Hi Dingo(e)s!

Thanks for the fresh thread Nic!

Swim Geo Swim!

Real - I hope the acupuncture is as wonderful for you as I've found it in the past.  I think it can really relieve sadness and I would guess that it can target depression too.  grouphug.gif for the friend's sit.  It's hard to make friends, then pile on having small children and a full time job and house and husband and it can be out of the question to even figure out when and how you can even cross paths with new people much less befriend them.

Emma - Hope your blisters are healing!

Lofty - Ahhh, release!  Bummer to have less $ but freedom is priceless right?

I'm still trying to kick this cough/snot/hoarseness thing.  But since RR is not going to happen I'm going to refocus in on diet.  Yesterday and Saturday were more partying.  Saturday in Seattle with Ali G to see Yo Gabba Gabba.  That was interesting.  It was rock concert loud which frankly seemed dangerous considering their audience of toddlers, but at least it was brief.  All I could think was to wonder what the people's faces were doing behind their big foam suits?  Do they enjoy these shows? Resent having to do them?  Love kids?  Not love kids?  It was remarkably hard to tell.  Alison had a good time after the initial shock of how loud and bright it all was wore off.  And then we ate out breakfast lunch and dinner and concluded the day with a piece of cheesecake on the ferry.  yesterday wasn't quite so overboard but still, cookies were involved.  So today I have no excuses and my lunch for work is already packed.  Tomorrow I'll go back to boxing regardless of how I feel because I just miss it and the camaraderie.

I'm here.....

skied this weekend (20km for anyone who remembers my drama last week..... I ended up hardly sleeping thursday night (got up at 330am for the day on friday, not on purpose). So I just couldn't figure out how to circle anything other than 20km on friday night when registering.

Very.very.very fun. Why am I not Canadian? My family wasn't the only freak family there -- and by freak I mean neither of us are top notch skiers and yet we take our kiddos skiing.

The one bummer:  Erin's been on an antifungal medicine. It isn't fun. The rash almost entirely cleared up and then she was off of it for about 3-4 days and bam. Back again. Do another 2 weeks. Thursday was her last dose. Rash almost gone, but not quite. Well after saturday's race: bam it's back. Call in to the dermatologist. Dr. Google suggests that she might need meds for 4-6 weeks straight. same med, just the way it works she might need it for a longer duration than she has been getting. Downside: it can cause liver complications and it can make your taste buds temporariily less functional. She's been complaining of the later and we thought she was just making a fit to make a fit. So....we kept her home today (her choice). Good lord. It's clear that this med. does clear it up, but it doesn't kill the fungus -- it works by keeping it from reproducing. In my nonmedical opinion, she needs to be on it longer so that all the fungus dies before we take her off.

More later. Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

kerc, your description of the fungal response to the med is very familiar.  My RP's daughter also dealt with this. Let me ask her tonight, I'll email you.  She ended up doing a triple whammy on it -- both med and more natural stuff -- to finally kick it.

Hoping that which makes my dept most dysfunctional misses the faculty meeting Thursday.  Crossing fingers.

Will swim after office hours.

OH MY GOSH! If we could just get this over with. My poor child. Teased by the big kids. Teased/questioned by the little kids. Random ladies come up to us to offer advice in restaurants. Erin would like to cut off that section of her body and move on. Frankly I don't blame her. So anything you can add would be fabulous.

OK, emailed so that the details get to you faster and more accurately.

I just make 10 phone calls looking for a PT appt earlier than 3/20.  I got one for 3/13, mostly by begging.  Seriously, don't people use PT to get moving again?  Waiting 3 weeks is ok?  I've been texting a dr friend for recommendations, and I just vented.  She's going over there directly to pull some strings for me.  blush.gif  I don't get the medical system, and it's wrong that this is how it works. (Though, I guess having a friend in the med school maybe is turning out the be beneficial outside of limitless supplies of free Alieve)

Kerc - bleh, what a nightmare. I cant remember, have you tried the topical anti-fungal for an extended period? My experience w/ diflucan is that it doesnt help. DS had a yeast rash on his leg last summer/fall that we had to put topical (and a particular one, per Dh's instructions) cream on twice a day for 6 weeks, which we lapsed on several times, hence the "fall/spring". It would almost go away and we'd slack on the cream and it would come back. But it finally went. Maybe you could do oral and topical for 6 weeks?

Geo, good luck with the physio. It sucks that the system works on "who you know", but I'm grateful that you know someone who can hopefullyngetnou in sooner. Fingers crossed for you.

kerc, I'd be inclined to hit the rash from lots of angles at once. Topical, systemic, dietary (low sugar, probiotics, pre-/pro-biotic foods). Hopefully while the med stops it from reproducing, the other stuff supports her body to kill it off.

