How much does your weight normally fluctuate? I can be several pounds higher in the evening than the morning, and it jumps all over, up and down during the week. I don't pay any attention to it as long as the trend is down. When I weigh on Mondays I don't even bother with the point-something because I know an hour later the number isn't even accurate any more.

This is me too, except I still check often for the inspiration that any kind of number can give me. But for the reasons you describe, I'm not fussed that I seem to have gained a pound since I started my daily walks... I always go up before I go down! It's quite mysterious, but I think of it as a slow fluid/ kidney response to a change in metabolic expenditures (exercise.)

Sorry for my absence ofver the last 4 days - we have packed up our entire house, driven 9 hours of actual driving + stops with the kiddos, and unpacked about 75% of the house in the last 4 days.  So no official excersise, but lots of lifting, loading, and my old neighbor was remarking that she had never seedn someone loading couches in a moving truck with a baby on their back (the one year old was  riding in the ergo for most of the moving!).  I did well eating wise at ht ebegining andf in the car, but since we have been in the new house, eating has been pretty poor as we have not had time to make it to the grocery store :(  Our goal is to finish the move by monday, so I hope to be back on track wk with both eating and workouts by then.  I will be bummed if I have a gain this week, but not entirely surprised.  I really hate moving - one of my least favorite aspects of military life!

Below is the updated chart.  I still have not heard from mama-k and isafrench.  Sorry I missed you earlier Milk - Lots of posts to read for weights!!!!

Milk - I know you do not want to boot anyone (and neither do I!) but I am wondering if we can have a rule about dropping people if they miss 2 weigh-ins in a row?  I realize life happens, but if you miss 2 in a row, you have missed 1/4 of the challenge!  Any ideas on this?

Here's the updated chart - I am off to unpack more boxes biggrinbounce.gif

Wow, Barefootmama--you are a moving fool. I hope things get settled for you soon and you're "at home." Thanks for making the chart in the midst of all that work!

Buzzer, that's cool about the trainer sessions. I hope you two click. Have you tried elliptical with your bum knee? I've found that if I consciously avoid locking my leg straight (which is next to impossible on an elliptical machine), my knees don't scream so much at me. But my issue is an unusual structural one (I have an essentially vestigial ligament that gets inflamed sometimes), and yours is a bad-ass injury, so that may not apply. I hate days when you can't get enough to eat!

allisonrose, you're killing me by talking about Fritos! mmmm. No, I mean "evil." ;) WTG on working out this morning--keep it up!

Ruthie, I bet a banana really does hit the spot. (I can't stand the things, though). I'm actually worried that with potential leftover baked goods--birthday cake and brownies, I'll skip the egg whites for breakfast in favor of a brownie (and then feel like crap all day except for those 5 minutes).

pacific, That sounds badass. You should totally do it. I hate pushups, so I'll just cheer you on, k?

PNCTink, what did the podiatrist say today? I hope you're running windsprints in no time! :P

lilacvioletiris, you with your bbq chip reference AND allison's Fritos?? Oh, the torture!!! I'm totally the same way if I don't eat something decent before grocery shopping.

AFM-- I did C25K week5day1 today and it felt GREAT! I was under the impression it was 4 intervals of 5min running, but my phone app only had me do 3 intervals? I was prepared to do another one, so added a 3min jog at a bit slower pace to my cooldown. It was an awesome escape from my stressful Birthday Party weekend. The boys' party is tomorrow, and I've baked a cake and brownies and eaten more brownie batter and icing that I'd like, but didn't eat much "bad" stuff today, so it's okay. I found out my mom (who's visiting) is prediabetic, so hopefully she'll take a hint from my low-carb-ish eating about how to control blood sugars (which is a good part of why I do it and why I explained to her I didn't want bread at lunch or rice at supper). I had a good mini-weigh-in this morning, but I don't want to get my hopes up until the next two days of sweets and pizza and junk food passes!

Now it was my turn to puke all night, holy crap. It was fun to get on the scale and see four pounds gone, at least for the moment. I know it's gonna come right back when I get some liquids down. I don't see finishing my c25k plans this week unfortunately.

Stegenrae, I missed that you are TTC- wishing you success!!!

Aww, Buzzer, that is awful. I had it a few weeks ago and I did see the scale go up as soon as I add liquids to my body. Hope you feel better.

I just finished d2w1 of c25k and it was amazingly easier than d1. I feel pretty good. My butt hurts, but I suppose that is normal. Im reading here instead of eating potato chips dipped in ice cream. I wont do it, I wont. I never , ever keep ice cream in my house (or potato chips for that matter) but these are things left over from dd's party. I wish I could just throw them in the trash. I'm thinking about also trying the 100 push ups thing. I cant get myself motovaited to use the shake weight, but my arms really need some work.

