Watchers while keeping accountabile to an in person group. Plus you get a magazine...yearly membership is like 26 bucks so it is reasonable. I used my birthday money, lol.

Checking in--164.  So, still 2lbs from where I was before the holidays but I am getting there.  I also moved my weigh in day to Sunday morning so help stave off the all-you-can-eat weekends.  Seemed to work for me this weekend.

kittywitty-  are you eating to few calories, causing your body to think you are in a famine and need to store it?  or are you gaining muscle and throwing the scale off (fat takes up more space per lb than muscle), or perhaps retaining water?  You've probably thought of all these.  It sucks when you feel like you are on a roll, eating healthy and exercising and it turns out you haven't made any progress or have instead slide backward.  Hang in there!

kittywitty- try not to get too upset. You are only 2 months pp. It could be water. I agree with spuglyroo about the possibility of too few calories or muscle. With both kids at 2 months my body was still figuring out the new status quo.

Welcome.gif hollymommy

I am back on track after the holiday excess. The trick is to make it last through next week when I have to travel. Also, it's my 5K (eek).

still hovering between 138.5 and 140 depending on the morning.  I guess this is my first plateau and I'm going to need to kick it up a notch to get moving in the correct direction again.  Which means I should be sitting here on the computer winky.gif but should instead be working out.  Maybe if I spent less time on the computer I'd burn more calories and lose more weight. Lost .5 this week despite my lack of motivation to track what I ate.. and a few indulgences... say.. an entire box of swiss cheese crackers ... waaay too many huge bowls of special k... and a lot of life savers candies... yikes, not much nutritional value in any of that! Trying to find motivation to continue on losing... I was 134.5 at my WW meeting. Next week I will hopefully reach my goal of 134 and declare a new goal... (I'm thinking.. 125?)

Does anybody else have a difficult time drinking enough water?? I honestly think thats why I ate so much cereal this week.. was to get the fluids from the milk... How do you make sure you get enough h20 for a nursing mama? Anyone have any reality-striking info on why water is just so important?? (I really need a wake up call regarding this...)

With exercise? Been doing pretty well.. went to the gym twice this week, but also got the Michael Jackson Dance game for Wii (haha its pretty fun!) .. and DH got me the Zumba game for wii since I've been going to zumba class at the YMCA and really enjoying it. Both games are a good workout and fun too! I'm also looking into getting DH and I snowshoes so we can take DD out for some winter activity and get our hearts pumping! DH has quit smoking... 5 days in.. and I imagine hes going to need to do extra exercise to make up for all the junk food hes been eating!! (But SOOO SOO proud of him!)

I guess thats it for now.. but I do want to say... WAKE UP mamas!! This thread was really pumping for quite a few months but seems to have lost some umph!! POST and tell us how you're doing!! If there are any lurkers about.. we could really use your support!

Hi Everyone! I just started a new "diet", but it's not really a diet, just clean eating. I'm down to 133.8!!!

 Nice work, Nola79!!!

I just got off the scale and am down to 175!!!  I am really trying to increase my water intake and not drink any calories.  Exercise isn't going well for me right now, DD and I just snuggle and read most days. I plan on making some granola bars this weekend, so hopefully that will help get my days started on the right foot.  I am decided to weigh-in on Fridays rather than Mondays to give myself extra motivation for the weekend instead of getting down on myself every Monday.

Me!!  I have probably lived in a state of near constant partial dehydration my whole life.  During my last pregnancy my midwife asked if I had been drinking enough and what I drank the day before.  It turns out I had only consumed about 18 oz of water/liquids the entire day, which she told me was unacceptable (even for a non-pregnant woman) and I needed to do a lot better.  Since then I have made a conscious effort to drink more water.  I fill a two quart pitcher with water and set it out on the counter with a glass so that I see it every time I walk through the kitchen and I can be visually reminded of how much/little I've had so far that day.  Back in July when I had first had my baby I filled the pitcher twice each day (I was nursing and it was really hot so I needed the extra) but now I do around 2.5 quarts a day.

Changes I've noticed:

less/non-existent skin blemishes

weird bald patches on my tongue disappeared

skin is noticeably less dry and dandruff nearly gone

more regular bowel movements (fiber is good but without water all that fiber just turns to cement in your colon)

weight loss (a lot of people read their body's signals wrong and eat instead of drinking so they are consuming calories instead of water.  I pretty much only drink water so I'm not wasting any calories on a glass of juice when I am thirsty.  Also I have heard a lot that by the time you feel thirsty you are already partially dehydrated but I'm not sure how true that is I've never looked it up).

I can't think of the rest off the top of my head, and right now Little Man is at my elbow telling me that I want to play trains with him (not asking, lol) He is sick at the moment (the germs are starting to make their rounds to the rest of us, lovely) but he is more needy when he's not well so I am going to indulge him before we go make lunch.  Hope this helps!

thank you! I really like the idea about setting the water out in a jug... Since we buy our water.. this might also help me to drink it.. since I wont want it to go.. `stale`

I think I;ll try this.. gotta find a jug first though!!

hi. i'm lurking again. can you tell?

i guess, its just there isn't much to update on.

i've still seen the same numbers for almost a month now.

at least all the holiday weight is gone, but the scale just isn't budging AT. ALL.

I think.. and I really HATE to say it.. but I think, that maybe this is just the weight that my body wants to be at. I mean.. I have a healthy BMI, so its not completely unheard of, I guess.

I'd love love love to lose these last 7lbs and get to 130, but maybe I wont. Who knows. I'm doing the best I can. Nothing has changed, and the weight just isn't coming off. I'm hoping that maybe this is just a plateau, and that it will come off eventually. The one positive? This has been such an amazing journey, and I've seen such wonderful results that this is truly a lifestyle change. I'm not going to go back to the way things were, because this is the new me. So maybe I wont lose another pound. But I wont let myself gain another one either!

But you can be sure I'm going to try! (to lose, that is.)

I read this- http://medweb.mit.edu/pdf/set_point_theory.pdf

and I'd like to discuss it. Anyone have any thoughts? What do you think. Its an interesting concept.

The article has an interesting theory.  It seems to make sense, especially when you look at how people raised in a household where they share the same diet and lifestyle but have greatly varying sizes/weights.  I'm not sure if it is true though.  I think that there are a lot of factors that play a part in weight loss, not just the obvious dietary and physical activity aspects, but also things such as mood, stress level, hormones (natural, medicated, or dietary) etc.  I also have read that the foods we eat while we are pregnant and their quantities as well as whether or not we are exercising will impact the baby's body in relation to future weight, heath, and their desire for pursuing physical activity as adults.

We have all succumbed to the flu over here.  I haven't been exercising for the past several days because I feel so lousy and the kids are driving me up the wall.  The only difference at the moment is I have doubled my daily water to try and flush the germs out of my system.  If I weigh less when I finally get around to measuring it will probably because of the lung I will have lost this week.  Ugh.  Can't wait for spring.