I still can't find the missing salami, even after 8 hours sleep. headscratch.gif Today at least there are no phones in the fridge.

RR- Run tomorrow. Dropping kids to school, then running before work and a potluck lunch with my health care assistant students. I'm back to teaching nursing next week

MelW--glad to hear you had lots of sleep. It will be interesting to hear where you find the salami, unless it ran off with my missing tie towels.

kerc--ugh! Hope you find something that works.

Plady--I think the acupunture will help with the depression-ish stuff but secondarily. I'm quite convinced that if I can get the hormones in check, everything else (depression, mood swings, acne!!) will take a hike. Hope your cold moves on, and quickly!

Geo--did you swim?

RR: none. Still sore from the long run so I'm taking the day off. Would have gone swimming but the gym's hot tub is (finally) being fixed and the pool is closed all week. The hot tub hasn't worked in months, so we'll all be glad to have it back, I hope. It was hot but didn't have any functioning jets when I belonged there two years ago.

NRR: stressed about Disney (mostly the $$, some about crowds, disappointed children, disappointed spouse), upcoming conferences (the papers! the cost! I have to socialize and network and not act socially awkward in hopes of maybe landing some more adjunct work!), J's birthday (on Monday! may Amazon deliver the gifts within a week!), and on top of that, AF arrived after a mere three weeks again. Tomorrow: another round of acupuncture, more RRL tea, and some time on a stationary bike. Also, party store with the almost-3yo for a few supplies...provided she cooperates (unlike today). Must. breathe.

Subbing here too...just a few days left of Mom and Dad's visit. Everything is off the rails, but we knew it would be. Expect everything to buckle down hard next week. Coinciding with the return of the heat. No more excuses; time to get out early again.

MelW, did you accidentally toss the salami? I've done similar with such things as yogurt back in my less-well-rested days on the farm.

All kinds of interesting developments here. I will be interested to see what's around the next corner for us. I expect it will be a couple months before I really know anything, but change ahead. What's new, right?

Kid + dh at the dermatologist. Apparently she was "off" yesterday and was worried because no one told us she wasn't in the office. So. anyone know any good dermatologists who want to work in my town? Apparently the hospital is hiring and then this lady won't be so overworked.

Missing salami?

What you need is my Leah Lu to visit. That kid LOVES salami, summer sausage, bacon, ham....She'll sniff it out.

Jo: do you remember when we used to have to have boot camp for Erin?  Meaning neither of us is disciplined enough to be hard nosed about every.little.detail.  But get sassy enough with us and we can make it happen for a short period in order to remind you of all the normal rules/customs associated with living in a family. And although it is stressful to say the least to start boot camp, the results have always been worth it.

melw, the good news about the lost salami is that it is cured meat, not raw poultry. I hope it turns up in the most pleasant of ways asap.

real, I hope you get a break soon -you do sound like you are running on empty.

jo, Enjoy the last of your visit. We do not have any visitors on the horizon and tickets just went up so I don't foresee any for a bit. Productive but sightly lonely times ahead.

kerc, I hope the rash clears soon and remains confined to E.

geo, did you swim? On the docs being hard to get into... We obviously had to find a new regular doctor when we moved. We could not get into see her last year when we need school physicals so I called early this year. Yes, already for fall sports. I cannot take my kids in on the same day because we are still considered new patients and she only sees one new patient a day because of the paperwork she will have to do. I get it from her point of view but it is a royal pain to have to make so many trips out there. I chose a family practice doc partially for convenience.

plady, don't get too beat up!

RR: I got a quick run in last night and I think new shoes may be needed.
NRR: homeschool work is doing me in today. The little people are cranky and ill tempered.

You don’t owe them an explanation, just a response.

Seriously? She only sees one new patient per day, even if they're the same family? That is LAME. And helloooo...the big thing in the hospital these days is patient and family-centered care. That is SO not patient or family-centered. I am irked.gif on your behalf.

biglaugh.gif about the salami.