Well, I never ended up doing C25K this week! (Sorry BB) I just saw the new support thread though, so hopefully this is my week. We're relocating my treadmill to the living room, so that might stop some of my procrastination.

BFM: Wow! What a big move. I think that definitely counts as exercise. IsaFrench's weigh in got buried way back too... Unfortunately for BLUE it was a two pound gain, so 162.
She did also PM me to say that because of travel her weigh in this week will be delayed until Thursday Euro time.
However, I think your rule can stick: MISS TWO WEIGH INS AND YOU ARE OUT!!!

BB: Sorry that you're so ill. I always find it hard to build back up to eating properly after being sick like that. I hope you are feeling better soon. The C25K will just have to wait (and give me a chance to catch up!!!)

Rae: Stay strong through the party! Think of how good it felt to be a loser last week!!

Adalinesmama: I've been known to throw the junk in the bin in those situations. A hard thing to do, because I don't believe in waste, but I know if it's there, I will eat it!

Speaking of which - confession: I ate BBQ chips yesterday. Too many. It's OT, but some of the outcomes regarding my fertility, etc from my specialist appt (where I had the biopsy) were a bit shocking, and I have been quite down about the whole thing. This TTC journey is such a struggle sometimes. I really feel like crap about it, because I basically haven't eaten any chips since the beginning of the last challenge - I've been so strong! Part of me just wants to curl up and eat junk food though.

Anyway, back soon with the weigh in lists.

Before anyone "tut-tuts" at me, yes, these charts are by total loss in pounds, and not in weight loss percentage, which is how the challenge is measured.  But, it is Sunday morning, and I am too lazy to do percentages.  Maybe this arvo.  ROTFLMAO.gif

I did wk1d2 of the C25K today but I dropped my iPod onto the cement during the run and smashed the screen mecry.gif. I just got it 2 weeks ago for my birthday. I finished the run but cried my head off when I got home. We are sending it in to get it replaced but it's $$$. I feel terrible. I hope I can have the motivation to continue without it. I don't have a watch or anything to time the intervals. I've got set a reminder to weigh in on Monday for some reason I have tuesday stuck in my head and I already was late on one.

PNCTink!!! I figured it out--we're both at secularhomeschool!! ah, doesn't that feel better??

More later. I just found an SHS-mothering rabbit hole, completely randomly and by accident...

____

Okay, rabbit warren explored. It is totally strange how people are connected and don't even realize it. (yeah, yeah, six degrees or whatever. Did anyone hear/read the story last year that it's actually closer to 4.5-5 degrees of separation??)

Adaline'sMama, HOLY CRAP, with the freaking birthday party food!!! We had about 2-3 times as many kids as I was picturing because I'm an idiot. But we *still* have leftovers (wtf?). I purposely got only a wee bitty pint of coconut ice cream for the boys and myself, so that's gone, and there are only 3 pieces of bday cake left (which I won't eat). Even though my cake was *nearly* allergen-free, I made a specific brand of brownies for a couple of our friends, and that was my "backup" cake for when kids asked for seconds. I need to cut them into smaller pieces and store them in the deep freeze for park days when my boys don't get to eat others' birthday treats. And to get them away from me. But chips and ice cream together...EW!

Buzzer--I hope you recover quickly. I hate puking sooo much.

Nillarilla, I'm sorry for the early iPod death and hope for a speedy replacement. Could you run in intervals corresponding to blocks? (Run 3, walk2, or something?) I run on a trail that crosses city streets, so I've done that in the past...but yeah, I'm loving my RunDouble phone app for C25K prompts and progress reports and would be way less inclined to run without it. :/

AFM--I ate more than TWICE my calorie allotment today. Much of that was from a soda I had no business drinking, but it went SO well with the crazy-caloric pizza that I had to have both---it was a wasted day anyway, right? I pledge to be a wee bit better tomorrow...but that other half of my pizza is waiting for me. hide.gif

Barefootmama - I hear you on moving. My hubby was active duty Army when we got married. We decided it wasn't the life for us for various reasons including the moving. Since he got out, we've ended up moving roughly every 2 years - mostly because of job opportunities. Joke's on us!

I got to the gym yesterday and walked on the treadmill for 35 minutes. My weight is still up this morning so unfortunately I might be reporting a gain tomorrow morning. I'm bummed about that. I have to do something about my diet for sure. So far I've just been watching portion size and not counting calories but I suspect my luck has run out and I'm hitting a plateau. I guess it was bound to happen.

