I was diagnosed with Hypothyriodism and put on Synthroid.  That didn't work so they sent me to a specialist and put me on Armour.  I have only been taking it a week, and he told me to do do a low carb/no card diet.  This is really hard, considering all I eat is carbs.  I really need help, b/c my husband has agreed to do this with me.  I need help on some meals that can be a life changing thing for my husband and girls.  Please help.

I'm hypo and doing low carb. I went to the library and got a book called LIFE WITHOUT BREAD.

I take 200mcg of synthroid. I don't use armour. The pig hormone connection just seems weird to me. Talked to my doctor about the differences and he seems to like synthroid? I eat yogurt, whole milk, steak, chicken, eggs, sausage, all kinds of veggies and salads, lots of soups.

Sounds like you got a good doctor because armour is a thousand time better than synthroid.

The great thing about amrour is it starts to take effect right away where as synthroid takes 6 weeks. Much easier to adjust doses etc. I take armour, levo ( to make one nurse shut up) and metformin. None of this helps me to lose weight though. I think it helps to not gain anymore maybe.

I've been doing the no/low carb and am pretty stuck. I also have pcos and like no metabolism :(  It's really tough. I feel like a phenomenon. I swear anyone else would look like a twig. I also don't eat gluten as I'm allergic. So leaves me really limited.

Right now I drink 2 atkins shakes (really 1-3 depending on the day) a HUGE steak with blue cheese dressing. Sometimes I will share an orange with someone and eat a whole can of beans or a whole can of artichokes. I don't write it down anymore since I know what my goals are. Sometimes I will eat a slice of cheese. If I feel sick though with migraines or just exhausted I know I need some more carbs and I am ok with that because my body NEEDS it. I've been doing it a few months now and down 20pounds but it's been stalled out for a few weeks.

why do you think armour is much better than synthroid?

I have hypothyroid and insulin resistance, and my endocrinologist told me to go on a low carb diet.  Today is the first day, so I can't really say too much about it yet.  Anyway, she refused to put me on Armour, she will only prescribe Synthroid.

My doc refused armour too. My kids picked out some of those junky lunchable cheese and cracker packs from the store today and I chuckled when I saw they are made by Armour. They are also famous for making a canned ham product that's comparable to spam!

Are you eating veggies? I think veggies are really, really important on a low carb diet.

I'm not on any of these meds but read natural thyroid works better the just T-4 replacement, I read this on the Stop the Thyroid Madness blog and found a lot of what the site says make sense to me. I also do not love supporting the big pharma companies. I've also read that it's the only meds that actually work to replace thyroid hormone in it's entirety. It is freaky that it's from a pig tho. Oui.

I am lucky enough to have the auto immune disease called Hashimotos. Cannot convince a doc that my weight hasn't budged on cal reduction or working out all the time. That's just one symptom. It's not fun.

Meat, veggies and rice is what you'd do on gluten-free which is close to low-carb. I do eggs in the am and fruit and cheese for lunch. But I'm just trying the gluten free thing. Might have to soon so I thought I'd practice! Have you read about GF and hypo? Interesting stuff! Why did your doc put you on low carb? Just curious...