I survived my three in a row, although last night was pretty rough. I am not thrilled because I have a whopping one night off (tonight) and then have to go back tomorrow night. Bah. We had skills lab yesterday, so I had to sit in that for four hours before working 8 hours starting at 11. I hate starting at 11. Everybody is pretty much ready to sleep and instead you have to go in, turn on all the lights, do assessments, and generally just bug them a lot when you would rather leave them alone to sleep. Skills lab involved two hours of lactation inservice, not my fav. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge breastfeeding proponent, but our lactation consultants drive us a little batty. Especially because they don't work nights but yet like to continually blame night shift whenever anything goes remotely wrong with breastfeeding, or a mom decides to give a pacifier or some formula. Sigh. I won't go into my rant here, just suffice to say that they are not our favorite people. orngtongue.gif So I came out of skills lab and went on the floor to a baby that needed a blood draw right away and another baby who was having blood sugar issues. BUT...get this! my one patient last night had a vaginal breech delivery! Our doctors don't do vaginal breeches, but she came to us because her doctor (who practices at another hospital) was teaching our residents how to do a vaginal breech delivery. Some of our nurses were a little traumatized by it lol.gif but I think it's awesome! And on top of it, she did it unmedicated, and didn't have any tears or anything! Unbelievable, and way cool.

I was going to go up skiing tomorrow, but I took the new skis in to get the bindings adjusted on Saturday and they're not done yet. They need a boot for the binding adjustment, so I can't just go ski my other skis. I'm a little bummed (they told me they would probably be done today), but it's probably for the best since I should really get a little more sleep and a workout. They've had almost two feet of snow in the past three or four days, though! Oh well. We're going up on Saturday, so I'll just have to suck it up and wait.

Wow, March is already here!

Kerc, hope dd gets some relief already for that itch. Geez.

Jooj, so glad you're having a wonderful visit with your mom and dad. thumb.gif

Plady, I'm so impressed you're out boxing. I can't get my mojo to go back to TKD and we are so close to our black belt. But now that we're not watching kids and we have more time on our hands, I think we'll head back.

Mel38, can you take me off the race list for this week. I just can't get my mojo and I'm so sad. My step-dad is working it so that would be fun to see him. (He's a ham operator.) My mom would watch the kids - fun for them. And it's through my old stomping grounds with lots of friends. But...

my AF is back. WTF? I get 10 days off out of 7 weeks. I slept a hard 10 hours last night. Sigh. Doc called to say he needs to see me to over bloodwork results so I guess I'll learn something soon. Anyway, I know I can run 5K...I'm just so sleepy all. the.time.

Real, my 3 weeks cycle started about 2 years ago, I think. And it has pretty much stayed 3 weeks. Hope yours normalizes for you.

Still working on our septic tank issues. Digging in the dirt a lot - and it's not for a garden. Okay, that's enough of being a downer tonight. Woo-hoo! At least my guys are super happy driving around a friend's mule for a couple weeks and doing their schoolwork without a problem.

RR: Soon, I hope.

Lofty, I hope you doc has some answers about your cycles for you. 10 days off is not cool.

I'm glad my salami saga is providing some entertainment. I checked the garbage, compost and recycling. Still missing. At the risk of providing further innuendo, it was several inches of salami. I had a ridiculous argument with hubby about why I hadn't checked to see if it rolled under the frige (too big), but grabbed a flashlight and checked just to make him shut up. I maybe needing Leah Lu's services. It's been 2 1/2 days.

Gaye, I can totally relate to the frustration of being blamed for someone's 3 am decision to give formula. I've always thought that hospitals most need a lactation consultant between 1 and 5 am.

RR- Ran today, 5k again. I'm looking forward to being in better running shape so I don't always need a day off after each run. Maybe a couple more weeks?

NRR- More miscellaneous job indecision- this time about a 7 week clinical teaching contract that is a 90ish minute drive away. They are desperate enough to have offered commute and accommodation costs, but I would likely need to be away from very early Tuesday until Friday afternoon. And drop my Friday class that runs until end of June. I have a call in to the dean to see if they would consider splitting it so I could just teach the Tues-Wed and keep the Friday class. We'll see. Meanwhile, the hospital has called me for both days and nights four days in a row. There seems to be no shortage of work.

Good things about today:

1. My daughter's school is excited about my proposal to offer a guerilla gardening workshop during the next "compass week". I pitched seed bombs, moss graffiti and pothole planting.

2. I got the offer of a seat in UVic's master of public health program, social policy stream. Not just any offer, but a very kind, personal email in advance of the official offers because I needed to make a decision about the offer from my second choice program.

3. The dean found someone local to take the clinical course, so I avoided the possible commute while looking good for having offered to help.

4. I found the salami! It was in the freezer, hidden under some strawberries.

Yay, Mel! Sounds like a good day all around!

mel38~Can you add the Runnin' of the Green Lucky 7k to the race list for me for this Sunday (the 10th)?

On my fourth shift in five nights, and I am tired. Fortunately, it's going by relatively quickly...it's already 0230 and I have busy stuff to do at 0300 and 0500...

