7/3 - 30 minutes total. Walking on beach and laps in pool
7/4 - 40 minutes total. 20 minutes swimming laps 20 minutes running
7/5 - nada
7/6 - driving home from vacay
7/7 - 50 minutes on the stairs at the gym
7/8 - 110 minutes   30 minutes intense weights at the gym.  Then 80 minutes running at the park with my daughter. 
7/9 - 40 minute hard run

7/10 - 25 minutes grass - push mower

7/11 - 50 minute run indoor track - too fast because my foot kills today

7/12 - 75 total  30 minutes weights - 45 minutes walking - stupid foot

7/13 - 80 minutes total - solid 60 running.  Then walked and stretched with hubby

7/14 - nada

7/15 - 60 minute walk around track with xc moms.   Needed it cause of the foot.

7/16 - 50 minute run

7/17 - 90 minutes total at the gym.  Weight class, elliptical, roll out and stretching

7/18 - 110 total - 60 minutes running - 10 minute stretch, warm up and cool down - 40 minutes push mowing the yard (hardest part of my workout!  Sheesh!)

Exciting thing about yesterday -- we do this "3-2-1" routine before the crossfit class starts -- 300 flutter kicks, 200 crunches, and 100 pushups. For beginners, it's 200-100-50. I've made a ton of progress. First I was doing modified girl pushups on my knees, then I was able to do a few unmodified pushups, then a couple months ago I was finally able to do 100 unmodified pushups, but it was really hard work and I had to do them in sets of 5. Yesterday, I started doing my pushups in sets of 50-- doing 15 without stopping, taking a five second break, doing 15 more, etc. It feels really good having tangible evidence that I'm getting so much stronger.

In other news, I stepped on the scale today (which I do like every two months), and I've officially gained like 5 pounds since I started doing crossfit six months ago, and ten pounds from when I started doing pilates a year and a half ago. I had a mini freak out, because normally when I weigh that number, I'm well on the edge of being overweight (for me) and my clothes don't fit. Historically, at this weight, I'd be a full two dress sizes bigger. However, I fit just fine into my regular clothes now, including the ones from when I was ten pounds lighter. My quads have gotten really hard and a lot larger, I have visible deltoid and tricep muscles for the first time in my life, I have like ten times more core strength than I've ever had in my life, and if I tighten my butt, I can actually feel glute muscles (under a handful of girly squishiness, which I'm fine with). My jeans are a tiny bit tight in the thighs, but that's clearly muscle -- my legs are hard even when I'm not flexing them. I'm a short, curvy Sicilian girl, and I still have a fair bit of body fat, but I think it is possible that the majority of that 10 pounds, or maybe even just about all of it, is healthy muscle. I asked my husband, and he said I look a lot healthier and I don't look like I gained weight, but I do look like I have more muscle. (And then he started groping me to prove his point. winky.gif

Anyway, have y'all experienced gaining weight from strength training?

MamaJen!!!  That is super news...What an accomplishment....100 pushups!??!?!?  Wow?!?!?

 

I have noticed that when I am lifting  - I weigh a solid 5 pounds more then when I'm not.  But my clothes still fit the same.   It's all muscle

Another thing I noticed was that when I started running outdoors and got off of the elliptical and treadmill, I lost an entire dress size.  I did not lose any weight...but I did lose a size.  And I definitely changed my shape.  I haven't ever tried crossfit but I have thought about it.    My worry is that I would end up looking too manly.  I tend to get very cut and defined.  It would probably gross my hubby out. 

 

My favorite thing about about lifting weights and running is how strong I feel.  When I feel strong physically, it makes me feel strong mentally.  Like I handle anything or do anything.....

Thanks, lab! I talked to the instructor and he was like, don't pay attention to the number on the scale, pay attention to the dress size. I've loved crossfit. I've definitely added some muscle, but I like how it looks -- it's mroe toned rather than bulky.

My job actually offers free crossfit classes every day, twice a day, and we're allowed to take 30 minutes three times a week for "wellness leave" to exercise (I take the rest out of lunch break). It's the best job perk ever.

Although the number is pretty high, I've been exhausted and not working out as intensely as usual - walking and riding the bike more than anything. I also ate too much fast food this week and I've had a hard time recovering lol. It sounds crazy and it is, but now too fatty foods make me feel sad and tired. I should know better but sometimes it's hard to say no when somebody is offering some mouth-watering food on a plate. I'm not even talking about my night out, which was awesome! We walked and danced a lot, I had the greatest time!

 

I guess I've been VERY active lately (counted 6 days off since April 1rst!) so not feeling so bad for taking some kind of break. But I need to lose that extra weight and although taking a few days off is not the end of the world, I am already gaining weight and feeling less fit! Very discouraging... But makes me want to get back on track ASAP!!

7/3 - 30 minutes total. Walking on beach and laps in pool
7/4 - 40 minutes total. 20 minutes swimming laps 20 minutes running
7/5 - nada
7/6 - driving home from vacay
7/7 - 50 minutes on the stairs at the gym
7/8 - 110 minutes   30 minutes intense weights at the gym.  Then 80 minutes running at the park with my daughter. 
7/9 - 40 minute hard run

7/10 - 25 minutes grass - push mower

7/11 - 50 minute run indoor track - too fast because my foot kills today

7/12 - 75 total  30 minutes weights - 45 minutes walking - stupid foot

7/13 - 80 minutes total - solid 60 running.  Then walked and stretched with hubby

7/14 - nada

7/15 - 60 minute walk around track with xc moms.   Needed it cause of the foot.

7/16 - 50 minute run

7/17 - 90 minutes total at the gym.  Weight class, elliptical, roll out and stretching

7/18 - 110 total - 60 minutes running - 10 minute stretch, warm up and cool down - 40 minutes push mowing the yard (hardest part of my workout!  Sheesh!)

7/19 - 70 minutes using the pushmower.  My arms are killing me from yesterday.  And it was hot.  

7/22 - 70 minutes running with my hubby in Aruba!  Walked a little since he is a little injured.

7/23 - 55 minutes in the gym at  the hotel fitness center

7/25 - 55 minutes in the gym again

I am so inspired looking towards the end of the month.  I'm planning on making separate goals for my yoga and walking.  I think the caffeine is punching through the allergies.  Feeling more motivated.
