Background:

The thought came to my head because I joined the "losing weight in 2012" thread, but I didn't have much motivation, and I had no-one to be accountable to.  I was thinking about the Biggest Loser, and how teams can be such a motivation.  So, I thought I would throw this out there for anyone who needs to get some weight loss happening, but just can't seem to get off the couch.

The challenge:

Commit to an eight week weight loss challenge.  You'll be assigned to a team, and your weight loss percentage will be measured on an individual and a team basis.  The team with the highest loss percentage at the end of the eight weeks will be the winner.

This is a TEAM effort.  If you lose, your team wins!  Your weekly progress will be updated on the leader board for all to see.

The requirements:

You have to be willing to commit to the full eight weeks beginning 23/01/12

You have to be willing to commit to exercising a minimum of 4 x 30 minute sessions per week - the type of exercise is up to you!

You have to be willing to check in and update your progress and weight at least weekly.  More often would be better.

You have to be willing to share your weight and your height.  (By PM if you are shy)

You may not join if losing 1 lb / .5 kg per week will put you in an underweight category according to your BMI (check here) at the end of eight weeks

The prize:

A thinner waistline, and the opportunity to bask in the glory of the winning team.

If you'd like to join in, please post to let me know.  You can choose not to share your starting weight until the 23rd if you wish.

I'd just like to get an idea of how many might be interested, so we can begin to get organised.

If anyone has any further suggestions, I'm totally open :)

Probably mainly treadmill for me.  Might try to work on the C25K program.  Maybe some Wii boxing for my flabby arms!

I've been wanting to do the c25k again. I'm so out of shape I can barely run. I've got a c25k podcast on my ipod right now, so if anybody wants to do the first six weeks of that I will join.

I've been walking 3-4 times a week at the gym track, and occasionally lifting weights. I need something to get moving, I can't MOVE.  My gym has pink gloves boxing and I've thought about dropping in on that but I'm not sure I wouldn't hurt myself.

I don't want to bring my team down though. I have a bad back and sometimes I physically can't work out. I also have lost and regained the same ten pounds for a year! Yikes! I do have a lot to lose though. I'm 5-6 and 208 lbs

I agree.. you can do it!  And your team would be there to support you!

Even 30 mins of gentle exercise would count!  Like yoga, or maybe swimming?  Or hand weights?

You would probably just have to be a bit stricter on your diet on the weeks you couldn't do much

ETA: besides, I think we need even numbers!!

I'd like to join. :)   I'm 5'4 and I think I'm about 222. I'll weigh myself in the morning to double check.

My exercise: Well, I'm already taking hockey skating lessons twice a week (One class with gear and the other without)  and 1-2x a week I go to open skate for 1/2 hour or so. I'd like to add Kinect Zumba or one of the dance games 2-3x a week.

I'd be interested if there's still time to join. I've been gradually losing weight since my second son was born last year. I'm 5'8 and currently 173 lbs.

Yay Blue Team! We are some tall women ladies :) Looks to me like we weight 770lbs together so we are working to lose some good percentage points off of that.

I don't know now, you are on the red team! Just kidding.

Went to the gym with dh today. We walked on the track (well he ran) and then lifted weights. I actually spent most of my time there mucking around with the waistband on my yoga pants. Everytime I sat down the band would roll down and my belly would pop out. I have quite the belly these days. Stick legs with my medium butt, then huge middle section. Older dd says I have the mommy belly.

I stepped on the scale this morning to confirm my weight and it was 208.1. Talk about accurate!

DH mumbled from the bed "Are you still weighing yourself?" What do you want me to do, just give up? Giving up on my weight loss means giving up on my love life as well. Being as heavy as I am has been a total turn off to me.

So I decided to make today a practice run as far as my eating goes.

Here's how it went....

I woke up and grabbed the instant oatmeal but there were no plain packets left ( I usually do half and half to cut the sugar) so my oatmeal was full sugar.

On the way to church DH stopped at Mc Donalds. I skipped the fast food and just ordered a coffee with just cream. They put sugar in it anyways.

I was starving through church but skipped the donuts and grabbed a nutri grain bar at the fellowship hall.

After church I went to my DH relatives as they were making his great grandma's authentic Italian pizza and wanted my daughter to learn the tradition. I had two pieces for lunch. My daughter did a great job. The pizza was perfect!

I came home and the kids busted out the pringles. I ate a couple and then grabbed a clementine instead. DH texted about wanting enchiladas for dinner. This is going to be hard.

I decided to commit to doing step arobics on wii fit. I have to get the wii board out of storage but won't be up that direction till Friday. My storage is in another city as rates are too high where I live. Maybe I will see if I can get a dance game too for fun.

Rode 10+ miles on my stationary bike today and did a bunch of crunches, kicks and leg lifts. My knees bother me a bit, which sucks, and I often feel like I need to hold back a bit with the more intense aerobics to ensure I don't injure myself. Anyhow, ate great today. No sugar at all. No processed carbs. Lots of green veggies. Yay.

I also watched biggest loser (I am on season 2 in Netflix) while I worked out and that was fun and motivating for this game. Perhaps I can be the biggest loser this week :)