I'm having a really hard week too. I've lost and gained the same pound all week. I got AF again and I am still on the new birth control.  My hunch was right about my thyroid. the tests came back saying my levels were so high they were almost toxic. I've been working with my doctor to get down to a comfortable level. Meanwhile dieting has become increasingly harder for me. I'm wondering if I should have just stopped with the first challenge. I never intended on doing the low carb for more than the original eight wees. It's getting really hard.

I had DQ ice cream last night but I still stayed within my calorie allotment. I'm down a tidbit hoping it's a tidbit more tomorrow. I'm going to use my husband's iPod today for the C25K w1d3. I checked my graph on spark people and I have like a zigzag going on but the general trend is down so that's good. I had my initial loss in my first week and then it bounced back up then down, then up, now down. I fit into a smaller size pants when I went shopping for interview clothes, a tad tight but they fit! So exciting. Anyone have any good butt shaping exercises. I have a really flat but I would like it a little rounder to fill out the pants ya know?

Took about a hundred trips up/down the stairs organizing and putting away, including about 5 loads of laundry. Made up two beds. My shoulders and arms are actually worn OUT from all of the blinds stuff--OY! I reduced the calorie total in MFP because I think it was wayyyy overestimating things. (It's actually a problem I noticed the first time I really used MFP back in January; their calorie counts are way high. I adjust mine downward all the time.) I was so busy doing all of that, I didn't really eat much like I normally would. I ended up with a really great calorie deficit, too. Somehow a completely unplanned day turned out to be one of my best so far this challenge! We'll see how well that holds up over Birthday Weekend, though. (maybe I should use whole eggs in the cake so I can't eat it...)

Now on to the persies...

Milk, I'm sorry you had such a crappy crappy day. IDK if I should hope the biopsy tells you something or not--I guess it kind of depends on what the possibilities/treatments are, huh? YESSSS for seeing a change yourself!! That's got to be sooo motivating. (and yes, seeing my scale lower is motivating to me; it's been lower even this week, but I don't want to jinx my Monday weigh-in since I could screw that up this Birthday Weekend, yk?)

Buzzer, dealing with puking children is a perfectly acceptable reason for not hanging in there for a day or two. I hope your DD gets and stays better ASAP.

lairaja, I also happen to think a 40th birthday is a pretty damn special time and deserves some debauchery. (Please tell me there was at least some non-food-related debauchery!) Good for you for getting your kids to the zoo today. I'd have told my kids to watch Netflix or play quietly downstairs while mommy "slept" all day, lol!)

Amanda, I will often make a smoothie if I've worked out harder than I'd anticipated. It's sound fitness/nutrition, too. For hard workouts, you do need to fuel your muscles to recover; the ideal fuel is at least 60% carb and 20% protein. (I make a small-ish fruit smoothie with a scoop of protein powder. It's nutritious and FAST and not too high in calories.) By the sound of it, you maybe didn't even have the energy to toss some fruit in a blender, though!

claybear, you are SO close. What kind of self-treat do you have planned for when you break that barrier?

tracylee, that's awesome about the full week of exercise--WTG! You should totally inquire about The Biggest Loser. ;)

trekkingirl, that ROCKS. I've got nearly all of my potential loss to go before I'm at my pre-pgcy weight with DS2 (135) and still a few before that mark with DS1 (145). But I'm trying to get knocked up, so I wouldn't mind not reaching either one for quite a while! :)

LET'S GO RED!!!

Thank you! That's a great idea. Even if I'm tired I could make a smoothie or talk my dh into making one for me. :)  I'll give it a try on Wednesday after my hockey classes. I like bananas so I'll freeze a few to add to the smoothie.

Another question. What protein powder do you use?  I can't have too much soy. The phytoestrogens mess with my hormones. Even some of the whey powders have soy in them. :(

That does!! It was so bothering me and I had no idea what ONE was. I knew I recognized you from somewhere though!!

My podiatry appointment went well. Apparently, the only two options for plantar's warts are prescription cream (one normally treats cancer, the other genital wart. LOL!!), and the other is surgery that would take me off my feet for 5 weeks. I opted for the cream. Hopefully it will work and my foot will be back to normal in two months. IT really isn't bothering me as much so I think I'm going to try one of my videos tomorrow, when DH goes back to work. Does anyone else have a difficult time sticking to your usual exercise schedule when your DH is home? He's such a bad influence on me! He passed a review panel for his promotion last week so we have been celebrating all weekend. I'm pretty sure the scale is going to be up, but I'm going to try to forget that and forge ahead. Is it two weeks of misses or gains and we're out?