My skis weren't done, so I didn't go up skiing, which was probably a blessing in disguise. Instead, I took massive amounts of recycling to the recycle center, went to my track workout, and took a long nap in preparation for working tonight.

rr~4.5 miles total at track, 2 mile warm-up followed by 4 x 800 with 200 recoveries. It went pretty well, which encourages me for the aforementioned 7k on Sunday...

Morning mamas,

So apparently the last post I wrote never made it, I'm sure due to user error.  Oh well, I hope you could each feel a little love.

I'm still fighting this cough thing and boxing nearly did me in on Tuesday so I'm staying home again.  I may even go back to bed after I get the kids on the bus!  I have lots of things I could do instead but I really really really want to be done with this thing!

NRR: Last night dh and I attended this special performance by a guy who is an aporter and medium that one of the guys from the theatre is doing a documentary on (sorry grammar foul).  Basically he says that the ascendant masters (Buddha, Jesus etc) send messages through him via gemstones and other small objects that appear mysteriously in his mouth.  So he chatted for a while and then went behind a curtain to commune with the guides and then came out on stage and spit gemstones all over the place.  Then he gave them all away to the audience.  I thought it was interesting, dh thought it was hysterical that anyone ever might believe the guy. The documentary is basically about how and when and whether a transition can be made between skepticism and belief and it seems like dh and I are nicely spaced on the continuum.

Zone 8-9, actually lol.gif

Plady, the medium sounds fascinating. If only for the conversation with DH on the drive home. I hope the cough resolves soon, whether through magic gemstones or rest and chicken soup.

I ran today and am trying not to get discouraged that I lose steam after about 5k and still feel a bit sore the next day. I'm only two weeks back into running after once a month runs since um....October? so I need to stop beating myself up. My main goal right now is to be able to go for an hour by the end of the March when the weekly trail running group starts again. Since the 5k runs are taking me 35+ minutes right now, it's not like I need to extend so much to do it.

Must finish reading list and syllabus for next week's class. I'm finding every excuse to distract myself right now. My Blackboard site is looking very wonderful and full of helpful links and articles for the students, but they'll still need the reading list.

Wow, congrats, MelW! That's great news all around!

Plady, behind the curtain and spitting gems, huh? headscratch.gif

My RR yesterday was swimming from the dhow to the beach in the Gulf of Oman. We drove across the UAE and took a 5-hour cruise along the coast just south of the Strait of Hormuz. Some excitement for the parents. And a little seasickness for everyone. But it was fun.

Today is their final day here. We have lunch plans and I suppose we will probably shop a little before packing them up. It has been a really good visit, and in just 3 months, kids and I will be back for summer. Dh is looking at furnished apartments for us, as there were enough indications over the two weeks that it would be best for us to have our space.

I'm so glad you've had such a great visit, Jo. I've really enjoyed your pics on FB. smile.gif

It's been a interesting and good day around here. I started off with a text from my sister before I woke up telling me to call her (usually not a good sign, we don't talk on the phone much). So I called her, only for her to tell me absolutely nothing at all. shrug.gif Um, ok? I skipped the 9:15 spin class that I usually go to in favor of the noon spin class so that I could be home at 10 to buy New Kids on the Block tickets as soon as they went on sale. bag.gif I got the tickets and am ridiculously excited about the concert. redface.gif I had dinner and drinks with a couple of good friends from nursing school, which was great until DS started losing it, so we hightailed it home to get him to bed.

I belong to a FB group for local women who do endurance and triathlon, and one of the members is Dimity McDowell (of Run Like a Mother and Runners World). So, she posted today that she's doing a sports bra review for RW and is looking for some wear testers in certain sizes. One of them was my size, so I emailed her, and next thing you know, I was over at her house picking up three brand new sports bras to try out and the best part of all is that I get to keep them! Way cool, huh?! So, look for my wear testing comments in an upcoming issue of RW... orngtongue.gif

We're going up skiing tomorrow, and I'm excited and scared because we are supposed to get a major winter storm. Excited for the skiing possibilities, scared for the driving! Hopefully it's not too bad when we need to be on the road. I'm planning on heading out early and staying for dinner. If it comes down to it, I have a place we can stay in the mountains tomorrow night, but that would mean leaving the dog by himself for the night (would not be good) and potentially missing my race on Sunday. Wish us luck!

rr~The usual...30 minute dreadmill hill workout, followed by spin class. Except, since it's Friday and I had to go to the noon class, that means spin/pilates! Hadn't done the pilates thing in a while. Ouch.
