At 460 odd posts, the old thread is getting a bit long.  Kicking over to a new thread to make life easier.

You can find the old thread here.

lilacvioletiris 04-10-2012 04:11 AM

Sorry I didn't get checked in yesterday.  I had a crying breakdown last night over Easter "grandparent" photos and "pregnancy" announcements I saw on facebook and took a break of online interaction for the night.

I lost!  237.2 pounds and on AF too.  Yeah!  Go RED TEAM!

teresaresa 04-10-2012 06:02 AM

Sigh. I suppose you have to be fair smile.gif I'm doing my own challenge, but it's really not fun being accountable only to myself! Would any of the waiting list ladies want to start a new thread? Not sure I want to wait until May - too much to lose. In the meantime, thanks Milk for the offer to challenge off-thread - you're on lady!!

teresaresa 04-10-2012 06:16 AM

Just read this. Thought all might find it empowering (and enraging) as I did: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/04/09/ashley-judd-slaps-media-in-the-face-for-speculation-over-her-puffy-appearance.html.

Subbing.

allisonrose 04-10-2012 07:30 AM

I was hoping to start week 2 of c25k today but I donated blood yesterday and it left me more rundown than I thought it would. I haven't donated since before I got pregnant with my first and didn't realize it would be a different ball game with two little ones. Unfortunately I think donating again will have to wait till my kids are older. Of course, my 14 month old has made waking in the middle of the night an art form in the past couple of weeks so that does not help.

Sorry I didn't check in yesterday! I unfortunately have gone up - 189.4 - I think it was Easter candy and my husband's birthday celebrations that threw me. One more dinner out tonight then hopefully I'll be better this week.

Has anyone done the cabbage soup diet? Some friends were talking about it this weekend, and I had never heard of it. Something to help curb my sweet tooth would be great. Maybe south beach?

LCBMAX 04-10-2012 10:49 AM

Subbed!

tropicana 04-10-2012 11:31 AM

got it. 144.6 this morning. today i ate starting at 7 am, about 1/4 lb. turkey, fruit salad (with no yogurt), strong black coffee, ice water, oatmeal with more fruit ... and then for lunch, salad with sunflower kernels and full fat ranch dressing, and another bowl of fruit salad (no yogurt).

that's it, and i'm done eating for the day at noon.

walked for 1 mile this morning, have a busy afternoon ahead with kid stuff and going places. i will drink more coffee and iced tea (no sweeteners or creamers).

SURELY i will get to 143 by morning, right??

BarefootMama99 04-10-2012 02:31 PM

Tracylee - the south beach phase one was pretty tough, but if you do it without cheating, it REALLY works for curbing your sweets cravings.  I liked south beach, but it was very tough for me to stick to because I don't eat eggs, and minimal dairy.  But good stuff and worth trying out for sure!

I'm not on the waiting list greensad.gif but I would like to join the challenge. I agree, waiting till May seems to far and I would like to get started and stay motivated knowing that losing weight is a team effort.

didn't work. 144.0. i'm on a serious plateau..

Dmitrizmom 04-11-2012 07:03 AM

Tropicana - that's still a little better than 1/2 a pound in a day!  thumb.gif  It will come off.

I do feel your pain tho... I had my first under 200 reading 2 weeks ago... and I'm still not under 195. It is driving me nuts.  My goal weight seems so far off and I feel like I'm working so hard to not have better numbers.

Activity report: Boot camp on Monday - 60 minutes, Tuesday was kettle bell (went up to 22 lbs) for 45 minutes and then 40 minutes on the treadmill for a variety pack, today is boot camp for another 60 minutes.

teresaresa 04-11-2012 08:21 AM

Anyone on the waiting list is welcome to join me here! Thanks again to Milk for the brilliant idea :)

I did south beach years ago and if worked but was a lot of work to prepare the right foods after spending money on them. Maybe it's worth trying again. I don't eat meat so it's harder to do meals without eating lots of eggs.

Next week will be a loss! Sorry blue team!

allisonrose 04-11-2012 10:14 AM

I did w2d1 of c25k. I was a bit bummed that I struggled a bit on the last two jogging intervals. It might be because I am still a bit low on energy today or because it is the beginning of a new week and is intended to be pushing it a bit. Any thoughts - especially from those who have done or are further along in c25k?

mommy22IN 04-11-2012 10:30 AM

Monday I walked an hour pushing a double storller up and down hills.  then last night I took it easy and did some weight lifting at home for a half an hour

Amandamarie 04-11-2012 01:51 PM

The only exercise I got in the last couple of days was playing a Kinect game with my ds. Tonight, I have my 1 1/2 hours of full gear hockey classes and tomorrow I have stick time so I'll make up for that.  I am worried about the late night snacking though. My dh and dd are out of town and after my ds goes to bed, I'm up looking for something to snack on.

Sending prayers to you, Adaline's Mama.

Milk8shake 04-11-2012 03:44 PM

Oh heavens.  That is awful.  Thanks for letting us know Christine.

Adaline's Mama, you're in my thoughts.

claybear 04-11-2012 04:14 PM

Oh no. That is so terrible. Holding you and your family in my thoughts and prayers AM.

BarefootMama99 04-11-2012 04:27 PM

Tracylee - southbeach is pro-eggs for sure (I am allergic to them though, so that is a no go for me!).  I agree that SB is hard to stick to and a lot of food prep, but I have used their phase one as a sugar-detox periodically and been very happy with it in that context.  Doing the work for a couple weeks once or twice a year is worth it to me to keep the sugar cravings at bay.  Also, one of the other ladies on this thread (sorry, drawing a blank on the name!) said that drinking water can help with sweet cravings, and that has been helping me alot lately.

tropicana 04-11-2012 05:16 PM

condolences to Adaline's mom. that's awful. makes everything else pale in comparison.

...

my trivial news is that i binged today, basically. nothing god awful. but i grilled hot dogs for the kids and ate one too. that's the first time since, like november. i have mentioned on the other thread that i've been dieting since november. i have lost about 43 pounds, and am trying for the last 7 to make it an even 50. i am already down to a decent weight. but trying for that "vanity weight." and it is TOUGH.

(for reference, i started at 187 in november and am now at 144. i'm 5'6 1/2".

i have been so strict on (not) eating. today i went off that. i ate a little bit of Easter candy too.

maybe just maybe i will reset my metabolism by going "off" the diet for just one day.

maybe maybe??

i will keep you posted.

in any event, i will update again tomorrow.

stegenrae 04-11-2012 05:20 PM

Thank you for posting that, christinelin. How heartbreaking.

For those contemplating South Beach (or other versions of low-carb/sugar), I really like http://www.kalynskitchen.com/ for easy food prep and recipe ideas. I happened to find her when looking for GF blogs (she happens to be GF also), and since I really liked SB, have used lots of her ideas for my own food creations. Also, SB doesn't really go into this, but all those artificial sweeteners still trigger blood sugar/pancreas reactions and can cause some other problems. Stevia and xylitol are great low/no-cal natural sweeteners you can use instead. (the chemical kind can be scary--Splenda/sucralose causes seizures for me, and aspartame does the same for my BFF.) /soapbox ;)

My right calf is still pretty sore today, so even though it's my run day, I think I'll wait and hope that it's not raining tomorrow evening when dh gets back from a business trip so I can pick it back up. I think I'll try a video workout this evening to keep some activity going, though.

lilacvioletiris 04-11-2012 07:01 PM

I am so sorry to read of Adaline's Mama loss.  Loss is always hard but much more so with a little one.

Need to get some sleep.  Been just exhausted the last few days.  AF is over and I should be on the up and up.
