Thanks!

I can recommend Chalean Extreme.  I really liked the results I saw with that program.

^^The way I reasoned it through was that it was cheaper than a typical gym membership.  There's a good book, Strong Women Stay Young and it has a good beginning strength program.

Ok, I'm seeing that it could be worth money to be healthier! I also see some chalean programs on ebay for less. What specific elements should I be sure to buy in any package: dvds, obviously - but any gear that comes with a new package that really makes it all go well?

Well, I eventually ended up purchasing PowerBlocks (adjustable dumbbells from 5-45 lbs.) because I was getting stronger and outgrowing the weights I had around (4, 5, 6# dumbbells and various weight that my husband has).  I also got a small resistance band loop at Target for 99 cents.  That's all that's needed: weights (or bands but I prefer weights).   :)