I hope everyone had a better weekend health-wise than I did!! :)

I am interested in belonging to the next group of losers. I have three children, all breastfed, and grown bigger now, but I nursed for a long time, home schooled, and was very actively a Suzuki violin and flute mom as well as a LLL Leader and an RN IBCLC lactation consultant here in Vermont. ( I answered questions as an expert for Mothering for a while re: breastfeeding until carpal tunnel got the best of my wrist).

Is there a next go around, and can I join? I am losing weight, but would love a community to join in with.  Kindly, Kathleen RN IBCLC in Vermont

welcome vermontlc. Sounds like MDC is the place for you! There will probably be another challenge in seven weeks? Keep an eye out for the next one! Meanwhile, I'm sure you'll find lots of topics around the boards that you'd be interested in. There is a section called Finding Your Tribe where you may even find local friends!

Decided I'm going to start C25K tomorrow. Hopefully that will cushion the possible disappointment from my scale tomorrow morning!

C25K week one complete today! I'm going to be sore tomorrow since I did 2 running days in a row. I think tomorrow might just be some light strength and stretching exercises or a short yoga video online. After my run and my shower I was lower than I have ever been so let's hope the scale reflects that tomorrow.

Amanda, I use a rice protein powder, but have been told by friends that it's like eating chalk. I'm intolerant to soy and casein, so most proteins are out for me, and it's been so long since I had anything else that I think it tastes fine. I get it at Whole Foods, but found an online source for cheaper/unit, but I had to buy so much it wasn't budget-friendly, if that makes sense. I've also heard good things about pea protein powders, but haven't tried any.

PNC, I'm pretty sure it's just not reporting for 2 weeks. Not sure there was consensus on booting gainers. As for plantar warts, I've had a doozy of one that had to be surgically removed in high school. It was the middle of basketball season, and I swear I was only out of commission for a week, *maybe* 10 days at most. I was a starter and our team was small, so I played (and practiced) hard all the time, and it was fine. I just kept it "packed" and taped really well. 5 weeks is ridiculous IMO, but I guess it could depend where it is? (mine was on the ball of my foot, btwn my 1st and 2nd tarsals). I hope the cream works for you, though!

Trekkingirl, that is scary about the thyroid! Take it easy and if you need to drop, don't feel like you owe anyone here an obligation--your only obligation is to your own health! I hope you and your doc get ALL your hormones straightened out very, very soon.

nillarilla, YESS for fitting into a smaller size! And for finishing week1 of c25k--I am loving it (and i'm in the middle of week5).

welcome vermontLC. Maybe you'll still get some moral support here even though you're not officially part of the challenge yet.

allison, I love your resolve to do something positive regardless of the scale. (see note above to nillarilla about my affection for c25k, lol)

AFM, another day of crappy eating, BUT I did C25K w5d2, which includes two 8-min running intervals and I felt GREAT. Even had my fastest pace yet for the duration of the 2nd interval! AND I didn't have to take *any* anti-inflammatories for my feet afterward--so those muscles are getting trained and strengthened nicely. I did weigh 1lb more this am than yesterday, and even if I go up another whole pound tomorrow, it'll still be a net loss for the week (but I hope hope hope it doesn't jump up). My mom leaves early tomorrow morning, so no more going out to eat (we had some awesome BBQ this evening) or celebration food (cake is gone; brownies are safely stored in the deep freeze. OH! DH gave me the go-ahead to register for the Mother's Day 5K here--w00t! It will be my first race in over 5 years. orngbiggrin.gif

My right shoulder has been giving me problems for nearly a week now, and it's getting worse. I also have a thoracic vertebra (well, at least one) out, and probably a rib head there, too, judging from my breathing pain this afternoon. I've been working really hard to strengthen my back and other core muscles lately to minimize this crap. Hopefully my chiro can hook me up with some relief tomorrow and help me figure out WTF I'm doing to that mid-back area. Not sure if I'll get a workout in tomorrow, but I'm hoping...

So apparently we are so awesome that I had to create a waiting list!  ROTFLMAO.gif

I'm actually get PMs asking to sign up for the next challenge.  So - we now have a wait (weight?) list!  I think there was another post a while back where someone else asked too, but I wasn't able to find it.

Anyway.  A pretty minor loss for me.  Down to 175.8  BUT!  175.8lbs converts to 79.9kgs, which means that I am officially a seventies girl!!!  I can't even remember the last time I was in the seventies.  It would have to be at least 2 years!  I'm super excited.  Oh, and that's even with AF hanging around, so I am pretty freakin happy.

My rings are tight so hopefully I'm looking at water weight and I'll be back down a bit by tomorrow - already pounding water today!!!

I revamped my game plan though - must tighten up - I know where I coud be doing better!
